We enjoyed our 3 night stay at Tshwene lodge very much. From pickup at the Welgevonden gate to drop-off 4 days later the service was extremely friendly without being intrusive. With only 5 units this lodge is ideal for a couples break. Food was delicious. We loved the tapas style lunches and enjoyed the oxtail dinner around the campfire in the boma. Most meals however was served on the deck next to the pool which is also very nice. Wifi is only available at the main complex and there is no cellphone reception- a bonus. We probably had one of the best massages ever- spoil yourself. Our room no 3 was spacious with a deck which we enjoyed. The bathroom is beautiful with inside and outside shower. A minibar in the room would have been a plus as would be a small coffee machine. There is a mini fridge they can just as well stock it with a few drinks. Jacobs sachet coffee just doesn’t fit a lodge like this. I got a sense that woodwork like doors and decks in and around the rooms needs a little tlc.

We made a decision to celebrate our 9th wedding anniversary at Tshwene Lodge in Welgevonden Game Reserve. We had such a great time and made valuable memories and all thanks to the entire staff at the lodge. Our Main Guide was a gentleman by the name of Steven. He took care of us and ensured that our weekend stay was a memorable one. He made all our game drives so pleasant with his calm demeanor and patience, and most importantly, his knowledge of the animals and the game reserve at large. The Big 5 experience at the game reserve is a winner.

The food was top notch and thanks to Chef Sina for always making sure that our dishes met our expectations. The bar was manned by a very friendly gentleman by the name of Izy. The entire staff went all out to deliver a memorable customer experience. The cleaners always left our room clean and accommodating.

The rooms have a great view of the mountains and hills and offering a great level of ambiance.

My husband and I had a perfect weekend at Tshwene Lodge. Welgevonden Game Reserve is beautiful and full of animals. The lodge is located an hour from the entrance and you are driven there by the guide through the reserve. The staff were all incredibly helpful and skilled. Our guide did a great job finding animals and being considerate of the wildlife and other vehicles. The chef did a fantastic job of meeting my particular dietary requirements. The food was delicious and varied. We got massages that were very relaxing. Those women definitely know how to put power into the right spots. The lodge itself was lovely, quiet, peaceful, and completely secluded. There are only 5 rooms, so 10 people max. A great choice for a romantic couples trip. We enjoyed the outdoor shower off the side of the room. There was good wifi at the main building and it reached out to rooms 1 & 2. Note, the lodge is not wheelchair accessible and would be difficult for someone who can't climb many stairs or walk on uneven ground. Overall we had an amazing time and would go back again next weekend if we could.

When I did the booking I must say that I was concerned as the price quoted for what was offered was far less than other lodges. However the need to get away overcame my concern and I booked a 3 day stay over Christmas. We drove to Welgevonden Game Reserve. We were pleasantly welcomed by the lodge's game drive vehicle and our guide, Elias, was excellent. When we arrived at the lodge itself, after an hour game drive, we were met by the warm smile and the wonderful hospitality of the lodge's team, Sinah, the chef and person responsible, Ezekiel, Linah, Maria and Lawrence. What an amazing team. For the entire period of our stay they made us feel special. Sinah wooed us with her culinary skills. What amazing dishes. The premises are excellent. Located in a quiet position overlooking a ravine. Immersed in the South African bush. Ideal for a quiet get away. Only 5 units with comfortable amenities. I loved the indoor and out door showers and my wife the baths. Swimming pool, spa - great massage by Linah and the restaurant / bar managed excellently by Ezekiel. Excellent game drives with Elias who new exactly how to read the bush and where to find the animals. We saw all the big 5 and the lesser game.Everything was perfect. If I can add what may be improved is the lack of wifi in the rooms. But then again, when you are looking to get away, do you really want wifi in the rooms??

A really amazing weekend. Staff, food, game viewing was all top class. The service we received made the weekend amazing, our only task was to relax and enjoy ourselves. Chef Isaac made sure we were fed the most amazing food, and our guide Thabang ensured we saw everything we wanted. Highlight was a female Cheetah with 4 cubs! We will be back, but for more nights!

This is a lovely place with only 5 lodges about 3 hours from Jo'burg airport. The staff were lovely but in particular a HUGE special mention for our Game Driver Elias who really made our trip special. His knowledge of the area and the way he constantly looked out for even the slightest movement in the trees was a real treat. We had 6 game drives during out stay - 4 with Elias and every single one was memorable. We had coffee within sight of a baboon in the trees one morning and sunset drinks within metres of rhino and zebra one evening. It was an incredible experience.

The lodges are lovely - need a little bit of upgrading in the furniture and bathrooms but we loved the outside shower, toiletries and the balcony. It is also extremely clean and housekeeping are fantastic. Bed linen was really nice too.

Food on the first couple of nights was also extremely good but the kitchen staff changed and the last meal on our last night wasn't anywhere as good as the first two, which was a pity. Paul who did all the waitering was really nice and always had a lovely cocktail waiting for us when we returned from the evening drives.

I had a massage from Dorcas in a lovely secluded lodge kept for the spa treatments and that was really nice.

On our last night, an elephant had wandered into the entrance where we got dropped off after each game drive. A real highlight and incredible to see.

All in all - this is a great place to stay and we would recommend.

Such a pleasure driving 2hrs30mins from Jhb and arriving at a Big 5 reserve. We were then welcomed with drinks and a 1hr game drive to the lodge. Situated on a rocky outcrop amongst the forest, the tree lined walkways through the lodge create a very unique experience. The staff are amazing - so friendly and attentive. The food was delicious. Some real R&R and a recommended time away!

Tshwene Lodge is soulful. Ezekiel, the manager, and his team are first class. From the moment you arrive they are attentive, joyful, full of knowledge and meet you with the warmest smiles. The chef is simply wonderful. He goes out of his way to deal with difficult dietary requirements. The food is just spectacular. Take the time to enjoy the spa. Linah and her team are warm, always smiling and give the best massages. Gibson is a brilliant ranger. We saw everything from zebra, kudu, red hartebees to the big 5 and the most spectacular cheetah and leopard kills. He is intuitive and full of knowledge. If you are looking for peace and soulful time away, visit Tshwene. Not just because you will experience amazing sights - you can get that anywhere. Go to Tshwene for the people and the deep sense of calm and soulful happiness that this place offers.

Coming back to Tshwene for the second time reminded us why we came back. The most amazing staff to welcome you to a secluded lodge tucked away in the hillside. Game viewing of the highest quality with a great chance of seeing the Big 5 thanks to the knowledgeable guides. 3 course meals for lunch and supper, out of this world. We will definitely be going back every opportunity we get
