Detailed Reviews
As a Hilton Diamond member, I stay exclusively at Hilton portfolio properties when I travel frequently by train. On a recent solo visit to Poughkeepsie in late July, mainly to visit the Walkway Over The Hudson, I was happy to hear that the Poughkeepsie Grand had supposedly converted to a Doubletree and thus would be very convenient for me needs.
I found out upon arrival that the hotel slapped a temporary Doubletree banner across the top of the building, and that whatever interior and exterior construction needed for this conversion was very much still in progress. I did not find the lobby to be inviting, although the staff was to their credit very friendly and knowledgeable. The place appeared to be in a state of flux, with facilities closed to the public. Outside, there was construction equipment blocking the sidewalk adjacent to the building, with nothing stopping people from walking right into it. Had to walk in the street to get around it!!
The room was OK, although an upgrade to Hilton standards would be welcomed. My view, which was to the east, looked down on a curbside and off-street bus transfer station.
My room had ample space for my belongings, and the bathroom had enough counterspace to put my toiletries. Still, one could tell that the infrastructure was very old.
Other than all that, I did get a decent night of sleep, and the location being walking distance from both the train and the Walkway was a plus.

We stayed for 3 nights at this hotel because we were in Poughkeepsie for a wedding. Check-in was very quick and efficient. We had a 1 bedroom suite which was very nice. We had dinner one night in the hotel restaurant. The food was okay. The service was good but they do not accept cash for payment. You can only sign your meal to your room or pay with credit card. The lobby is still under renovation but it doesn’t have much to do with hotel experience.

Oh Hilton what did you do? This hotel is not ready for prime time. From the awkward juxtaposition to the street, to the creepy, leaky parking lot and the shabby lobby, you have no business accepting guests! The lobby is shabby and disappointing given the beautiful picture on the website. The parking lot had no signage, all of the spots advantageous to moving baggage were taken by people attending a hockey game at the convention center. Have to use double elevators one in garage the other in hotel. Not easy for someone with bags to navigate. Big fail. I would not feel safe returning to this hotel by myself at night, having to park my car in an unattended garage. So I cut my stay short and moved to another Hilton property in Poughkeepsie. Maybe you could have an exclusive entrance on the roof of the garage to make it easier to check in and out of the hotel? But the current set up is a nonstarter.

I was in town for my friends' wedding and they recommended their guests stay at the Doubletree Poughkeepsie property. We were given a promo code for the wedding to receive a discount for a night. When I first arrived, my room reeked of cigarette smoke (in a non-smoking room). I spoke to the front desk and told them this, and they offered to switch my room. I had already unpacked, and was very busy with events for the wedding (I was part of the bridesmaids group), so I did not have time to repack and switch rooms. The night I arrived back from the wedding, I sat on the armchair in my room while I took a phonecall. When I got up from the chair, I had large red stains all over my arms. This definitely was not on my arms when I left the wedding (I have many photos of me at the wedding), and when I looked back at the chair, I noticed the fabric was soaked with some kind of red substance (the fabric was dark so this was not visible on first glance when I initially sat down). I called the front desk again, and told them about what had happened with the chair, again reminding them of the strong smokey odour in the room. Again, they offered me to switch rooms. As the wedding had now finished and I was exhausted, just wanting to sleep, I told them I would stay in the room for the night, but I did not want to stay at the property for longer than I needed to (I originally planned to stay at the hotel for one more night after the wedding festivities ended). I asked them if I could check out early instead of switching rooms, and receive a refund for just that last night, but they stated that this was not possible since I had prepaid for my reservation. They instead offered to give me 50,000 Hilton Honours points as compensation for my troubles. I accepted this offer, and they indicated that the points would show up in my account after a couple weeks. I kept my eye on this and noticed I never received the 50,000 points I was promised. When I contacted Hilton Honours about this entire incident, they said they had no information from the hotel about this, so they would ask someone from the hotel front desk to contact me regarding the missing points. That was over two months ago now and I am still waiting to be contacted and compensated with the 50,000 points (or a much due refund). The fact that I have had to continue following up with both the hotel and Hilton Honours for months after the stay, just to resolve multiple issues on their part, has made my experience even more awful. I recommend to avoid this hotel at all costs.

Bringing on the New! Doubletree by Hilton in Poughkeepsie is really stepping up the game. Have been staying here for business over the last several months. Each visit shows new energy and great work on updating the rooms and common areas. Despite these ongoing upgrades the staff is Outstanding in service. Every Single Staff Person has thrown in and made everyone feel welcome. Requests? They are diligent in getting things done! Highest marks for this team.

Friends room infested with bed bugs. Food average cold cuts for luncheon and pastries served on breakfast buffet at meeting pre arranged.
Unacceptable that the bed bugs were not identified when housekeepers set up the room. There were many bugs in both queen sized beds

The room (by New York standards) is enormous! It is well appointed, with a large, comfortable bed, plenty of storage space, and a well-appointed bathroom. The decor is in great shape, and everything is clean (and stays that way).
Downstairs, in the lobby/bar/breakfast room, renovations are in progress, with much enthusiastic banging (but only during working hours). Everything carries on around the building work, so there is no real inconvenience.
If you are travelling by public transport, the hotel is 10-15 minutes walk from the rail station. On the other hand, it is right opposite the central hub for the local buses. This suited us, as we were using Poughkeepsie as a base for nearby places of interest. You are right in the middle of Poughkeepsie, so there are plenty of bars and restaurants around.
Two things. The hotel was very quiet when we were there, so we have no idea what it's like when it is full. Also, we were on the seventh floor, so any street noise would have passed us by.

Stayed at the newly partially renovated Double Tree in downtown Poughkeepsie for my daughter’s wedding weekend. Peter, and the rest of the staff bent over backwards to make our weekend more memorable. There were beautifully renovated rooms, with a shower that had great water pressure. My daughter stayed in a suite where members of the wedding party were able to congregate comfortably. We also had a private breakfast for our out of town guests in one of the newly redesigned conference rooms. The food was delicious, presentation was beautiful and the staff was amazing. Can’t wait for the construction to be completed. Plan to go back for a weekend away!

This is a very old hotel that is being rebranded. It was the Grand Hotel before Hilton took over. The front desk staff is great. The rooms are good but not great. In the summer you can't heat your room (they turn off the heat for the summer). One thing: if you get a high room ask for an odd numbered one. You will get a good view of the river and the bridge.

Arrived late at night after a very delayed train journey, and were provided with snacks and a warm welcome. Eldest child was poorly, and as
Illness got worse, we went to see reception and the gentleman was very helpful in an emergency, and made the stay much less stressful and more enjoyable. apologies for not remembering your name, but thank you so much.
