Truly gorgeous, everywhere you look. We had our nephew’s wedding this past weekend and it was wonderful. The staff was fabulous-shoutout to Morgan and Vengeance. The ceremony had the Hudson River as a backdrop, so lovely. Buttermilk was a perfect place to hold a wedding.

The room is charmingly decorated and the bed is so very comfortable. The bathroom is a good size, the showerhead should be a bit larger, but there was instant hot water, which was greatly appreciated after being soaked by rain. There is a fireplace in the room and after 15 minutes the fireplace shut off automatically, it would have been nice to be able to have it on for a longer period of time. The staff is friendly and helpful. Please note laundry service is limited, as staff goes home at 5pm.
My room was on the first floor and since this is a BB and there was a bit of noise from above, so if sensitive to noise maybe ask for a second floor room. My friend's room had a very small TV, whereas my room had a more normal size TV.

My husband and I stayed at Buttermilk this past autumn but could only get a room in the Inn. No cottages were available at that time. When I read (I joined the Inn's email list) that they were reopening after the NYS on PAUSE with a ton of precautions in place to keep their guests safe, I knew we had to reserve the North Cottage. This charming two-bedroom, one-bathroom refuge is nestled in a forested part of the property far from the main Inn and Henry's restaurant, past the llamas, donkeys, chicken and peacock enclosures. It has a back deck that overlooks the Hudson River. When we first arrived, there was no grill out back and we live in an apartment and had really been looking forward to grilling. My husband shared this with an Innkeeper and the next morning it arrived like magic. This place really is magic and the people, who work here, manage the grounds and care for the flora and fauna, are filled with gracious hospitality. Definitely splurge on the North Cottage if you can -you will not regret it!

I would not recommend this inn as there is a lack of management experience and engagement and a cost/quality mismatch.
Great:
• Spectacular grounds, landscaping, and natural setting
• Pleasant but unseasoned hospitality staff
Off the mark:
• Management: The innkeeper and GM were either absent (GM) or avoided engaging with guests in a customer-friendly way (innkeeper). So good luck w/ a request (or, more seriously, an emergency) that requires management input.
• Deceptive practices: There is a 10% "resort fee" added although there is NO mention of this fee during the booking process. Their fee is based on the cost of your room, so, those in more expensive rooms pay more for the exact same services for which others pay much less.
• Spa: The spa has been under "renovation" for over a year even though there was no sign of any renovations happening. Typical spa amenities were not available, time allotted for spa services was cut by 10 minutes (for sanitation) but fees were not. It is a scaled-down spa experience with full pricing. Not to mention that our spa appts were canceled as the temporary location had no heat.
• General maintenance: both of our accommodations required updating and significant maintenance. Pulls for curtains didn't work, shower curtain rods weren't secure, water pressure in showers was weak, etc.
• Technology: the technology in the rooms (tv, sound systems, etc.) is woefully out of date. TVs are not "smart" and after hours of trying to connect to the WIFI to use the Roku, we simply gave up.
Throughout the stay, there was constant frustration due to invisible service and maintenance of this facility. The rates are WAY too high for the level of service and accommodations.

Response from Alex M, Other at Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa
Responded 24 Aug 2022
Hi Melanie! I am saddened to see that you had any less than a 5 star experience! We strive to provide every guest a positive experience they won't forget. We apologize for the inconvenience with the spa, as it is still under construction to enhance and provide an even better service for our guests. I will speak to the management team to ensure that our pricing properly reflects the services provided. The resort fees and taxes are added at checkout. Before clicking checkout, the booking page will give you the total, "before any applicable fees and taxes". The next screen will show you the grand total. I will make sure to inform our maintenance team of the issues you had with your room to ensure they are fixed and will not happen again! We sincerely hope to see you again and allow us the chance to change your mind and give you the 5 star experience you deserve!

My daughter, granddaughter, sister, niece, & I were looking forward to girls mini-vacation. Since we had enjoyed staying at Buttermilk Falls Inn on many occasions including my daughters rehearsal dinner a few years prior felt it was the perfect getaway. Unfortunately right from making the reservation through checking out we were disappointed. We only required 3 bedrooms but were forced to rent the entire Riverknoll house because the property could not be rented separately because of COVID-19 at a cost of $1400 a night. We decided to go ahead since we were splitting the cost. One of the bedrooms was unusable as the air conditioning vent was making so much noise it was impossible to sleep, this was reported to the front desk where we were promised it would be corrected while we were out for the day, upon returning we assumed it was fixed but that was not the case again the noise was so great making sleeping, impossible. That second night/early am we were awoken with a banging noise coming from the pipes in a utility closet, CJ the general manger came to inspect the cause after sometime finding it was the sprinkler system piping. She turned off the water. The shabby conditions of the furnishings and outside decking do not warrant such an exorbitant fee. I have contacted the general manager twice by phone as well as by email without a response as I am requesting either a credit or partial refund without so much as a phone call. This treatment of a repeat customer is absolutely unacceptable as my family and I have been huge supporter s of the business and expected better.

For my 50th Birthday we had planned to do have 17 members of my family enjoy a celebratory dinner at Henry’s on the Farm. One of the houses on the property was booked to allow the members who lived faraway to stay overnight, enjoy the complimentary breakfast, and relax with a spa treatment prior to returning home the next day. Alex and Kara manages events at the Buttermilk Inn & Spa. They did an impeccable job. Alex recommended to use the Inns dining space to keep the party intimate, and allow for it to be decorated an hour in advance of our reservation. A Chef prefix menu was printed and placed at each place setting. Kara assisted during the decorating process to make sure everything was perfect and that service ran smoothly, while always being kind and courteous. Dinner was fabulous and everyone enjoyed their appetizers, salads, and entrees. We did not enjoys the restaurant’s dessert since we had brought our own birthday cake. We stayed at the Riverbirch House, which has 4 spacious bedrooms each having a king bed and an in suite bathroom. The house was clean, comfortable, and well appointed. The next morning the guests enjoyed a short stroll to the Inn for breakfast. The grounds are meticulously cared for. Breakfast offered Frittata, Pecan Waffles, or Eggs. All were yummy. If you didn’t want the hot breakfast items bagels, English muffins, baked muffins, granola, yogurt, and etc were offered. The individuals who booked a spa treatment enjoyed them and some loved their treatment so much that they made a future appointment. All in all the whole experience was top notch. Thank you to all the Buttermilk Inn team members who made this the best 50th Birthday!!!

Buttermilk Falls Inn & Spa was referred to us 10 years ago from friends that typically stay at the St. Regis & Four Seasons. Management has apparently changed quite a few times since then and these same friends would NEVER have recommended this place after our experience this weekend.  The grounds are beautiful  and the rooms are nice and clean.  However, it was more DIY (Do It Yourself).  The website HOME PAGE states "Buttermilk Falls Inn is welcoming overnight guests again! Our beautiful alternate Spa facility is taking appointments while our original Spa is closed for renovation.  Henry’s at the Farm restaurant is open for socially distant in-house dining."Â
The Reality: On Monday, we were only able to book a massage in spa-like place each and there were NO spa facilities to even use. AND, the spa was closed Tuesday and Wed, which was when we were there. Henrys was closed Tuesdays and Wednesdays as well. There was seemingly limited seating at the bar, and we later realized that it was a staffer  just chillaxing on 2 stools there! We could not even get a bottle of water as the front desk told us they ran out and to go to the dining room where some of the staff were relaxing at the end of the night after the place had closed. The waitress at the restaurant for breakfast was excellent despite the fact that they ran out of many items in the kitchen.Â
Housekeeping: There was absolutely no housekeeping; not even fresh towels, emptying our garbage or asking us if we needed anything.
Our advice: Manage your expectations. This is literally a room with breakfast included.

The room price, with taxes and "resort fee", was $483.20/night for two nights. A resort, this is NOT. I'd say the room was worth, best case, $83.20/night. This was nothing short of highway robbery, and for the value, was the worst hotel/inn I've ever stayed in. The room was generally unclean, the windows were filthy, the shower was barely a trickle, the lighting in the room was awful (not to mention several burnt out bulbs), the fuse for the hair dryer blew literally every 10 seconds, the bathroom was in a state of disrepair, the service was non-existent, the room was on a second floor which meant we had to carry our suitcases up about 15 steps, the bed was creaky, and the promised breakfast was delayed (because of horrible service) by more than an hour. I cannot say a single positive thing about this place. Save your money and stay anywhere else. ANYwhere else.

We spent 3 nights there in 2021 and had a wonderful time; I gave a 5 star review. However, these past few months have made me do a total 180 about the property. I started calling in March to see about booking a 3 night long weekend for the family in one of the two houses they have (one 4BR, one 5BR); it is very expensive but we had such a good time last year, were willing to pay the premium. I was told that they "hold" the rooms for weddings, so could not release until 30 days prior. After numerous (at least 15) calls and being told different things at different times, I was finally told that it was 90% that we could do 7/8-7/11; keep in mind that we all had to put in for days off from work Friday & Monday). I called today, 6/2, since it is now about 30 days out and was told, oh, I am sorry, but it was booked by the wedding. I was furious; keep in mind that I had to call them, they did not even have the courtesy to call me, despite the fact that my name was at the front desk. They should just say they are a wedding venue and that is it. I had to practically beg them to take my money, which by the way, would have come to over $5K. I will never go there again nor will I recommend, just the opposite. Very poorly run and no respect for customers, let alone returning ones, which should be valued rather than treated so poorly.

The moment I made the reservation with my husband to the last minute of our experience surpassed every expectation! Mickey helped choose our room while making the reservation and her suggestions during the stay were so helpful too. If you’re looking for a couples getaway, girl’s weekend or just an escape from NYC, this is the spot to be! The dinner at Henry’s was fantastic, the breakfasts were delicious, and the tea and treats from a local bakery were a perfect touch in the afternoons. Ray was also extremely helpful with advice selecting activities or nearby towns to explore. The grounds were fun to walk around and everyone we met was super friendly. We would go back in a heartbeat!

The two nights I was there, noise wasn't an issue, you might request the second floor room. I did hear some footsteps, but it was minor.
Yes , albeit a late reply . They do !
