Bom Bom is amazing!! The bungallows are involved in nature. Really beautiful and peaceful! They have a parrot and a dog that is the right company for a walk on the beach. Everything is wonderful, but the hotel needs to renovate some details ( see pictures of some small details that doesn’t match the rest of the hotel. The breakfast is good but since there are só much tropical fruits in São Tomé e Príncipe we were expecting a large offer ( they had pineaplle, papaya and orange ). The room has few ilumination. You can try several nauticalsports. They have a nurse too.…
My stay on Bom Bom Principe was a long series of incredible moments in an environment so uniquely Principe. This island is unique in so many ways and holds several endemic species of flora and fauna, some of which I had several encounters with. The hotel catered to all my needs and provided excursions high and low, letting me in on so many wonders of the island an its flora and fauna. The Bom Bom Islet on which I enjoyed all my meals was in itself a fungi heaven during my October visit. I encountered so many incredible mushroom species, some of which I would not be surprised are endemic, this is after all an island in the middle of the ocean, albeit with a link to Africa. I had many wonderful photo shoots in the forest of this islet. I also really enjoyed the daily walks over to the restaurant as it provided beautiful views of the sea and mountains of the south of the island. The hotel is very animal friendly, and I loved how the manager had adopted a poor dog (just a puppy when it happened) with decapitated hind legs by some locals. Every day this lovely and friendly dog would walk along the beach with a wagging tail and lie down on his favorite spot. The sand is after all a relief to his leg-stumps, which he would never have access to had he be left where he was injured, by the village inland. The dog radiated joy and happiness, which is incredible considering his handicap. He would also fend off other more powerful dogs, so that was fun to watch. The hotel is also well aware of all thing conservation and how to educate and share with locals and visitors alike, which is so important as this island is a treasure trove of rare species, but is so vulnerable to human impact. I loved how the grey parrot could appear to be a mascot, as this species is such a trafficked bird species, being driven to extinction from region after region in Africa. But here it is very different. She is a widow, who has never again paired up with a new mate, but instead found solace in staying on the property in which she once raised chicks. She comes and goes as she pleases, and will approach you if she chooses to. Often she sits by the entrance looking at the people coming and going. She is free, and that is really lovely to see and how it should be. On one of my excursions I experienced a humpback jump – the very first of my life - and it was such a loud boom – just incredible. I had many wonderful excursions around the island, on it and to one of the waterfalls which are so amazing during the wet season, as well as to the neighboring Caroco islet. The hotel includes the locals as guides, which is really great, both to create a source of income for the locals but, also to create a sense of value of the natural world that needs protecting. I strongly recommend you bring euros, as things change slowly here and the cash machines likely still have not been set up. During my visit even the staff had challenges with cash, and had to find cumbersome detours to transfer money. Principe is also more remote than Sao Tome, so bear that in mind. I did not bring any euros, and was very nervous on how that would go if I had to pay any for extra weight, but the staff was very helpful and I did not have any problems. I would also strongly recommend flying direct from Portugal if available, as any stop in Ghana or any other African country adds logistical uncertainty. TAP is a decent airline, but they do not fly direct, and I received several negative experiences from other travelers. TAP were also unwilling to give an answer as to whether or not the stopover required passing through immigration, which would require a visa for many. I stayed October 2017.…
My beautiful wife and I spent just three nights at Bom Bom and were both well happy with the result. A Bit of a walk to the restaurant for our meals and a fair few steps up to our room did make things a little energetic for me but in my view - well worth the panting. We had a view with a room high up over-looking the bay.... loved it. I am a bit of a birder and short walks around the grounds provided me with some interesting birds, even some endemic to the islands. I was provided with a bird guide who was very good and knew his stuff, a slight language problem as he spoke very little English and my spattered knowledge of Cantonese was of little use. However - our mutual love for the wildlife made up for that and I had an enjoyable, interesting couple of hours with him . My wife and I are both vegetarians, we experience no problems at this hotel, a chat with the very friendly and helpful manager insured that all went satisfactory so meal times passed with ease. All in all a lovely few days at this stunningly beautiful location, yes - a bit of tidying up the place was needed but perfection is an *out of bounds* goal wherever you stay. I would definitely recommend Bom Bom even tho' I think it's a bit of a silly name for a hotel. …
As you walk onto the island you are greeted by a sign that advertises a 'muito fácil' walk. I can tell you something, it definitely isn't. The walk took me about an hour. Some of which I was scrabbling up hills and going under incredibly dense vegetation. Good fun but I dread to think what the harder walks are like! Island is beautifully untouched and it is excellent to swim off the rocks. Be careful of the sea urchins though! Small restaurant/bar is on the island although prices were ££££.…
Location: Fantastic location and landscapes, nice secluded beach and nice sunset but... Service: Local staff tried always to be helpful doing its best to please us but some were lacking of training and/or supervision. Food: The food was good and well presented but having dinner in a small folding table where there is not enough space to put the bread basket and a bottle of wine at the same time does not help appreciate the experience. Bungalow: Our beachfront bungalow was quite basic (I would no give it more than 3 stars), partially furnished with furnitures from a famous Swedish brand, some furnitures damaged, no effort for the decoration and the bathroom was very tired really needing refurbishing (see photos). Furthermore, the AC was quite noisy, we had to switch it off at night to be able to sleep. Safe was not working, reception said none of them in the entire resort are operational. Scuba diving: A big problem we experienced and that ruined our stay was related to scuba diving and more precisely to the hotel PADI diving center. The goal of our trip to Bom Bom was scuba diving, and this activity was recommended by the reservation team in Lisbon sending a nice map of the diving sites. Our disappointment was huge when we arrived and discover that compressor was broken and boat out of order... so no scuba diving. We experienced the same problem at Sundy Praia (same hotel group) as the resort is dependent on Bom Bom PADI dive center. My recommendation is if you are thinking about scuba diving with one of this resorts, you better think twice. Stand Up Paddle: The boards were quite tired some broken and none of them had a keel making navigation quite difficult. Management: General Manager was inaccessible (hiding from guests/complaints?), he promised to discuss the situation with us but never showed-up. When I returned home I sent a complaint about the scuba diving fiasco to Booking.com. Bom Bom Principe had the nerve to state that its snorkelling and scuba diving activities were fully operational during my stay. Based on another guest review here-below, I was not the only one experimenting problems related to water sport activities at the same period. I let everyone make his/her own opinion about the resort's management ethics.…
