What an absolute gem after the Gauteng cold! Dip your toes (whole body) in the warm Indian Ocean after a long and cold journey and you could quite easily think you are in paradise. A warm welcome awaits you on arrival and you are introduced to the very comfortable rooms. Typical of the coastal lifestyle is a verandah to every room. Surrounded by the coastal flora you can soak up the sound of the ocean. Food is next door. WiFi is free. The owner is a very interesting man with a wealth of knowledge of the area. Truly, I am going back there for this unique experience
I had the most wonderful stay at Outspan In. You get a warm welcome and the rooms are well kept, clean and tidy. The best is falling out of bed and walking through the beautiful gardens directly onto the Umzimvubu River mouth beach for a breath of fresh sea air or to watch a sunrise. One of the owners, John Costelo, personally took us around and shared the highlights of the area with us. These experiences and places I will carry in my heart always. It's a wonderful place to stay and I highly recommend it.
We stayed at the Outspan Inn last week. The room was comfortable and clean. The staff were very friendly. The garden is a bird watchers paradise. Their back gate takes you through a Sandy path to the river. We loved it and will be back soon.
We stayed there for only one night and it was ok. The main rooms near the Pool are better but more expensive of course. We had the flat next to the restaurant and it was very noisy. Internet is weak and the facilities are rather poor. But considering Port St Johns they all need a razzmatazz to clean the village and get visitors back. The landscape is spectacular though. Hope they get the turn
Really old shabby and dirty.if ur there just to fish and only using the ficility to sleep.its fine.definitly not for a family vacation.nice accomodation there would be purple indigo and river lodge.small town ...with welcoming and wonderfull people
Great conference facility and friendly, organised staff. Recently made use of the conference facility at Outspann Inn for a public meeting. It had all the necessary facilities and friendly, helpful staff.
Dear Kathrin and staff Thank you for a lovely holiday. It could not have been better, we loved our stay with you. from the moment we arrived Jackie took care of us. Thanks also for warning us about not swimming in the sea at Port St Johns, your pool was a truly a bonus. The kids hardly got out of it while we were there. Nick thoroughly enjoyed being able to walk to your beach, i loved chilaxing there while the kids built that enormous sandcastle. I shall send photos! Please thank Monica for the impromptu tour she took us on, she is so clued up on the history of the area. The restaurant on the premises was great too. That lime and prawn wrap is my favorite dish now. We will be back soon! xxxxxxx Love to all, regards Sarah Williamson
Its an old self catering and b&b establishment which doesn't seem to be very busy. Very handy to steve's bar and restaurant right next door for dinner, also where you get the included breakfast. The furniture, decor etc are all old and tired which would be ok but frankly it's just plain dirty....the rooms and bathrooms. The staff are lovely however, but i wouldn't stay here again.... in fact avoid Port St Johns totally is my advise.
If you passing thru great place to stop and enjoy the locals Well priced and great service friendly staff right on the beach and close to all the major centers. Comfortable room with DSTV as well as self catering offered.
I tour South Africa every 3 years from Canada. This year marked my 4th visit to Port St Johns and another stay at The Outspan Inn. How do I love this place? Let me count the ways. Kathryn, with support from John, as well as their perennial friendly staff provide the perfect place to stay. The price is very reasonable and we loved our self catering cottage amidst leafy quiet surroundings. "Steve's Place", a friendly pub restaurant with good food, is right next door. We had everything one could want: clean rooms, comfortable beds, multi-channel TV, and a well equipped kitchen. We also liked being in a community where there were no tall buildings, no corporate signs [apart from KFC] and no feeling of being different even though 98% of the local population are black. The Outspan has secure parking, a beautiful garden and a decent sized pool. Nearby are spectacular views and wonderful walks and beaches. I just love it here and I look forward to my next visit.…
