Nicely located in the middle of the Catskills, just 2h30 from NYC, they have beautiful and very spacious rooms. You can have treatments in their spa. Their restaurant is perfect for breakfast an diner and you can eat outside weather permitting.

Stayed here 1 night in February while doing a tasting for our daughter's reception at Foxfire Mountain House, which is right across the street from the resort. We stayed in the lodge, which has a log cabin feel to it. Beds were comfy and the plush robes were an added bonus. In season this resort goes for $400 +/- and has a 2 night minimum. We paid $270, which still seems high for a location that offers few things to do besides ski in the winter months. This hotel was convenient for our needs that weekend. Otherwise I'd suggest looking at Kingston for more reasonably priced hotels.

My friend and I decided to stay here after we found out the spa was closed this week at the resort I usually go to!
The main building was luxurious and beautiful. Customer service in every single department was exceptional. My friend got sick while there and the amount of people offering to help was impressive, and throughout our stay kept asking how she felt.
We had every dinner in woodnotes, 1 in the dining room and 2 in the bar. The food and drinks were fabulous. You must try the home made ricotta! Breakfast in the coffee shop one morning also had an impressive selection and free coffee for hotel guests. The gift shops were beautiful and had a great selection. We also enjoyed the world largest kaleidoscope.
We stayed in the lodge. It was very rustic and roomy with 2 floors and would have loved it for a different type of vacation. It was not luxurious like the main building so did not have the same feel as the upscale spa trip we hoped for. We did enjoy the Beekman 1802 bath products.
Although we were very comfortable, I wish this had been explained when I made the reservation. I wished we had stayed in the main building and would have been more disappointed and felt too secluded had I been alone like I usually am for my annual spa trip.
The spa was beautiful and relaxing and our massages were fabulous. I was disappointed that I was told we could not use the spa lounge on the day we didn’t have treatments scheduled. Most spas will let you pay to just use the facilities for the day. That said, due to the outdoor hot tub being down that day (also disappointing, but we enjoyed it the next day), the manager allowed us to use the lounge that first day.
All in all, great resort and spa, top notch customer service and food. We would do it alittle differently if we were to come back though, and not being able to use the spa lounge as a hotel guest, even with a fee without a treatment, would be a deal breaker for a future spa vacation, especially since non hotel guests were allowed to pay a fee for the yoga studio, hot tub and gym.

Thank you for this wonderful feedback. We’re glad you found us after your other plans didn't work out! In terms of the spa lounge, I think you are referring to the "Quiet Room." This room is typically used for guests who have received a treatment and it serves as a peaceful transition from your treatment back to the outside world. This being said, the Relaxation Room, steam, sauna, hot tub and fitness center are accessible for overnight guests even without a treatment. Thank you again for choosing the Emerson and we hope to welcome you back again soon! Best Naomi CEO Emerson Resort & Spa

We were looking for a getaway relatively close to home and thought the Emerson would be a location since we were interested in trying the Rail Explorers tour. When inquiring about the hotel with their staff, I noted that we did not drive. The hotel suggested that we take the shortline bus to Phoenicia and take a car service to the hotel, a list of services was provided. However, what we nold told was that the taxis were not necessarily always available and if available might take an hour for pick up and cost at least $60 for a 5 minute ride. Upon arrival in Phoenicia, we were unable to find car service. We called the hotel and fortunately Kristine from the front desk received permission from her manager to pick us up. She was very courteous and professional and checked us in immediately upon arrival. We're grateful to her! We mentioned that we had a morning tour ($130) with Rail Explorers but were afraid we would not be able to get transportation. She suggested we ask the front desk in the morning to see what arrangements could be made. Unfortunately, the front desk and management was not helpful. They cited Covid 19 issues as the reason for not using the hotel's van for the five minute trip. They gave phone numbers to car services that had no cars available. We missed the tour which was to be the highlight of the weekend and lost $130. The hotel has no problem taking our "Covid 19" dollars. Maybe if they had more employees like Kristine we would feel better.

Thank you for sharing your concerns, we are very sorry to hear about your transportation experience. We are located in a beautiful but rural area where public transportation is not always readily available. Our reservations team works hard to make it clear that transportation arrangements need to be made in advance as they are not guaranteed. This recommendation can also be found on our website. We greatly appreciate the five star Trip Advisor review you gave for our restaurant, Woodnotes Grille, and our management and staff. We hope to welcome you back again soon. Best, Naomi CEO

We had a lovely experience here and would definitely come again. The reason for 4/5 is 2 things: 1, getting in/out of the soaking tub (if you so choose that treatment) is tricky and even a little risky.. if you're not very mobile or confident, would not recommend choosing a soak as it is not a smooth/easy transition otherwise. 2. I was interrogated going into the bathroom by an employee, that did not have a mask on.. I had finished my massage, was super relaxed and was motioned the bathroom by therapist to use the bathroom when a sanitation employee asked if I had had an appointment or treatment, did I rent a locker, etc. I kept answering her Q's until I finally said, "I need to use the toilet" then she let me through the door. Other than those 2 things, had a lovely time.

Although they were not booking the entire resort it was not overly busy. At check-in they informed us that the resort was short staffed and the Woodnotes Grille only served dinner to 7:30 and no tables were available on a thursday night. We went to the bar to ask if they did takeout or roomservice. That's where we meet Tammy the bartender and the hostess ( forgot her name). They took such good care of us, had a wonderful conversation while we waited for our dinner. Dinner was great we sat on our private deck and looked at the river while we ate salad and pasta. protion of both was large enough to split and very good. Saturday night we had a reservation and agian had a wonderful meal , My wife had roasted chiken and she enjoyed it very much. I had Mushroom rissitto perfect comfort food after a long hike! Our room was very clean and large and we parked right in front of our room. Food prices at the resort are reasonable and the portions are very large especally at breakfast, No $18 omelet's ! We only really had a small complaint about the front desk staff and the fire pits were not lite for some reason, they told us it gets started at 7:30 pm, we went out and nobody was there! The gas pit at the outside bar area you needed to ask to have it started( should just be on if the weather permits?) Any way we had a great time and are planning on returning the staff did the best they could being short staffed!

We were fortunate enough to win a three night getaway to the Emerson Resort and spa. When we pulled into the main parking lot we knew this was going to be a great stay. The building is huge and beautifully kept. We were met by the hotel manager Jonathan who was very welcoming and friendly. He gave us so many choices for local restaurants which we took advantage of. He also let us know what there was to do in the area for our extended stay. The rooms are pricey but absolutely beautiful. The room was huge with a gas fireplace in the cathedral ceiling bed room. The bathroom had a large walk in shower with a rain shower head and wall sprayers. There was also a huge 2 person jet tub. Very relaxing.
The spa is accessible to use with your room reservation. There is a very large exercise room and the spa has the steam/ sauna rooms available. There was a extra large tiled hot tub on the back deck overlooking the river right behind the hotel that was so relaxing. Attached to the hotel is a mini mall that was very quaint. There was also the largest kaleidoscope in the world located there that was complimentary to tour with your hotel reservation. Only $5 but we’ll worth it.
Can’t say enough about the staff at the Emerson either. I’m sorry I didn’t get their names but everyone there was so helpful and gave us so many ideas for us to go see and do. Again such a wonderful stay, so relaxing and everyone was so helpful and friendly.

While the spa and fitness center were excellent, the resort itself seemed a bit tired. There was no housekeeping service; there were no bellmen; guests were requested to remove their own garbage. The front desk staff, while nice, had no real information for us. I guess if we were at a Holiday Inn, those things might seem odd, but OK. However, The Emerson is quite pricey, and in its current incarnation I cannot recommend a stay here.

Oh no - looks like we missed the mark for your stay. You're right, the Spa does close at 5pm (hours for all our venues are listed on our website). By "no housekeeping service" I'm wondering if you're referring to a room refresh? Due to COVID, room refreshes are not available for stays less than three days however, our Front Desk is available at any time to deliver anything you may need. Our outdoor pool is closed in the winter so I believe the pool you're referring to is our salt water hot tub on the Spa deck - a beautiful area to relax and view the mountains and the rushing waters of the Esopus Creek. I hope you choose to give us another try. If you do, please be sure to let our staff know during your stay if you have any questions or issues. We want to be sure you enjoy your time with us! I was charged a $270 deep cleaning fee of my room for smoking. I did not smoke within 20 feet of the room of my door. When I discussed with the manager, Ron, he told me that the smell of smoke "might have stuck to my clothes" and that the whole resort is non-smoking. Why are there cigarette butt receptacles scattered around the property then??? He said "maybe a previous guest had left it behind" LOL. That was obviously BS since they are industrial-grade receptacles. Never going back here, this has been worst customer service experience of my life. I feel like I've been robbed by Emerson, as there is ABSOLUTELY NO POSSIBLE REASON a deep cleaning of that room could have been warranted. Also, Naomi the CEO refused to answer multiple attempts to contact by phone or email.

Hello kachesle1!
Yes, our pool is heated and we anticipate opening the pool Memorial Day weekend. The pool is open to overnight hotel guests only. Our Spa hot tub is currently closed for maintenance, but should be reopening soon. If you have any other questions, please feel free to give us a call at 845-688-2828, option 0. Thank you!
Hi, thank you for choosing to stay with us at The Emerson. Our rooms do include hairdryers, as well as shampoo and conditioner. Unfortunately, we do not have bath salts available at this time. The front desk has coffee pods as well as tea and hot chocolate pods.
Thank You!
Just be clear and get in a printout all of your freebies and things you are paying for. I found when I had a problem, the assistants were taught to always refer issues to management and then management became unavailable for the rest of our stay. We were very disappointed. Facility was pleasant
Great place. Has a spa. Restaurants which are very good. Sking nearby. Woodstock really close. Would definitely stay there again. Great restaurants near resort too. So is Kingston and Albany is not that far away. Recommended very highly.
