This was the second visit to Pitse for most of our party, after a wait of 15 years. We returned with extra children so our family group ranged from 11 to 75 years. Everyone had a wonderful time and we were thoroughly well looked after by Haydn, Christie and the whole team. The main lodge and individual rooms are luxurious but nothing compares to the animal sightings. We were lucky to see a vast numbers of animals including elephants, cheetah and lions. The open veranda also gave amazing experiences when animals visited for water. The food was fantastic and gluten free options were carefully catered for. We would highly recommend this to anyone and will hopefully be back again one day!

Haydn & Christie have been running this lodge since we first went 15 years ago. We loved the stay then and it was even better this time. They run the lodge so well with their staff and the safari drives are exceptional. The accommodation is beautiful and the food is exceptional. We will definitely be going back for our 3rd visit.

What a slice of paradise Haydn and Christie have carved out for their guests at Pitse! This was our family's second trip to Pitse (from North America). We discovered Pitse as a result of having been at a different lodge in another reserve in South Africa where Haydn and Christie were working at at that time -- almost 14 years ago. We were so impressed with both of them so it was an easy call to visit them a few years later when they moved to assume operations at Pitse. We knew we had to go back again. Simply put, they are such lovely, lovely people whose passion for what they do is infectious. We came looking for an excellent safari experience and we left with two great new friends. Apart from the fantastic hosts, what else are the calling card for Pitse? The advantages of having exclusive use of the entire lodge cannot be overstated. Everything is personalized. We are relatively experienced safari goers (having been to about 30 different safari lodges in 7 different countries) but Pitse is relatively unique in being an exclusive use. We have greatly enjoyed meeting people from all over the world on safari but there is something special to have such a great experience with just your closest family and friends with everything accommodated toward what you are most interested in, whether it is the timing and choice of meals or what to focus on while on a game drive. The game drives are fantastic. Haydn is absolutely top notch in his knowledge of the bush and his inter-personal skills (particularly with engaging everyone from children to seniors) are outstanding. You are all but guaranteed have amazing sightings. Particularly noteworthy at this reserve is the ability to see rhinos. We saw them every day, including just meters away from us while we enjoyed our lunch on the sunny deck at the lodge. Cheetah sightings were exceptional as well -- an animal otherwise difficult to see in most parks in South Africa. While the density of big cats likely will not rival the Masai Mara or Sabi Sands, we found the pace and ability to focus on particular sightings for as long as you would like to be very, very rewarding. We highly recommend taking at least one day to explore Sterkfontein which abuts the reserve but is a huge separately fenced area that is owned by the owners of Pitse -- i.e. you will encounter no other cars from other vehicles. Without any big cats but with plenty of other game (including the all so very rare aardvark), you can explore at your leisure including by hiking, biking, or fishing giving you a very different connection to nature than sitting in a safari vehicle. Without the big cats, the animals are way less timid. We had some lovely sightings at Sterkfontein as well made all the better by this unique experience. The food? It was off the charts! It is amazing what they prepare day in or day out, with each and every meal a lovely experience. The staff are obviously treated well as they all tend to very long-term employees and provide service that is of the upmost quality but very personal and friendly. We can't wait to return for a third visit to Pitse!

Dear Christie, Haydn and Pitse Staff, We decided to get married at the Pitse Lodge, and what a great decision it was! Our weddingsday turned out to be a day we will truly never forget; but the whole Pitse experience was fantastic! The hospitality is unmatched, Pitse turned out to be a home away from home. The gamedrives were amazing, not only did we see a lot of animals (thanks to our excellent guide Haydn), but Haydn also shared so much of his knowledge. Watching rhino’s, elephants passing by, drinking water from the pool, while we were sipping from a coffee on the terrace; it was so amazing! Christie’s excellent taste and keen eye for detail made the stay at the lodge unforgettable. We will most definately come back! Thanks for giving us wonderful memories! Barbra & Jacob (Sander, Tim, Charles, Janny, Dennis, Lilian and Linda)

What can I say. A piece of heaven on earth. We went here with the family to celebrate my Dad’s 80th Birthday. Everything about this place is beyond expectation. Hayden and Christie who run the place are amazing. Hayden is so knowledgeable and managed to spot impossible game as well as keep us all calm when we had a close encounter with elephants. They are so passionate about what they do and it shows. The staff is super friendly and the food yum. Having sun downers while 5 Rhinos drinking from the lodges pond 5 meters away is something magical. The fires at night the bedrooms I can’t fault it. This was a trip of a lifetime and we leave with everlasting memories. Thanks so much everyone at Pitse lodge for giving us this unforgettable experience. We hope to be back and recommend this to everyone. ❤️

That moment when you arrive at Pitse Lodge and you have to pinch yourself more than ones to realise this aint a dream you're in! Every single detail has been amazing. The view, the suites, the meals (miss them so much already!), the staff, the game drives with the best guide ever, our wedding, nothing could have been more perfect! When it comes to personal contact and knowing what your guests like Christie, Haydn and the Pitse staff did everything to make sure we loved every minute of our stay. We stayed at Pitse Lodge for our wedding and I can't believe how perfect this day has been. We didn't have to think about a things, everything had been taking care of. We felt so special! Can't wait to be back at this little piece of heaven on earth!

A South African Safari is a once in a lifetime experience for our family so we wanted the absolute best. For our family, the 2 biggest things that seem to impact a great safari adventure is the quality of the accommodations and the quality of the ranger. There are lots of luxury lodges in South Africa (and I'm sure they are all excellent - as was Pitse) but what set Pitse apart was the private home feeling (it is the owner's vacation home, and we had exclusive use of the property which is a big deal). The staff were around if we needed anything, but didn't hover and gave us our privacy. This allowed our family to feel like we were at home (our dream home away from home) and had a great bonding time. There is quite a lot of time between game drives so there is lots of time to lounge around. Ranger quality is the only thing between you and a great animal experience. I'm pretty sure we had the best ranger on the reserve. Haydn has a professional but laid back personality which, when coupled with his extensive knowledge about every animal and how to track them, allowed us to pepper him with questions and really deepen our understanding of nature and the beautiful relationships between all living things. As if a testament to his skill, all the rangers share information on sightings and we were always the ones sharing information with the other rangers. Plus because he also manages the lodge with his wife, you can be sure that he will be your ranger.
