If travelling to stave please stay here! It surpassed all of our expectations (and having been to Kenya many times my expectations are usually pretty accurate!). Right on the edge of Tsavo West this place offers a phenomenal location with incredible vistas all while providing great rooms and service. The gardens are a treat for bird lovers and the lookout point spoils you with amazing wildlife- we had jackals, impala, baboons, mongoose, zebras and even elephants come to say hi! The rooms were spacious and comfortable with ENORMOUS beds! The service and staff were so lovely and helpful and the food was delicious! Really highly recommend a stay here for a few days!
Fantastic little 'resort' right on the intersection of Lake Jipe and the western-most side of Tsavo West National Park. One of the best value for money given the location, things to do, accommodation and customer service. It is the perfect place to stay if you would like to explore Lake Jipe and then enter Tsavo West National Park or vice versa. If you can survive the nearly impassable dirt road (could take 1.5 hours) from Cessi off the main Taveta-Voi highway towards Lake Jipe, a little paradise will be awaiting you. For bird lovers, this is your spot. All of the noise you will hear in the evening, throughout the night, and early morning is the birds chirping. Do you fancy large flying beetles? You will see all kinds here in the evenings and they swirl around the lights. I probably saw the biggest beetle I have ever seen. If it is rainy season, be ready to see a few in the common areas.
I would go back here any day for the super-friendly staff, good food, cute swimming pool, and its near-complete isolation for some much needed peace and calm off the beaten path. Try the 'boat ride' on the lake from the national park gate. We got a glimpse of elephants swimming!
Awesome hotel The food was fresh, properly prepared and a great value for the price. The friendliness of the staff seems genuine. I have never seen such good customer service as I experienced poolside.
The location of this Camp is fantastic. Knowing to have booked a basic Camp at reasonable rate, we did not expect too much. But even this little expectation was not matched. The simple Cabins are OK, but with a bit effort the rooms and Bathrooms could be made cleaner and more tidy. From the sink tap hardly any water come through, bathroom full of spider cobs and dirty corners. The well presented A La cart Menu is impressive, but most of the dishes are not available. Asking to recommend a dish which is easy to prepare, we ordered a Stir Fry Beef . Pole Sana, the Chef did not have his best day or he was on leave. Second day with Chicken Curry the quality and taste was much better. Staff was always friendly, but not very competent. As there is no other Camp close by, we will visit again, as the area is fantastic with lots of wild live and beautiful landscape.
A group of 20 of us had paid to use the campsite & the tents which are supplied, however due to going in the short rain season, torrential rain pounded down around us & with the tents supplied not being waterproof our items & mattresses were soaked through (See pics for further details). Having spoken to the management they explained that they had purchased the tents from China & were unaware that they were not waterproof even though they came with no outer sheet. One would expect that when offering a campsite & tents you would do some research into tents.
HOWEVER, even though we were not able to camp, the staff were great as they put us up in the rooms (Although many had to share mattresses as there were no longer enough). Not sure what they would have done if the rooms were already booked out mind.
Overall the rooms were nice & clean with comfy mattresses. Waking up one morning to a heard of elephants strolling no more than 30m away from you is quite a sight! There is an electric fence that goes around the whole of the camp so you are protected from any wandering animals. A raised platform area with views onto a water hole allows you to wait for elephants to come in comfort.
The lake itself is only 1km away & takes less than 10 minutes to reach where you have the chance to go on a boat ride to see hippos & views of Mount Kilimanjaro.
We didn't try the food as we were cooking ourselves however I would advise anyone staying to bring their own drinking water as drinks are quite expensive on site (100KSH for 500ml of water, 250KSH for a bottle of Tusker Beer).
Overall would definitely visit again just with the hope that they would have some waterproof tents next time!

"You can bring your own tent and camp on the facilities. Ask for rooms closer to the entry gate."
