While many guests have commended the Hampton Inn & Suites Poughkeepsie for its spotless premises and homely atmosphere, some have called out the establishment for its less-than-satisfactory value, pointing to steep prices and unmet expectations. Although the hotel's location draws mixed reviews, fluctuating between praise for its tranquility and criticism for noise, the accommodations often impress with their spaciousness and cleanliness. The service quality varies, with reports of both commendable and subpar interactions. Amenities like warm cookies receive accolades, yet issues with Wi-Fi and water temperature occasionally mar the experience.

We have family in the area from Hyde Park down to Fishkill, and the location of this hotel is right in the middle, making it easy for us to visit them. The property was clean and easy to access. The lady checking us in was very friendly and pleasant, making check-in a breeze. Our room was clean and spacious. The complimentary breakfast was good, offering the standard Hampton Inn choices. Every time we went the front desk when we either left the hotel to start our day's adventures or returned, we were always greeted by the front desk staff with a "have a great day" or a "welcome back". We will definitely book this location again next time we visit family. Plenty of restaurants, shopping, and local attractions are nearby. The Metro-North Train station is close by in Poughkeepsie for day trips to NYC.

I was torn between rating this hotel stay a 2 or a 3.

I opted for a 3, only because I know from experience that they don't price gouge when other local hotels do (for example  during blizzards and power outages). It gets a star for sentimentality.

The good: the staff was polite and the hotel seemed clean.

The bad: The beds were TERRIBLE. We stayed in one of the suites (two queens and a sofa bed) and every single sleeping surface was basically unusable. They sagged terribly and were plagued with popped coils. It was the same room we stayed in several years ago (I gave it 5 stars then) and I'd bet they haven't switched the mattresses once. I've gotten better nights rests camping on rocky ground. Literally only one person managed any sleep at all.

I needed a last minute place to stay in Poughkeepsie with my daughter after an event ran unexpectedly long and I didn't want to drive home late at night in bad weather. ( had spent the previous night at another chain hotel about a mile away, but checked out as I had planned to go home.)

Free breakfast was good, and the common areas I saw were well kept. The room was showing its age a bit. For a nit pick, much older TV set up than we had in the other hotel.

The bathroom (shower only room) was run down. There were a couple of broken tiles on the floor, the sliding shower door was loose and the drain cover was loose.

It was pretty quiet and empty on a Saturday night in the winter (in the midst of COVID and bad weather), but there were a LOT of signs posted about not partying, smoking pot or vaping in the rooms -- not sure if that's been an issue here in the past and that's why the room was a little worn out.

The beds were clean and comfortable and met our needs to crash for one night, but given the variety of other hotels in the area, I'd probably not return to this one.

We have stayed here many times. This trips ends that. Pool area dirty and hottub out of service and dirty. Public restroom on 1st floor trashed and unusable. Breakfast not worth stopping for - cold cereal, yogurt, toast, packaged pastry and waffles made by guests in a pandemic surge! Poor service: manager blamed kids for restroom filth and pool area. Breakfast attendant had DOG with her in food area and couldn't be bothered to find a drink carrier. No cups in room bathroom to rinse mouth after brushing and kitchen area in suite had nothing but 2 foamie cups for coffee maker. Room furniture half broken and very worn [was told "we are updating rooms" HA!] On top of all, fire alarm goes off at 2am first night [smoke in 4th floor room] and 11 pm and 1am the second night!!! 1 desk clerk on duty to handle all this. A horrible experience all around. If you're accepting guests, you better be staffed to handle things.

We like staying at Hampton Inns when we travel, but this one was a big disappointment. For starters, there was no clean stay sticker on the room door. I brought my own Lysol wipes and disinfected everything myself. The furniture and rug were in desperate need of an update, and there was a rip on one of the chairs. There was a coffee maker, but no cups or coffee or tea. I contacted the front desk twice to ask for more towels, but we never got them. We would never stay here again.

Friends, this "meh" review rests on one element of a hotel stay that would have been quite nice had it not been for the 2nd floor hallway rugs. Some might be say, "Wow, she must be fussy to give a thumbs down because of a rug." If someone had been able to wave a wand and keep only the areas of this rug which were NOT stained, there would be precious little left. It's hard to imagine how this rug got so stained. It looks as if guests had splashed, dripped, spilled and sprayed their way down this hallway. I'm not kidding. It was bad. I'm reporting this in the hope management will see this and take a fresh look at this aspect of their hotel. It's hard to go into a room, especially in the time of COVID, and have confidence in cleanliness after walking down that disaster of a rug. That's it. Bed was comfortable, shower was great, room size was acceptable. CLEAN THE RUGS!!!

This was our third night of a 10-day vacation to New England—all bookings at Hamptons. In short, this hotel needs attention as it is not up to Hilton/Hampton standards. Issues are: room decor sparse and sub par (no seating other than one desk chair, refrigerator sits alone in floor, no cabinetry other than tv stand, etc), bath issues ( slow running hot water, slow drains in lavatory, toilet loose from floor, mold in corners). Bed not comfortable with tiny cheap pillows. Breakfast was barely adequate and mostly cold. Coffee was out when we arrived for breakfast and took 15 mins to refill. Tables were cleaned by patrons and not staff. Hotel sits along busy highway and rooms on front are noisy from loud passing traffic all night. Poor HVAC operation. I could go on with other small issues that need attention. To add insult to injury, room cost was one of the highest we experienced for the trip. Desk Staff was friendly and helpful, but that’s the high point.

Two night stay = THREE false alarms. Hilton Honors = NO recognition if you use digital check in and key. Breakfast buffet = no masks, no distancing so trust all the transient strangers grabbing food right next to you.

Never again.

Upon arrival we quickly did a digital checkin so we could tidy up and arrive on time for our dinner reservation. I noted the room seemed dark and there is no fan in the bathroom. It stormed while we were at dinner. When we returned to the hotel it was very dark. The front desk attendant was leaning on the counter completely disengaged and not informing us of an outage. My daughter noticed several people sitting in the lobby area and inquired…where are the stairs? A power outage left us in the dark with no hvac and a dripping noise-we used earplugs. We laughed it off and used our flashlights on our phones to prepare for bed. We were ecstatic to be in New York and had preplanned activities, including breakfast so we did not take advantage of the complementary breakfast, also we did not request housekeeping. However, while the first housekeeper was very professional and quick to respond to my request to only empty the trash and replenish our towels, the second maid was, rude. I work for corporate Guest Assistance for Hilton Hotels and I am familiar with every reason why a guest would ask for the 100% percent satisfaction guarantee. I happen to know that there is a supply chain issue and many other reasons why hotels are not replenishing towels in a timely manner. But….There’s no place for rudeness! Stiff, dingy bath towels, and no face or hand towels is not fun. And if all you have is bath towels kindly apologize and replenish with an adequate number of towels for your guests. My daughter asked if this would have been an issue were I not a team member…it would not, but I definitely would have made a complaint. I always leave a solid tip even though I do not require the full services of housekeeping. The brand provides amenities we opted not to use which puts everything else in a spotlight. It’s very pretty there and we will visit again. By the way, the service from the front desk was also meh…

Response from Guest Experience Team, Owner at Hampton Inn & Suites Poughkeepsie
Responded 24 Jul 2024
Hi Veronica, At the outset, please accept our sincerest apologies for the issues you encountered during your recent stay. Providing outstanding service and maintaining a high standard of courtesy and professionalism in all our guest interactions are of utmost importance to us, and we are deeply sorry that your experience with us was less than ideal. We hold ourselves to a much higher caliber of service, so we will be sure to address this with the concerned housekeeper and our front desk team to ensure better service in the future. While the power outage was out of our control, we regret the inconvenience caused and the lack of information from our front desk team regarding the situation. Your feedback highlights areas for improvement in our communication, and we will review this experience with our team and take the necessary steps to ensure better communication in the future. Unfortunately, as you rightly pointed out, supply chain issues are impacting our ability to procure and stock up on towels. We will, however, share your feedback with our laundry and housekeeping teams so they can adopt new strategies to provide fresh towels in a timely manner. Your comments about the room's lighting and lack of a bathroom fan have also been noted and will be put to good use for the betterment of the guest experience. Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback regarding your recent stay with us. We genuinely value your insights and are committed to improving our services for all guests. We understand and are disappointed we failed to meet your expectations on this visit. However, we know we can do better, and it would be an honor to have another chance to win back your trust by hosting you and your loved ones with our signature hospitality. Should you wish to discuss your experience further, kindly contact us at https://help.hilton.com/s/contactsupport so we can follow up with you directly. Thanks again. Best, Christopher, GM

Thank you for your inquiry. Unfortunately we do not have a guest shuttle at the hotel. My best suggestion would either be a taxi (there are taxis that wait in queue outside the main entrance of the train station for arriving train passengers) or Uber/Lyft.
