My husband and I enjoyed a fabulous weekend at Nungubane. From the moment we were greeted at the gate, they were true to their 'home from home' philosophy. The small staff are friendly and attentive. I loved the game drives, the food, the room, the views. They even put on a surprise romantic dinner for us which was really special. We loved the idea of eating with the other guests, and if that's not your thing you're welcome to ask for your own space. Thank you Chris and the team for an unforgettable experience!

Chris, Annouchka and lodge staff proved attentive and competent hosts. Meals and game viewing happened like clockwork. Welgevonden Game Reserve is perhaps a lessor known gem, but we'll worth a visit. We were fortunate to see the big five on our Sunday morning game drive, which was very special. Overall a memorable stay and sure to return.

I have recently returned from a week at Nungabane Game Lodge spent with friends from France.
I cannot imagine that our week could be bettered. Great comfort in the middle of nowhere. The lodge staff and guides are charming, helpful and highly competent. The cuisine was excellent with a choice of enticing main courses every day.
The wildlife we saw was breathtaking. We had the extraordinary experience of being surrounded by a herd of 30 or more elephants twice, once in daylight and the other after dark. Thanks to our guide what could have been a frightening experience was not.
My main interest is in the birdlife and I was very spoilt. We spotted over 70 different species ranging from three varieties of both bee eaters and kingfishers to various raptors including a very fine spotted eagle owl sitting on a branch in the failing evening light.
I hope Nungabane Game Lodge continues to thrive. It certainly deserves to.

The trip to Nungubane was a birthday present from my husband, and I don't think I have ever had such a wonderful gift. The two nights and three days that we spent more than met expectations, which were high to begin with.
The room, the service, the meals, and all amenities were, for me, perfect. But my best were the guided game drives. Our guide was exceptional, and on the last morning, with just 4 out of the full camp up for the experience, myself being one of them, we had a very close encounter with an elephant. It was terrifying and at the same time exhilarating, and is a memory which will remain vividly with me for the rest of my life.
Thank you to all of the staff, who went out of their way to make it a very special experience for us.

I am not someone that usually would leave a review but the Nungubane Family were exceptional in every respect.
Never have I experienced the perfect balance between ultimate professionalism and top shelf service. This applies to every individual that we dealt with. Nothing of our experience was “usual” from the warm uniquely African welcome to the everyday tailor made adjustments to our experience.
I have been on many safari trips through both provincial and national parks, none came close to Nungubane and Keagan!
I learned so much about the bush and the animals that I never knew. It was refreshing to have a guide that was truly connected with the “total bush” paying attention and having deep knowledge of every aspect from the big 5 through to birds, dung beetles and plants - absolutely refreshing.
If you choose to visit Nungubane, be sure to spen 90 minutes with Anne and her hot stones (massage) she is a wizard!
I can’t find fault with any aspect of our visit (and I am critical in this sense).
If there was just one improvement that I might Suggs it would be to have a pair of binoculars allocated to each chalet for overseas traveler’s who might not have their own (but this too was accommodated for us).
Thank you Nungubane Family - I hope that we can visit with you again.
Warm regards
Andre de Wet

I went to Nungubane with my husband for four nights (five days). It was my first time in South Africa and Nungubane completely stole my heart.

Since the very first day the staff and the managers made Nungubane feel like home.

All the meals were AMAZING! Lizzie is an amazing cook, I already miss so much those meals…

We had several masajes with Annie and Elisa, and REALLY I have never been more relaxed in my whole life.

In top of the above, what really made our stay UNFORGETTABLE was our guide, Keegan. He knows so much, and he always took his time to explain everything. We went on mornings and afternoon rides, it is a delight spending so much time with him, we couldn’t have asked for a better guide (which has now become a true friend). Keegan is able to show you the very special unique spots and there is so much that you can learn from him that we cannot wait to come back.

As already said; the management team (Chris and Annouchka) was amazing and the staff was super nice (including Jyan, Martha and Sarah). The rooms are lovely and the facilities are awesome.

I left the lodge with tears on my eyes and I am already planning on coming back. I have fallen in love with Nungubane and its very incredible family that now feels like mine.

Wow, what can I say! My husband and I had the best experience ever. Keegan, Kyra, Monique and all the other staff were incredible, we felt so spoiled. The food was delicious (they made special vegan options available too), the accommodation was beautiful, the game drives amazing with Keegan’s incredible knowledge of animals, plants, birds and insects. They also arranged a romantic dinner for our anniversary:). We are already missing the bush and the staff, it truly feels like they are family! We will definitely be back as soon as we can. Thanks guys! Hope to see you very soon again!

The reason we chose Nungubane in Welgevonden was the proximity to Pretoria. We did not want to travel too far as we only had 3 nights. I went with no expectations and was beyond impressed. I have been to numerous game lodges but never have I seen animals so close up which is strange as they do not go off the roads in Welgevonden. We saw the big five in the first two days with numerous, up-close sitings of courting leopards.

The young couple that run the Nungubane Lodge are delightful, knowledgeable and really create an intimate, homely environment. I would definitely go back.

Stayed 3 nights and from the moment Keegan picked us up, we were absolutely blown away. Every single element of this experience was above and beyond what we had imagined. The warm welcome and continued hospitality, the attention to detail, the beautiful lodge and rooms, the food, and the little surprises every day made this trip a true highlight. Keegan, Kyra, Monique and all of the staff were exceptional. The game drives were brilliant and made so special due to Keegans encyclopaedic knowledge! We saw so many animals and beautiful scenery. We cannot recommend Nungubane highly enough. Book and you will not regret it!!

I stayed at Nungubane for 4 days in May, What a wonderful place. Very intimate with only a few rooms, which allowed for great interactions with both the staff and other guests. Cosy little bar, great food and fantastic guides for the game drives. The rooms were beautiful, spotlessly clean and well appointed and the whole lodge was well managed and friendly. The game and birdlife in the reserve is of a high standard, I was lucky enough to see a great variety, including the elusive Aardwolf! A special thanks to Peter, Keegan and Bertud for making it such a memorable experience. I shall return!
