We (2 adults and 2 children , ages 5 and 8) stayed for 3 nights at The Kraal. We really enjoyed it, the hospitality of Bevan was great and the food was excellent. The view was exceptional, so awesome to sit and watch the dolphins every day! The beach and river was also beautiful. The only negative aspect was that my wife didn't like it that there wasn't a basin close to our rondavel ;) Note: the road is quite bad.
The place is beautiful and truly off the grid. We drove here from Port Saint Johns and the warning on the website about the roads is hardly a warning- by the time we made it we though for sure we would have four flat tires or get stuck in a mud puddle. I do not recommend trying to get there without a high sitting vehicle with all wheel drive. Once we did get there the host Dillon was very gracious and funny. He is also an excellent cook. The roosters and dogs will wake you up, however it is a wonderful place to nap during the day. The rock pools around the area were fun to explore and a woman from the village made us a traditional meal that was delicious.
Dillon, our host, run The Kraal Backpacker's on the same principles as an eco-lodge. He does it just so much better than most. I believe it is his deep love and respect for the environment. For animals, children and people. (More or less in that order?) What to expect for your stay? -Got there in a Polo, like D said we would. -Spotlessly clean and cosy huts / chalets -Shared, Well equipped, kitchen. -Spaza shop stocked with the very basic. The Kraal is of the grid. COMPLETELY. So bring headlight for night reading. Led solar lights is perfect for toilet visits. Dillon thanks for sharing your homestead with us. We had a blast.
I loved my stay here, the only problem was I did not stay long enough . Next time I will definitely stay longer. Beautiful surroundings and friendly people. It is off the grid and nothing close by so come prepared .
Very beautiful location, relaxing location, with a very beautiful view of the ocean specially early in the morning during the sunrise. Very calm beach right next to the hostel. The owner also cooked very great with fresh local vegetable, see food and meet :)
