The lodge is very comfortable, with all the amenities you could want. We saw a good number of various animals at the watering whole just outside our porch, which was an amazing addition. The staff are exceptional, and the service could not be faulted. All of the staff are extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The food was certainly exceptional, truly delicious, good variety, and beautifully presented. Additional costs of drinks were reasonably priced and the servings very generous! The drives are in comfortable cars, with extremely experienced drivers - shout-out to Ephraim, through whose skill we managed to see the Big Five within five drives, as well as hippo, ostrich, giraffe etc.. Ephraim was also very considerate, made sure we saw a variety of animals and landscapes, and interacted in a very respectful way with the animals (no gun was carried). Drives are through stunning landscape, and punctuated with coffee and biscotti in the morning, and sundowner drinks and beautiful nibbles in the evening (no extra cost). Due to the limited number of rooms the lodge and the drive never felt too crowded, and we were alone when using the pool in the afternoons. All in all an exceptional stay, in beuatiful surroundings, with lovely staff and great food. We wouldn't hesitate to stay at Fifty-Seven again, and will be wholeheartedly recommending it.

57 Waterberg is a luxury game reserve. We loved the location and the spacious room with view on the drinking pool where we spotted kudu, wardhog, monkey drinking during the day. Food was excellent; good quality and choice. Staff is super friendly and makes sure you have the best experience.

Lovely refur lodge, beautiful bedrooms and bathrooms. Our guide was amazing, very knowledgeable and great sense of humor.
Only disappointments was the lunch on the first day and the lack of umbrellas when raining. Meals served are generally very good, however After travelling for nearly 4 hours, we were expecting a fulfilling lunch. Instead we were served a soup, with toasted cheese and an apple crumble. Basically a starter and dessert.
The rooms are situated away from reception, so when it rains it's not pleasant walking to your room without an umbrella, there were too few at reception to cater for all the guests.
Overall a pleasant stay, friendly staff.

We recently had the privaledge of returning to Fifty Seven for a break from the city and the chaos that surrounds everyday life... an escape to a place that we knew would give us a safe haven, where we could relax and take a deep breath of truly fresh air.
Like any movie critic would tell you, the sequel is never as good as the original. BUT, in the case of our return to Fifty Seven, we were blown away by the "performance". From our arrival straight through to our teary eyed farewell, we could not believe the heartfelt attention to detail that this team brings to the experience.
The facilities are impeccably well kept and the food from chef Monaheng and his team took us on a culinary journey comparable to some of the best restaurants you can find.
Our game drives delivered the best sightings, from lionesses playing, elephants, rhinos and hippos to a cheetah mom and her cub feasting away on a freshly caught impala. But even the small interesting bush facts that would otherwise go missing, were pointed out but our amazing guides.

This "sequel" was definitely Oscar Award worthy and I cannot help but plan our next getaway.

Thank you Fifty Seven!!

I do not think me and my partner could of chose a better place to experience our first ever Safari and visit to South Africa. Rita was so helpful with initial enquiries and the booking process, its thanks to her that we booked this with confidence from the UK.
We stayed in the Honeymoon Suite and it was exceptional. Welgevonden Game Reserve is beutiful and well managed, the animals within it look like they are thriving, it has a healthy population of rhino, which was really good to see, given how endangered they are. We seen all the big 5 during our stay plus hippos, many zebra, giraffe, warthogs, amazing bird species, monkeys.... Bryen & Ephraim our game rangers were amazing, friendly and very knowledgable about the animals. We went on a walking Safari with Bryen which was a brilliant experience and highly recommended.
The food and drinks were on point, all the staff were attentive and friendly, we could not of asked for more.
The overall accomodation and safari experience we had was quite magical and one we will not forget.
57 Waterberg is an amazing lodge which offers super value in the most scenic surroundings, if you choose this place you will not be disappointed!

We stayed in a luxury lodge for three nights and enjoyed 6 game drives with friendly and knowledgable guides in open sided vehicles. We saw 4 of the big 5, the elusive leopard could not be found.
It should be said that the animals in the reserve are not overly plentiful so don’t expect huge herds of wilder-beast or large prides of lions however everything is there to be seen.
The food prepared would not be out of place in a Michelin star restaurant and we loved every lunch and dinner we had.
The accommodation was beautiful, clean and so well equipped.
The staff are all very attentive and keen to make sure you have everything you need.
I recommend lodge 8 where we stayed as the elephants often drink from your plunge pool
We hope to return soon as it was one our best experiences

We have stayed at 57 a number of times and always had a special experience......but this time was exceptional. Apart from the “usual” excellent service, magnificent meals and well organized game drives, we were fortunate enough be part a very special game drive. This time we witnessed the darting/capturing and treatment of one of the larger and more mature elephant bulls in Welgevonden. What an amazing experience, witnessing the treatment of an elephant with a broken off tusk! From darting it, removing whatever infection there was, doing a “root canal” and plugging the hole to prevent further infection to ensure that the new tusk can grow again. Accolades to Welgevonden Game Reserve and a team of professionals that know exactly what they’re doing! And a huge thank you to 57 Waterberg Lodge for the invitation to witness this. We can always count on something exceptional at 57!

We recently visited 57 as our first getaway after lockdown. We stayed in the luxury suite which is absolutely breathtaking! We had an elephant visit on our second day and drank water out of our pool. It was an awesome bucket list experience! The suite is aesthetically appealing with great architectural design offering panoramic views of the bush, complete with your own private plunge pool!

The service was impeccable. We received a warm welcome from Stuart and we were in the hands of Ephraim throughout our stay who is a very knowledgeable ranger and doubled up as our private photographer when needed haha. Besides getting an elephant and cheetah visit, the food was AMAZING! Fine dining quality. The best I've ever had in the bush! Michael also offered us in room dining service for a bit of privacy and we had the chef come to our suite to explain the menu for the night.

Overall, I would highly recommend 57 waterberg to anyone who wants to have an authentic, quality African safari experience with a modern twist and appealing aesthetics.

We went here for my boyfriend's birthday and the villa is just stunning, very secluded, in the middle of nature has a private heated pool. The pool area at the villa does need some umbrellas for shade as it was super hot and unusable. The meals were great, I was very happy that they catered for vegan options. I'm just not a fan of artichokes and leeks so didn't enjoy those as much but still grateful that they chef catered for my needs. The game drives were great, we had really great sightings in the two days we spent there, the snacks on the game drive could be improved for vegans though.
I was also quite disappointed that we couldn't get a couple's massages done even though I requested them more than 2 months in advance. They could have told me and I would have booked else where. When asked about it, staff were quite rude and unprofessional as the manager said there's nothing he can do as the other lady didn't come to work. As we walked away, I heard him tell the staff that he's not going to get another lady in just got one couple. I think that could have been handled professionally. Anyway, that kinda rubbed me the wrong way especially since I've been planning this for a while.
I was quite grateful for the complimentary birthday cake and the chef even made it vegan which I didn't request, really really appreciated that. Thank you chef!

Hi Ana, By car it is approximately 3h from Johannesburg. The road is in a great condition and it's a safe and pleasant drive. You can easily rent a vehicle or we can arrange a transfer for you. There are also daily flights to Vaalwater or a plane can be charted straight into the reserve. You are welcome to contact Rita directly for more information.
