Metsi Lodge is a luxurious, fully serviced, safari escape, perfect for those seeking an intimate Big 5 bush experience with family and friends. The lodge is rented on an exclusive basis, and includes 2 safaris per day in your private game-viewing vehicle, guided by our private ranger. The lodge can be rented on a self catering basis ( our guests bring their own food and drinks, but a chef is on site to prepare our guests' meals), or on a full board basis (inclusive of 3 meals per day, and soft drinks during meals and game drives). We pride ourselves in being one of the only truly eco-friendly lodges in Welgevonden Game Reserve. Our energy is sourced exclusively from renewable solar power, ensuring that our carbon footprint on the environment is minimal. Starting with our eco-friendly sewage system, to the use of "green" products exclusively, sourcing of our crystal clear water from our own borehole, and use of eco-friendly materials, everything is done to ensure that Metsi Safari Eco-Lodge blends in with its natural surroundings, and that we have as little impact on our environment as possible.

We stayed in Welgevonden Game Reserve numerous times, but this was our first time at Metsi Lodge. It was from far the best lodge we ever stayed at in Welgevonden.

What we enjoyed most:

1. the exclusivity of having the lodge to ourselves, which allowed us to have our young children with us on the drives and organize our drives and meals as we wished.

2. The awesome view on the plain and the lodge’s private waterhole: during our stay we saw a herd of elephants, impalas, zebras, girafes, cheetahs and even a hippo whilst we were enjoying drinks on the deck. Spending time on the deck in front of the rooms or the main lodge is a game drive in itself!

3. The Metsi team: Hendric, our guide, was fabulous. He’s extremely friendly and knowledgeable, and is well versed in communicating with the surrounding wildlife. We all loved him, specifically our kids!
Isaac, the chef, prepared incredible meals for us. His French onion tart, tiramisu, carrot cake and delicious game drive muffins are not to be missed!
Nothing was too much trouble for Minkie and Thabo who looked after our rooms and served our meals. Everything was spotless clean, our wishes were their command!

4. The atmosphere of the lodge: cozy, well decorated, welcoming, extremely comfortable. A true homely Bush feel.

Altogether, our stay at Metsi Lodge was incredible! We felt very welcome and at home from the first minute of our arrival to the last of our departure. Leaving at the end of the weekend was heart breaking....We wish we had known about the lodge sooner! We will definitely be back and pass the word around!

Thank you Metsi team for an awesome weekend and for sharing your Bush jewel with us!

This was our second visit to the lodge and it was as excellent as the first.. Metsi is a delight from start to finish with comfortable accommodation, good food and great game viewing. You have the liberty to set your own programme including whole day drives with a picnic lunch. Already from the deck of the lodge you can regularly observe a pod of hippos in the nearby waterhole or admire elephant, hyenas and various antelope species on the open ground. For the avid birdwatcher there are numerous species to be observed and the lodge can provide bird books and binoculars for everyone.

Metsi Safari Lodge has found the perfect balance between luxurious getaway and friendly environment. The lodge is beautiful, decorated with great taste and attention to detail, and all open on nature. Perfect for a group of friends and families.
Service is 5 star, food is great (home made breads are delicious !) and hole staff is as profesionnal as friendly. The reserve around spoiled us with wild animals: we shared the road with an elephant bull, we witnessed a lion in love, we admired a single mum cheetah taking care of three babies and sipped our morning tea with 20 rhinos grazing on the background. Lots of emotions !

We are lucky enough to live in Gaborone (Botswana), just a 4 hour drive from the lodge, and will surely be back. Metsi also propose a kind of "self-catering de luxe": you bring your own grocery and Chef Isaac cooks for you. Clever concept!

The lodge is superb, the place is superb, staff is really great. Everything is peacefull and relaxing. Animals don't use make-up but remain various and beautifull. Thanks for this out of time experience.

Upon our pick-up from the gates of the Welgevonden Game Reserve and the subsequent drive to the lodge we were treated to giraffes, zebras, and a family of elephants, a start that epitomised the rest of the week. Under the care and tutelage of Stuart and Tammy along with Vincent and Queen we had a truly unforgettable week. The food prepared by Maria, three times a day, was as good as anything found in the worlds leading restaurants; the picnics on safari including freshly baked breads and cakes were sumptuous. Stuart and family by the end of the week were friends after teaching us so much about the animals and the reserve as well as welcoming us into their family. Stuart gave us everything we could possibly ask for in safari; the big five and more, lions and elephants touching distance from the vehicle with absolute security.

Metsi lodge itself is out of this world; all views looking out on to the watering hole where elephants, rhino's, warthogs and hippo's graze and hydrate as you swim read or enjoy one of Maria's feasts. Inside the decor is perfectly fitting to the lodge; a central pool table sets the scene, among tribal furnishings that look custom made for the design of the lodge. All bedrooms and bathrooms have every single thing catered for, with a regular supply of homemade cookies and chocolates embellishing further making sure you don't come home lighter than before!. Having the choice of an indoor shower or out every morning (or bath) provided each days biggest problem!

I could say more but it would spoil it for the next guests; a truly unforgettable experience and an insight to the jet set lifestyle. I hope we are back sooner rather than later!!

The dream starts as soon as Stuart the Ranger collects you at the gate of Welgevonden Reserve and drives you to the Lodge. It's your first game drive and you quickly realise Stuart knows EVERYTHING about the Bush. As you arrive at Metsi you are impressed by the Lodge, built in the shape of a Zulu shield, and then you walk in and find the magnificent deck with its view 80 meters to a small lake where Lola the hippo lives, elephants come to swim, Rhinos to graze, baboons to frolic, Giraffes to drink, and processions of Wildebeest, Waterbuck, Wart Hog, Impala, Zebra......

The rooms are very spacious with superb bathrooms with bath and shower, plus my favourite, outside showers where you shower watching the animals or the stars.

Maria the Chef produces 5 star meals, including for the Game Drive picnics.

The Reserve is hilly and wooded with two rivers, streams and occasional plains making for great views from the open Toyota 4X4. Apart from the Big Five, the Reserve is full of other animal species and abundant bird life. All of which Stuart points out and explains.

The great thing about Metsi is that, unlike a commercial Lodge, you do what you want when you want: you don't have to get up at 5.00 for a game drive. You start at 10 of you feel like it, picnic out, or come home for lunch.

Metsi is fantastic. So far I've visited 20 times and am looking forward to many many more visits.
Nicholas

Where can I begiin!! My family (party of 6) spent 3 wonderful nights at Metsi lodge from 8th to 11th January. Our experience was exceptional from arrival until we left!! .
The lodge is furnished to a very high standard and has the most spectacular views . It has a watering hole that attracts many of the animals from the reserve and we were lucky to see so many as we sat on the outside terrace having breakfast . The swimming pool was lovely and the terrace was a great place to relax after our morning safari .
We did two safaris each day , early morning and late afternoon which were truly amazing!
Stuart, our guide and manager of the lodge was exceptional! He was very experienced and had an abundant wealth of knowledge about everything in the reseve . His passion was second to none and nothing was too much trouble from him . The safari trips with him were fantastic, he pointed our animals and insects , birds of prey that we would probably never have noticed and was able to give us all the interesting facts about them . We were able to park beside and watch the most incredible sightings of lions, elephants and cheetahs ! The highlight of our last safari was watching a female lioness stalk a zebra and although we didn’t witness a kill Stuart was able to take us within a few feet of her and we got some amazing pictures!
Now on to lodge staff . All of them were truly amazing and super friendly . Nothing was too much trouble and Maria the cook produced some of the best food we had on our whole trip! No tow dishes were the same and everything made from scratch was simply exquisite!
We will remember our trip to Metsi lodge for a very long time and will definitely return . Thanks again to Stuart our lovely guide and his wonderful team

Our family of four stayed at Metsi Lodge for three nights. Everything about our Metsi experience was first rate. Stuart made transfer arrangements to and from the Johannesburg airport. Upon arrival at the Welgevonden Game Reserve, Stuart met us at the gate and transported us to the Lodge. His open air modified Land Cruiser was our transportation in the Reserve for the next three days. We did two game drives a day, early to mid-morning and mid-afternoon until dusk, all to increase our opportunity to see predators that sleep during the day. The Game Reserve is teeming with animals and we saw everything we hoped to see. During game drives Stuart kept in contact with drivers from other lodges, helping to identify lions, cheetah, elephants and other less populous animals. The Lodge is spacious and well appointed. It is next to a watering hole that attracts animals, including a hippo that we saw a number of times mostly submerged. Maria is a tremendous cook, accommodated our preferences, and the meals were high end restaurant quality. Apart from breakfast, no two meals were the same. And there is satellite internet in the lodge for those who need to connect. We can't say enough about our time at Metsi.

We spent a week at Metsi and from the moment we arrived we had a phenomenal trip. Driving through the Safari parkland we saw 3 of the big 5 before we even got there and were treated to lunch on arrival in front of Hippos and Rhino. The lodge is right in front of a dam and therefore there is wildlife all around. I will never forget the early morning outdoor showers whilst watching Giraffe nibbling at the trees 100 metres away.
Stuart and his family look after your every need and are really informed out on Drive, showing you the best that South Africa has to offer.
An amazing time at an amazing place!!
