The Ravenala Attitude is the first 4* all-suite hotel in Mauritius. It sits on the island’s north-west coast in the small village of Balaclava, tucked between the sea and river. The views are spectacular, surrounded by emerald-coloured gardens and a backdrop of soaring mountains. This hotel is big on nature, blurring indoor and outdoor spaces harmoniously with colonial architecture and exotic, tropical accents. Imagine sand floors and open-air dining among towering palms. There are 272 suites with options for couples, adults and families. In the adults-only wing, all suites overlook the Indian Ocean and have views of the sunset every evening.

We stayed at the Ravenala for 10 days and they were the most amazing and relaxing 10 days. The staff were super helpful, starting with a warm friendly check in on arrival we were greeted with a smile and all the information we needed to find our way around the hotel. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and the grounds were clean and well maintained. The staff worked tirelessly to tidy up after the small tropical storm passed by the island, the sea debris that washed up was cleaned away and the beach was fixed in no time. On the beach the boathouse staff were helpful and we had loads of fun standup paddle boarding and kayaking on the river and sea. The food at the beach BBQ for lunch was delicious, freshly cooked to order (the lamb cooked by Akash a favourite!) and drinks were always served with a smile at the O Beach bar by Avi, big thanks to him!

The food in the restaurants was delicious and having food intolerances the chefs were amazing at making amendments so I could always eat something delicious. The first night the chef in the buffet restaurant freshly made me fish and calamari kebabs as there was limited food out I could eat. It was fabulous, I’m sad I never got his name but I was very grateful.

Favourite restaurants for us included madam Mings where Sami and Rodney looked after us so well (management they deserve recognition for how well they ran the floor and the interactions with guests)
Kot Nu the food was fabulous, and the Bistrot we loved for dinner too.

The team that worked around the pool were fantastic too Venkarmah And Mozahir were delightful and always made sure we had our drinks with a smile. Pretty much most the staff we interacted with were delightful.

We’d definitely recommend going out for the day with a taxi driver at the gate. Prices ranged from 3200-3500rps for a full day out. We visited the black river gorges national park, the valley of colours (you pay entry for this but was a brilliant time on the quads!!) and the Hindu temples as well as a gorgeous Mauritian curry (paid extra) glad to have the time freedom to explore as we wanted and only us in the taxi so didn’t have to keep to a tours timetable.

Also recommend snorkelling with turtles and on the reef. We booked with vava boom trips on the beach (purple t-shirts) and had a fabulous few hours out snorkelling.

All in all this has been an amazing stay and would recommend staying here to anyone.

We have just stayed at the Ravenala Attitude for 9 nights and had the most amazing experience. We booked through lastminute.com and went for the all-inclusive, seafront suite (room 3114) this was more expensive but definitely worth the extra money to be right on the beach with idyllic sea views. We also paid extra for the private transfer to and from the airport which was approx £70 but meant arrival was hassle free.
From the moment we stepped into the Ravenala we had the most amazing experience and service from the staff. From the reception staff member Karan who arranged my partners birthday celebrations, to some of the waiting staff in particular Avinash and Rakesh who were outstanding in their care and service, nothing was too much trouble.
Our room was very large with a separate lounge area and huge bathroom with two basins, we also had a very large balcony overlooking the beach and sea. We couldn't fault anything in our room. The rooms were cleaned daily and there was an early evening turn down service if you wanted fresh towels.
There is a great choice of restaurants all al a carte menu and all beautiful. We opted to eat at Lime (had to pay extra for) Kot Nou, O and Madame Ming as these were our favourite, a mix of Asian, Japanese, Mauritian foods.
There were 3 pools to choose from as well as being on the beach, honestly, we were spoilt for choice! Wherever we chose to sit throughout the day we always had someone offering us a drink and endless lunch options. Again, our favourite was Lime which served sushi at lunchtime and if All Inclusive this was included, or O Beach restaurant which was right on the beach and did great salads.
There was also a team of entertainment and sports staff who ran the "sports village" with a gym, tennis courts, bicycle hire, volley ball, board games, table tennis. They were all so enthusiastic and inclusive to all customers. Avi was great who encouraged people to do water aerobics every morning! Not something I would normally have wanted to do but due to the endless drinking and eating it was a great way of getting some exercise for 30 minutes!
We didn't have children but could see they catered well for children and families as well as having sections that were adult only, so we certainly didn't feel like there were lots of families either, maybe this was due to being in school term time.
We left the hotel on a few occasions- swimming with turtles which is a must and was around £25, & big game fishing which was approx £230 for 2 people on a private boat.
All in all we could not fault the hotel and the staff, I can't understand why it's not 5 stars* if I'm honest, great hotel, amazing service, beautiful setting and country. We can't wait to go back there again.

We stayed at this resort from mid October for 2 weeks and had a lovely experience! And Covid safe. The hotel offers (mandatory) day 0 and day 5 lateral flow tests which gives more security. They also spray clean all the luggage and have hand gel placed everywhere.

From the moment we arrived at the hotel until the moment we left the staff was super helpfull and friendly. We had the Seafront Executive Junior Suite with Sea View and Balcony and were really pleased with it. The room is huge and had a lovely view on the beach. Good big bed, a fridge, big bathroom and cleaned every day. This type of rooms also includes private luxury bean bags on the beach that are marked per room in an adult section only. When staying for 2 weeks, this upgrade was definitely worth it.

We also chose this room package because of the included a la carte restaurants for lunch and diner. I'm not the biggest fan of a buffet in general and the possibity to go to these restaurants every afternoon and night was a perfect solution in this covid time. You need to make a reservation for these restaurants, so make sure you do this on your arrival day for at least the 3-4 upcoming days. We didn't had a problem with booking but I can imagine if it gets busier you need to be on time with your reservations.
I loved O beach for lunch (salads, paninis, pizza) and the sushi at Lime was good at lunch. For dinner our favourite was A Tavola (Italian).

We booked an excursion via TUI and we also booked an excursion via the hotel at the boathouse, both boat tours. The excursion via TUI felt like a tourist machine and we would not recommend it. It was also more expensive then the same type of excursion via the boathoase of the hotel. So if you want to book anything, book it via the boathouse. Better prices and a better experience! We also liked that you could use a lot of watersport equipment for free at the boathouse. We did some supping and sailing.

Special thanks to Bruno, Nallan and the pool boys in the tropical shirts. And compliments for Kevin from the event team for beeing enthusiastic every day. He loves his job and you got instantly happy when you were around him. They have all made our stay extra special.

My wife and I stayed here for 10 Nights in April 2019. Overall this still represents a good hotel at this price point with a good selection of restaurants. The beach is very disappointing - it is now very thin with visible sandbags and tree roots. Due to the adjacent river the sea is very cloudy. The sun loungers in the beach area are very crowded. Loungers around the pool are in quite short supply and often reserved early in the morning. Most of the restaurants and bars are in very close proximity around the main building and pool area, which lead to a feeling of everything being on top of itself. The lunchtime Beach BBQ had a poor selection. The breakfast buffet was disappointing with many items running out and not replenished quickly and the serving staff were often poor at clearing tables. A number of the photographs used by UK travel companies are quite old and show more luxurious sun loungers, widely spaced around the pool, which is quite different to the current situation. Although advertised as "suites" the rooms are simply well sized normal resort hotel rooms. We had stayed at the sister hotel Zilwa Attitude around 2 years ago; for a couple without children we would definitely recommend Zilwa over Ravenala at the same price point - it felt less crowded and more luxurious (although the rooms themselves are larger and less industrial at Ravenala).

Dear Chris, Thank you for taking the time to share the experience of your vacation at our resort. I am glad that you enjoyed your overall stay with us. However, I am sorry to read your remarks with regards to the beach and its amenities. As you have clearly mentioned, the beach meets with the mouth of a river which is next to our property. The sea water is usually a clear one but since Mother Nature can be very unpredictable and which is unfortunately beyond our control, the river sometimes has an impact on our beach. I however understand your feeling with regards to it and I sincerely regret that it was not per your expectations. I sincerely regret that our food proposal has not met your expectations. Should we have been aware of your dissatisfaction, our Chef would have been more than happy to turnaround your experience and assist you with tailor-made dishes. We hope that you will give us a second chance of welcoming you back for a better experience. Kind regards, Alessandro Schenone General Manager

Holidaying 2/3 times a year in mostly 4* accommodation we did not feel this was up to standard. The welcome on arrival was lovely with drinks and cool cloths. The rooms were of a good size but not completely clean and the bathroom needed replacing. One of our rooms had a number of leaks in the ceiling early hours one morning, a replacement was given at 7.30pm with a double bed instead of twin beds. Furnishings around the pool need replacing as some chairs were broken and materials stained, we did always manage to find beds around the pool however and didn’t have to get up to early to secure beds but the towel hut did not always open on time or always have clean towels. Cocktail menu was good but unfortunately the cocktails themselves were poor, no consistency in quality. Food quality on the whole was reasonable, we went to most restaurants but the sushi which was extra was disappointing as food was not as described on the menu and they failed to mention they didn’t have some of the vital ingredients. Dogs and cats were allowed to roam anywhere and sit on chairs in the buffet restaurant. Most of the staff did as was required to do their job but nothing more although Mozahir around the pool and Runjeet at O Restaurant were very friendly and helpful. The weekend was very rowdy with big groups of people and we were told they came as day packages which was not relaxing for those of us on holiday. Overall we did have a nice time here but would not return.

Good morning, Thank you for taking the time to share your constructive review of your vacation with us. I am glad to read that, you appreciated the welcome upon your check in, the size of the room as well as the hospitality and service of our Family Members, namely : Mozahir and Runjeet whom you recommended but regret you did not fully enjoy your stay with us I have read with great concern the shortfalls you highlighted with regards to their room and I would like to reassure you that this is not our usual level of standard. Nevertheless, I have taken your comments very seriously and have briefed my Housekeeping along with my Maintenance team accordingly to avoid such situation in the future. Thank you for your constructive comments regarding the pool furniture which require refurbishment and please rest assured that same has been shared to the team in view of improvement. I have taken good note of your remarks regarding the towels at the beach kiosk and the team has been briefed accordingly so that this situation does not happen in the future. I have taken good note of the points with regards to our culinary offer and the cocktails and rest assured Food and Beverage Manager, The Chef along with their teams have been briefed accordingly to improve on same. Concerning stray animals, we are in constant contact with the local authorities and animal welfare associations for a sterilization campaign in order to control the population of dogs in the area. Also, we have our dog lounge in the hotel where they are fed, sheltered and thereafter adopted. Unfortunately, some in-house guests are making our task more complicated by feeding these animals in the restaurants. We indeed welcome local guests during the weekend for day packages and I sincerely regret that their presence might prevented you to fully enjoying your holiday. I thank you once again to share your feedback and I hope we would be able to regain your trust. Kind regards, Alessandro Schenone General Manager

We liked 2 things: 1) cost that we paid to be in the area relative to other hotels; and 2) the size of the rooms (quite large).

We were very disappointed with everything else. To start, Preet from the reception / checkin area was extremely rude and disrespectful to us. She needs to be removed from dealing with customers directly as she has no idea how to do this. There were lots of flies everywhere - at breakfast, at the dinner, at the beach BBQ, they are all over your food. The food options were also not good. Additionally, the sheets in the room were stained and the room was 15 minute walk from the reception. There were mattresses thrown in the hallways (dirty). All in, I would not recommend or stay here again - unless you just don’t have the money to stay elsewhere.

Hello, Thank you for taking the time to share the experience following your recent stay at our resort. I am relieved that you appreciated some aspects of your stay, but I sincerely regret that you left our resort on a negative note and apologize for the inconveniences you experienced. I have read with great concern your comments about the behavior of our Family Members Rest during your arrival. Rest assured that this is not our usual standard, our Front Office team has been briefed thoroughly to avoid this situation in the future. Concerning the flies, I would like to share with you that there is an ongoing treatment being done regularly at the hotel by one of the best companies of the country. Unfortunately, being on a tropical island with high humidity, these insects tend to be tenacious and as well one week ago our island experienced a tropical storm. I understand that their presence might not have been pleasant. We are nevertheless strengthening our fight against these pests. I sincerely regret that our food proposal has not met your expectations. Should you have shared your feedback during your stay, our Chef would have been more than happy to turnaround your experience and assist you with tailor-made dishes. I take good note of your comments concerning the sheets and the mattress which I have shared with my Housekeeping team to avoid such situation in the future and enhance our guest’s satisfaction. I regret if the room allocated to you was far from the main facilities and should you decide to visit us again, I will ensure that you will be well settled in a nice room closer to our main facilities. I thank you again to share your feedback and I hope you will give us a second chance to welcome you back among us. Kind regards, Alessandro Schenone General Manager

We had a wonderful 10 day stay at this resort in December. We loved the relaxed yet stylish ambience and decor in the resort. Staff were friendly and helpful. The pools are large with plenty of sun loungers. Other facilities include tennis courts, volleyball court, gym, kayaks snorkeling trips and glass-bottomed boat. Other watersports and a spa are available at an extra cost.
We enjoyed all of the restaurants (the Italian a little less I'm afraid), our favourites being the Mauritian one and O Beach on the evening they have the special menu (every Tuesday I believe). It was my birthday and we had a table on the beach which was magical (we were also given a delicious cake and had some beautiful decorations brought to the room) . The buffet is also excellent and there's a good range of lunch options - we loved the little street food trucks. Drinks were also of excellent quality - the vanilla rum iced tea became a firm favourite.
Our 4 year old daughter spent a lot of time in the kids club, which she loved despite sometimes being the only child (there were never more than 5 or 6). A big shout out to Celine and her crew who really looked after our little girl and kept her entertained with lots of fun games and activities. She also celebrated her birthday during our stay, and they threw her a lovely little party.
The only real criticism I have of the resort is that unfortunately the beach isn't the nicest, as the sea is full of seaweed. I know this can't be helped and perhaps it is reflected in the price (we certainly paid a very reasonable amount for a hotel in this class). There are beautiful beaches just a 15 minute drive away and a taxi from the rank just outside the resort is not costly.
There are a couple of other small areas for improvement. Firstly, the beach towel stand isn't always manned and on a few occasions I wasted quite a while waiting for someone to collect in or give out towels. Secondly, on our return we had an early morning pickup, for which the porter turned up much earlier than agreed and was visibly annoyed that we weren't ready. Once at reception the take away breakfast we had been promised wasn't ready (but they managed to throw something together before we left).
Nonetheless, I want to stress these are minor things that didn't detract from our overall enjoyment of the holiday. I'd like to say a big thank you to all of the staff on behalf of all my family. I would highly recommend this resort.

Arrived at this hotel on Tuesday 17/03/20 and noticed a minor change to the eating establishments we booked into Madame minge Thai restaurant and must say from first walking in we we’re greeted by friendly and smartly dressed staff who poilety escorted to our table. Upon persusing the menu the options were varied and appealing.out starters arrived and were hot and tasty especially the Thai soup. I chose Thai red beef curry and have to say this was one of the best I’ve tasted in a long while all my other diners were also the same opinion with the options they had chosen.this an excellent dining pleasure the staff are friendly and helpful the food of high quality I cannot recommended this restaurant highly enough and I’m sure if like me you pay them a visit you will come away highly satisfied . Thanks to all staff for making this a pleasant dining experience

We stayed here in March 2020 luckily just a couple of weeks prior to most of the world entering lockdown.

Visited Mauritius to celebrate landmark birthdays and had a great time, hotel has numerous restaurants all of which we found to be good. Our favourites however were Kot Nou and Madame Ming. Booking is advisable as soon as you arrive for all restaurants, we had no real issues and ate in all of the restaurants available although I would say the hotel was nowhere near full during our stay.

The hotel is in a lovely setting with a river running along one side of the grounds, rooms are set out in blocks with plenty of space. Pools are large and there are plenty of sun-bed options, pool, terraces, beach. There is quite a lot of shade due to the trees so for sun worshipers some moving around can be required depending on where you are.

Service across the whole complex is excellent, from reception to the bars and restaurants, to the beach water sports and housekeeping.

We hired a driver and did a tour to the Les Mores Nature Reserve, Black River Gorges and Chamarel. Around eight stops with late lunch and rum tasting at Chamarel, highly recommended - a great way to see a lot of the island.

Slight negatives are the rooms are a little tired, although AC was excellent and bed really comfortable. As some have mentioned the sea can get a bit cloudy after rain (and boy can it rain!) but we didn’t find this to be an issue in the scheme of things.

Special mention for Akash in Kot Nou, Chef Major, Veekesh on the main bar and the guys on the beach bar whose names we forgot (sorry guys). Also Nallan from O Beach restaurant who was so helpful when my wife wasn’t feeling too good one evening, top man cheers!

All in all we would recommend Ravenala Attitude and Mauritius.

Great hotel and great staff the service they provided was excellent.

Food at the Restaurant’s were fantastic, would highly recommend the Italian and Chinese, also the beach bbq restaurant was something a little different where they present your food with a Miniature bbq and you cook your food to your acquired taste which works really well.

The pool was very clean and a nice temperature to,not too busy either which made it more relaxing, the waiters were brilliant with the drinks very attentive never felt like you had to wait for a drink or felt the need to go and get one from the bar the same for the beach waiters as-well also very good.

The water sports was also very good as we were all inclusive the water sports were included in the price which varied from kayaks to snorkelling trips and so on, the guys there were very polite and nothing was too much trouble.

Tip
we upgraded to a sea view room which included a balcony overlooking the sea and your own private beach area with your own beanbag sun beds allocated to your room.
