Alte Kalköfen Lodge is situated in a picturesque location surrounded by the breathtaking landscapes of Namibia. From the rugged mountains to the tranquil desert dunes, this lodge provides a front-row seat to the stunning beauty of nature. The opportunity to wake up to these awe-inspiring views is an experience that should not be missed.

The lodge, which is very attentive to detail and spotlessly clean, is located on the main road between Lüderitz and Keetmanshoop, about 100 km from Keetmanshoop. It is a day trip to Lüderitz and Kolmannskuppe. You sleep in one of the 10 or so houses, which are bright and friendly. The bedroom includes a shower or bathroom with a sink and a separate toilet, as well as an outside shower, coffee/tea making facilities, many other small and thoughtful details and - if required - air conditioning. Each house also has a private terrace with a view of a small waterhole. There is also a family house with a connecting door, where 2+2 people can stay overnight. You can also refresh yourself in the large and deep pool (1.75m), extra towels are provided in the room. If you want, you can book the really excellent dinner in addition to the bed and breakfast. We have now been here for 2 nights for the second time and the kitchen conjures up a great new selection every time. We can only recommend the friendly hosts and the peace and beauty of the lodge!

The whole experience was wonderful. We arrived late and the owners were already waiting for us and had prepared a delicious and very, very complete dinner. Salad, main course with meat, side dishes and mini quiches (very good), and even dessert. The food was homemade and I felt at home. The little house where we stayed was very charming, a mix of old and modern. The house was all painted white inside and had some very peculiar and unique details such as the sinks, the indoor shower. The beds were facing a window where there was an outdoor shower. And the best thing is early in the morning with daylight entering the house to see the animals so close by walking. I loved it and I recommend it!

You can have breakfast and dinner in a family atmosphere - but to a high standard. You can sit in front of your lodge and watch animals at the waterhole. There is the option of taking an outdoor shower - very refreshing when it's windy. The air conditioning tried to cool the lodge down - but since the sun was able to heat up the room unhindered in the afternoon through the glass surface of the outdoor shower, which could not be shaded, it was not sufficiently dimensioned.

At the recommendation of a friend, I included the lodge's campsite in our southern route. The whole area and the campsites were even more beautiful than expected. We were there early and were able to choose one of the 3 campsites and chose number 1. The campsite has a private bathroom with shower and toilet, which was built into a corrugated iron house. Everything is simple and functional, but very tastefully and lovingly decorated. But the corrugated iron house heated up very quickly at over 40 degrees in the shade. And the roof structure in front of it with bamboo tubes unfortunately only offered moderate shade. But since we were able to stay throughout the entire area and also use the pool, our stay here was very pleasant! The legendary succulent collection is also impressive. While having a sundowner on the lodge's terrace, we were able to observe some antelopes at the waterhole. In the morning, guinea fowl and springbok greeted us at the campsite. The whole staff was super friendly and helpful. We felt very comfortable here. A small downside at night: a generator made loud engine noise and unfortunately didn't let us sleep well. Nevertheless, a clear recommendation and we would be happy to come back.

We chose Alte Kalkofen Lodge as a stopover for our trip back to Windhoek, coming from Luderitz. We arrived very early but were given access to the rooms without hesitation. This allowed us to do the 3 km hike in the vicinity of the lodge. The rooms are generous with a verandah with a view to a watering hole where springbok can relax. Dinner and breakfast were excellent. The owners Frikkie and Hilde and staff were very kind and helpful. We can highly recommend this lodge as a stopover.

This lodge is in complete isolation and offers everything you need with very simple means. No fashionable frills, which don't fit in with Namibia anyway. Very nice people. The whole thing has a lot of charm. Good food and endless peace.

We were there as part of a tour and felt very comfortable. Great bungalow with a terrace overlooking a watering hole and desert/bushland. The bungalow was large, with air conditioning, outdoor and indoor shower, nicely furnished - we slept very well. WiFi worked everywhere on the property! The dinner and breakfast were delicious - the dining room was also perfectly furnished. Our hosts and all the staff were very helpful, courteous and very friendly. The tour of the lodge, the Lithops collection and the old lime kiln given by the host was extremely interesting. Perfect stay - we would come again.

We we’re pleasantly surprised when arriving, it has a very “homey” feeling to it. All the staff are friendly. Dinner was amazing and we were served by the owner, and his wife was the cook. It was the most delicious food we’ve had on our trip. While enjoying dinner on the stoep, springbuck came to drink some water at the nearby waterhole, we were also lucky enough to see their baby giraffes. The waterhole has a light so you can watch the animals from your room during the day or night, we saw Oryx during the night. Was very lovely.

This is a wonderful lodge in beautiful nature. The owners, caretakers and staff are top notch in making you feel welcome. The food is wonderful and tasty from breakfast to light meals and also three course dinners. The lithops research is fascinating also.

We spent two nights at "Bella" house in Alte Kalkofen Lodge. It was our base for exploring Keetsmanshoop area and surroundings. The Lodge is well maintained and it's got a nice character. Our house was very nicely decorated, spacious and bright. There was an outside shower but as it was cold we didn't use it. Beds were comfortable and our veranda, overlooking the fields was lovely. We were having our afternoon coffee, spending sometime drawing and enjoying golden hour and sunset. And especially afternoons are amazing there, as they are of course, everywhere in Namibia which is blessed with golden sunlight all day long.
Breakfast was amazing. Everything served was fresh, flavourful and plentiful. The girl in charge (pity, I forget the name) was taking good care of us and guided us with everything we needed. The dinners were also amazing. Food was so good and you could see the people there care for their guests. We met also the owners. The man was greeting us every morning asking if everything is ok and what were the plans for the day. We met his wife as well on the second afternoon and we had a long conversation with her. She is a big collector of lithops (succulent stone-like little plants) where you can admire at the nursery they have at the place. They are so beautiful and I suggest to spend some time visiting the nursery. Also, the owners have a beautiful cat! The mascots though of the place are the guineafowls! They were so many and so funny to observe! We spotted also a squirrel upon arrival. It was a very cute welcome. The only negative thing in our stay was the poor wi-fi connection, especially at our "Bella" house which is not very far from the main building area. This though was minimal comparing to the overall wonderful stay we had!
Alte Kalkofen is highly recommended if you want a base to explore the area or for an overnight stay if you are just passing by! It won't disappoint you!
