Detailed Reviews
Hotel's Favourite
We stayed as a family of four visiting Marist for a college tour. Room offered two queen beds for us and a reasonable price for the convenience and area. The hotel lobby/bar area was fresh and modern, and the female bartender was friendly as we sat and played cards as a family. Rooms were clean (not modern though) and relatively quiet. We would stay again if visiting Marist!
A couple of things to note:
Guests were definitely not observing the no smoking policy as you could smell pot in the hall as you walked by some rooms, but it did not permeate our room at all. Breakfast was included for us as IHG REWARDS but I would not have paid otherwise. Plenty of other quick breakfast spots in the area.

We stayed 2 nights in a lovely room with a beautiful view of the creek and woods behind the building (Room 267). The king bed and other furniture were very comfortable, and the entire room was clean and well-equipped. Having our dinner and drinks at the bar was a great decision. The chef came out to make sure we were happy with my salmon dinner and my husband's burger. The bartender recommended a good local beer for my husband and a local white wine for me. He also made a delicious chocolate martini!. He talked to us about the area and recommended places to see and to dine. Our breakfast server, Linda, greeted us warmly each morning, kept the food area spotless, and prepared eggs and pancakes to our liking. She also recommended sightseeing spots, shopping areas, and restaurants. The front desk staff was welcoming and helpful. We could not have asked for anything more. Definitely recommend this place.

Fantastic hotel with very reasonable rates. I was able to pay for an option to have breakfast included for only an extra $3.50 per person. The woman who made our breakfast each morning (Linda) was very personable and made our stay that much better. Thank you!

The reviews of this hotel are overrated. It’s not a new hotel, it’s just new to HI. The rooms are new, however the 2 queen bed rooms are fairly tight. There is no place to sit, except a chair jammed into the space between the wall and the bed. They do have a good refrigerator with freezer and micro wave. The beds are comfortable and the TV is ok, but it does pixilate on some channels. The worst part of the room is the bathroom. Tiny counter area and a tub. When I travel I wipe down the room with wipes and spray disinfectant. We had cleaned everything in the first room, when we noticed a make up container and popcorn on the carpet. Lost confidence that they had spent much time cleaning the room. The front desk lady immediately came up with keys for another room. I asked for disinfectant, as I used mine up, and they didn’t have any available. Don’t bother booking with the breakfast rate, your better off with the IHOP down the street. Every person I was in contact with at the hotel, worked very hard and these issues are not related to them. The one exception might be some house keepers. They say on the description of the hotel that they have a beautiful outdoor pool. That is wrong. It hasn’t been used since 1967. They do have a disclaimer, which I didn’t notice, that the pool is closed for the season. What is true, they are in a good location.

My organization had an event scheduled last week (June 26th) at the Holiday Inn Poughkeepsie. Over six months ago we got a block of over 15 rooms. A month before we were told that they could no longer accomodate the rooms due to a maintenance issue, and were putting us into a different hotel, but our meeting room was still fine. After several hotels, they put our group into the worst hotel in the area. Everyone said it was a horrible place. I was also assured that the meeting room at the Holiday Inn Poughkeepsie had excellent hi-speed internet, as we were streaming to thousands across the globe. It turns out they did not, and our internet connection kept buffering for a signal. As my IT crew was setting up that morning for the meeting, we asked the front desk person where the elevator was - she didn’t know (this was par for the course as our members told me that as they would call the hotel for information the front desk was either extremely rude or just not knowledgeable about the hotel. And to top it off, we were double-billed for the meeting room. I contacted the manager almost every day who said the charge would be removed, but it never was. I finally had to call our credit card company to have the charges reversed. As such, we will be contacting all our members of our organization to never deal with the Holiday Inn brand in the future.

Nice new hotel.
Few small problems.
1) safe locked so we could not use it, disappointment. Safes are crucial for security in a hotel room. Had to carry my laptop around rather than leave in room.
2) Bathroom door squeaked loudly. Didn't the housekeeper hear it when she cleaned? Just needed a bit of oil but very annoying particularly during the night.
3) most importantly: had Diamond complimentary breakfast. Specifically asked the waitress if cook uses REAL cracked eggs because we are sensitive to the powdered stuff. She said yes. We both ordered scrambled and they were NOT real eggs. My mother and I both felt sick all day--my mother finally threw it up. I suggest ordering sunny side up or type of egg where they must use cracked eggs and can't substitute the powdered.
ALSO should offer chamomile tea for breakfast. many people can't drink caffeine.
4) Elevator: floor numbers dont correspond with the room numbers (311 on floor 2). Should be an easy fix. Not sure why they haven't done so.
Very nice front desk staff. Not sure if I would return because of the egg dishonesty.

Clean and updated rooms - friendly staff and easy check in/out. We enjoyed that the hotel has a bar onsite. Opted for the breakfast which was a bit disorganized and very basic but it was easier than having to leave to find a place to eat. Didn’t use the gym or pool so I can’t review those areas. Beds were very comfy and water pressure in shower was great as was the ample supply of hot water. Bathroom supplies (soap, shampoo, etc) was limited but sufficient.

For $300 per night you can enjoy a dirty, dingy and very old room. Your room will come with peeling paint, a rusty shower and VERY noisy events. When you've woken up from your 4 hours of sleep due to aforementioned noise and a horrible bed, you wish you stayed home. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Hyatt Place. It cheaper and brand new. Unfortunately it was booked for the weekend as was every other hotel in the area. The fact that this place had rooms available speaks for itself. $300 per night folks!

Jill D, Thank you for sharing your experience, and we are very sorry for the inconveniences that you encountered during your stay. Your very detailed negative review of our facilities and cleanliness is rough to hear because our goal and our efforts are directed to bring the opposite results from what you describe. The description of your stay is highly unusual and does not represent the level of high standards we all aim to achieve. We do hope you allow us another opportunity on a future stay to show you, how we used your overall comments to improve.

My family and I stayed one night this past weekend. There are some definite areas in need of improvement at this location.
To be fair, I'll start with the good. Check-in was easy and the front desk was friendly and helpful. The two queen sized beds were comfortable. The bathroom was stocked with Dove products like shampoo, conditioner, body wash, lotion, and hand soap. The staff brought us extra towels (we had 2 in the room for a reservation for 4 people) and a blanket for the sofa bed.
On the down side, the hallways smelled like a whole lot of bleach was used to clean something up, but never really got rid of the old odor. Our "suite" was a main room with two queen beds and smaller room with a pull out couch and a desk. That room had an overhead light but no desk lamp. The mattress was awful and I feel guilty as a parent that my son slept on it. The AC/heating unit had a leak, so the carpet under it was completely soaked. In the bathroom, the shower curtain rod was coming loose from the wall so the curtain did not stay in place. This caused a bit of flood on the floor.
Our room rate came with breakfast. It was not up to the level of free breakfasts I've gotten at Hampton Inn or Homewood Suites (no waffle maker!). I would not have paid the $12.99 posted for it. There was also an outdoor seating area that looked lovely on the website (not to mention a pool table that I couldn't find), but in reality was a few chairs behind the hotel next to a creek. The walk to the fitness center was confusing and a little creepy (I would avoid 100-level rooms).
I'm sure someone will say that I should have brought these things to the attention of the staff, but on a one night stay it was not practical. There are many other hotels within a few miles of this one. They looked newer on the outside and I would choose any of them over this location in the future.

Travelling with young kids during the COVID concerns is challenging, but things at the Holiday Inn Poughkeepsie made our travels as easy as possible.
Linda at breakfast did an amazing job balancing the health and safety of food service and being so friendly to us and our kids. Also, Linda makes an excellent breakfast sandwich. Sanshine was very helpful for the booking to ensure it was within the hotel block which changed between hotels, and it was a pleasure to check in with her when we arrived. She ensured we could be next door to my parents who booked on another reservation.
