The Lodge on the Beach, is a guest house situated right on the beach and probably the closest you will get anywhere along the Wild Coast. There are three rooms at The Lodge on the Beach, all of which are sea facing overlooking the length of Second Beach, a rustic community consisting of three accommodation establishments, two quirky restaurants and a local shebeen. All rooms, the large shaded veranda and the braai area have magnificent views of the ocean, lagoon and forest with 'The Gap and Blowhole' in the background and Bulolo River and Lagoon at your doorstep. Each room has a small sundeck and private bathroom which is not en-suite. The Lodge on the Beach has a relaxed atmosphere and is most suitable for couples and small families who wish to be a stone's throw away from the ocean and lagoon. It is also a good place to start the 'Port St Johns to Coffee Bay Hike' from, as we are right at the beginning of this hike. The Lodge on the Beach is a bed and breakfast, and dinners can be provided on request. Local fishermen often provide seafood such as crayfish/lobster, fish, mussels and oysters which we prepare for guests. There is also a self-catering option where guests make use of the communal kitchen and braai area. There are also two restaurants namely the 'Delicious Monster' and 'Wood`n Spoon' which are within 50 meters of The Lodge on the Beach. Once at The Lodge on the Beach there are many things to do without driving anywhere which include relaxing on the beach or in the lagoon, fishing, walking through Silaka Nature Reserve to Third Beach, walk to 'The Gap and Blowhole', hiking to Bulolo Waterfall, and paddling up the Bulolo River.

DO NOT BOOK OR PAY until you have seen this DUMP. Absolute pathetic , no words could accurately describe this dump, they call accommodation. Filthy, dirty, stinking of dagga and cat pee from the time you enter the gate, if you can call it a gate. PARKING, Muddy ground, not suitable for parking. If you are going to smoke dagga you need to advertise this. Worst accommodation ever, would not stay here even if offered for FREE. I slept in my clothes on top of my clothes, the place was so dirty. I would not dare bath, eat or do anything in the filth. As per other reviews BADLY misrepresented advertising by obviously dishonest beings. They should be ashamed of themselves advertising this dump as accommodation, after a long day traveling, you want to bath/shower in a clean bath/shower and relax in a clean environment , not sit in a dirty, stinky room.

We stopped off here for a night while on a slow, meandering road trip from Pietermaritzburg to Cape Town. This house has a wonderful position at the end of the road right on 2nd Beach Port St Johns. The view is magnificent. In the day there was the lagoon, golden sand and crashing waves, at night a pink full moon rising over the sea. There's a great restaurant (The Delicious Monster) close by where we ate fresh fish that night. We had a cold beer at the Wood n Spoon next door and chatted to some residents. The atmosphere was relaxed and we had a happy, albeit brief stay. The bed was comfortable, the sheets clean, the shower water hot and the vibe good. We felt we'd had a pleasant experience and met interesting people. The approach to the house is a bit run down, along a bumpy dirt track past some houses that have seen better days. 2nd beach is also a few km out of the town. Neither worried us - we liked the remoteness. Also, the rooms are not en suite - we had a private bathroom just across the passage, which was clean and the water was hot. I guess it's all about what you are looking for - we like rustic places. If you're after 5 star luxury, this is not the place for you.

What an utter disgrace. Booked based on the lovely pictures advertised. I am so sorry I wasted my hard-earned money and few leave days to book two nights at this place. Please rather book somewhere else people

My husband and I saw pictures of this place which looked amazing - right on the beach! When we got there we realized that the beach was the only positive. The room was not en suite as it appeared in the photo, the bathroom was a walk down a corridor. It was like a university digs there were random people and noise everywhere - a huge drinking fest/braai/ beating of drums was going on. I sat on the bed and after a few minutes realized the sheet was wet in patches!!!!! After some investigating we realized the mattress was soaked!!!!! And smelt awful! After calling the owner from the braai, she gave us towels and blankets to put over and said “ah man my friend stayed over last night I’m going to kill him”!!!!! It was too late for us to leave so we layered towels and blankets over what was presumably a urine soaked mattress and literally fled in the morning!!! The owner really had a good heart and even offered some money back but really it was quite a horrific experience :(

We were meant to stay at this lodge on 9 June 2018 since we had a booking for the night. On approaching or should I say fighting our way through the bush on a gravel road to this place we realised that things are not right. To say the least I was embarrased and fealt dirty when entering the property - this place is well below anybody's standard. I would not put my dog up in a place like that, scrap cars, scrap metal, house is a sub standard structure, weads etc etc. You guy' must avoid this place at .all costs, iI do not know where they have taken the pictures but boy o boy this place is a disgrace from the outside. It is toxic. Naas 0833140518
