We discovered a gem in the Eastern Cape. Beautiful surroundings, lovely, clean (and affordable) accommodation and great food. Charlie and Estee welcomed us like family and were always ready with contacts, tips and advice on what to do. Even though beaches were closed, there was plenty to do. The breathtaking views are spectacular ... totally unspoilt. We loved it!!
The room was very good, although the pillows were a bit hard and the TV was tiny. Everyone was very friendly. The bar is nice. The restaurant service was good and the food was excellent. The pool was immaculate. The brick buildings at the bottom, near the river, are subtly semi-detached - next door's front door is at the opposite side of yours, so it's not immediately apparent. Unfortunately, our neighbours in the other half were late-nighters who continued chatting and playing music until the early hours and we could hear every word!
We recently stayed there for a weekend. From the moment we arrived we were met with great friendly service. Our room was adequate, very clean with a great view off the brown river slowly flowing past. It was used as a place to hang our heads after we had explored Port St Johns and surrounds - it was ideal. The first night the TV didn't work, not that we were going to watch it. The moment we reported it to reception the next morning Vanessa was there to try and sort it out. Unfortunately it was a faulty remote. But no problem we were soon given a manual option to watch if we needed to. Breakfasts were fine, cooked by Vanessa - nothing lacking! What ever we asked for we got with great smiles from the staff. We didn't try the restaurant but the menu looked great. Truly highly recommended!…
Service with a SMILE & a personal touch. Assistance where needed & going beyond what is required. After driving many km's, not wanting to drive into town to shop, assistance with dinner groceries for our own bbq was no trouble. Great fun, fishing & food was had by all!!!
Wow! What can I say about this venue? We only stayed one night and really wished to have stayed longer. Unfortunately we were on a pre-planned road trip which, with bookings already made, could not alter our programme. This is truly a lovely lodge with such a lot to offer. The river frontage is really special and the accommodation was the highlight of my entire trip. I can fully recommend staying here especially if you have young ones accompanying you. If you are interested in water sports, fishing, hiking and being close to nature, this is the place for you. A definite must! Dining at the restaurant was also fantastic.
