Situated in the heart of the malaria-free Welgevonden Private Game Reserve in South Africa, Ekuthuleni Lodge invites you to savour true African luxury. Ekuthuleni Lodge, meaning "place of peace," has sweeping views of the Savannah plains, and is home to the Big Five and many other species of game. Ekuthuleni Lodge invites guests to relax next to the swimming pool overlooking sweeping grassy plains, or watch the sun as its sets at the end of an African day. If the weather is cool, curl up with a book in one of the comfortable lounges before enjoying a delicious meal prepared with the freshest ingredients available. Meals can be enjoyed in the cosy dining room or the open air deck, sheltered from the elements by a reed awning. Each of the five suites offer intimacy and privacy, with magnificent views of the grasslands, giving a whole new meaning to nature on your doorstep. The romantic bathrooms open onto a private courtyard and have both indoor and outdoor showers. Two daily game drives are conducted by experienced rangers who will provide intimate details of the abundant flora and fauna, many of which is unique to the Waterberg. Watch the morning sun scribble intriguing patterns across the veld and contemplate the day's journey. Enjoy an early morning safari and watch Africa awaken in front of your eyes. Then head home for a scrumptious breakfast before settling down for your midday siesta. After sundowner drinks, allow the darkness of the African bush to envelop you on your evening game safari. Nightlife abounds in the African bush and dangers lurk everywhere. Lions on the hunt and leopards stalking prey in the cover of darkness are truly magnificent sights to behold.

After spending a long time in lockdown an outdoor safari experience was definitely needed, and boy oh boy did we pick the perfect place!

The location of the actual lodge is stunning and open with a watering hole in close viewing distance. With only 5 luxurious rooms we felt secluded and spoiled.

The staffs attention to detail and great hospitality made our experience even better. The lodge has fantastic management! The chef, Steven really went over and above by providing deliciously cooked and flavor packed meals throughout our stay, our rooms we’re always kept clean with the turndown service and I even got a sweet gift and personal card decorated in my room on my birthday which really added such a nice touch to our overall stay. We always felt relaxed and safe due to their well kept COVID regulations as well.

The wildlife in the reserve was magnificent, our guide (Also a Steven haha) was just fantastic. On the very first night we saw a Leopard! He was so patient and really went over and above to give us an unforgettable and wild journey. Each drive had new scenery and different animals to see which made it all the more exciting. On our trip we managed to see the entire big 5 in just 2 drives which was magical.

I would definitely recommend Ekuthuleni Lodge to anyone looking for a 5 star experience at an affordable price. I will most certainly be back again!

As part of organizing a company trip to South Africa, we were looking for a luxurious and homely lodge that would be able to accommodate our needs, and Ekuthuleni Lodge ticked all of the boxes. Van and Esmeralde managed to accommodate all of our needs, and they welcomed us into their home with open arms.

Ekuthleni lodge is situated right in the heart of the Welgevonden game reserve, and right in front of the lodge sits a watering hole. All throughout the day and night, you will be treated to animals visiting the hole, and our group was even lucky enough to see hippos wandering along the road right in front of the lodge. Add in zebras and other animals walking right past the rooms at night and you’ve got the perfect safari experience.

The home-cooked meals were delicious, with the kitchen staff catering to some special dietary requirements within the party at every meal. The food and entertainment was incredible, we certainly left with a few extra kilos in weight each!

The rooms were incredibly clean, tidy and the glass doors in the bathroom certainly provided a breathtaking view of nature while resting after game drives. If you’re feeling brave enough, you can even try the outdoor shower to become one with nature. High-speed Wi-Fi is available on site, and it even reaches a few of the rooms so you can reconnect to the digital world and share the amazing photos and videos with friends and family.

As for the game drives, they were out of this world. With our group consisting mainly of first timers, we were treated to an incredible show from the animals in the park. Robert guided us around the park, giving us expert insight into the animals, their habitat and behavior as well as answering any questions with his valuable insight. Robert helped us see virtually all of the big 5 and worked very well with the other rangers to share sightings so that everyone got a share of the action. Robert’s incredible knowledge and experience led to a trip that none of us will ever forget!

All in all, our stay with Van, Esmeralde and the crew was out of this world. We had the most amazing time, took once in a lifetime photos and made memories that will stick with us for the rest of our lives. If you’re looking for an out of this world experience, you need to try out the Ekuthuleni Lodge!

Our third visit to Ekuthuleni and this time it was the best ever. Either management or the owners have stepped up to the plate and added lots of bits and pieces to make the stay special. Staff were superb and food portions just right. Game sightings were amazing. Just an all round fantastic experience. Thanks to Es and Van for making it a special Christmas and going the extra mile to make guests feel special.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay here and will definitely be back.

We saw all of the big 5, including leopard after dark with her cub. The staff are amazing and the food is something special (there was not one single meal that i could fault, even something as common as an omelette for breakfast.

There is real warmth to the lodge and all the staff treat you like family.

the location is a real treat, overlooking a little watering hole, we had visitors from several game including a curious Elephant that wanted in on the action at the lodge.

having experienced a number of places in several locations around Africa, i can highly recommend a visit here.

What an amazing relief to be able to have escaped the corners of our 4 walls at home.
A short drive of less than 3hrs from Pretoria, opens you up to another world.
Ekuthuleni Lodge was literally in every way a breath of fresh air.
My daughter and I decided it was time for a girls weekend away, this establishment catered to our needs.
The rooms were very comfortable, clean, with a pleasing decor.
The staff were all amazing, food was very tasteful, portions on point. The chef (Steven) made friendly appearances and fulfilled our requests to the T.
Jonas was an excellent ranger, showing patience and broad knowledge of the bush and its inhabitance, thank you.
It was wonderful to enjoy our breakfast and lunches on the terrace that overlooks the watering hole close by.
All round, I would most definetly revisit the lodge for a quick getaway from home.

Our family visited with my mother of 82 and my uncle of 88 years old. The staff did a wonderful job in making it possible for them to enjoy the park and the lodge. My mother, who walks with a walker was placed close enough to the main building. The staff was also very flexible in pick-up and return times and we also in the length of the game drives. When my uncle and mother did not join the early morning game drive, the terrace holds a beautiful view of the plains, with sight on a waterhole where they good constantly see zebra's, waterbuck, monkeys etc. drinking. The driver of the lodge is one of the most experienced and long-time involved in the park and knows exactly where to go to have great wild life viewing and sundowners! Super value for money and we cherish the fond memories of this trip. Thanks, Teun

We had an amazing time at the lodge. The location in the park (in the middle) makes it very easy to go to all directions of the park. It also starts with a small game drive from the entrance of the park to the lodge, which is a nice start of the stay. We do not have any complaints, it was wonderful!

Fantastic few days in the bush, everything was laid on and nothing was too much for anyone to do for us. From location, accommodation, meals, service to games drives we enjoyed every minute and were sad to leave after 4 days. will definitely be going back and would have no hesitation recommending Ekuthuleni Lodge

We stayed here for 4 nights from the 29th December until 2nd January. 3 adults and a 13yr old. It was amazing.
The lodges were lovely and the beds are so comfortable. The little touches of chocolates, cookies and notes during turn down are a lovely touch.
The staff here go above and beyond. Sindy the general manager made sure we had everything we needed, as my son is a wheelchair user. Even being unwell herself she made sure to come and see us everyday to make sure we was okay. Sam our butler was lovely and kept us topped with beverages. Issac the chef cooked the most delicious food, I even tried things I dont normally eat. The food is so fresh. You get breakfast, 2 course lunch and 3 course dinner, as well as snacks on the drives.
Jonas our tracker who took us out on our drives was brilliant. His knowledge is incredible and he always knew where to go to get the best sitings. In fact on our first ever drive we had seen 4 out of the big 5.
The lodge is in a great place right next to the watering hole. Meaning you see all kinds of wildlife throughout the day and night up close. We had zebras, wart hogs, baboons and Rhino right by the lodge. One evening a elephant came up to camp and the other 4 rhinos were eating just below the terrace where we was having dinner.
All in all we found it difficult to leave and can't wait to return. We would 100% recommend everyone to visit here. Hopefully we will be back for Christmas 2024 😊 Thank you to you all for making our stay so special.
