I have been to this place a few times, and each time I go there, I end up not staying there because first of all the reception staff and the management are all so rude and they are never welcoming at all. I have noticed that the management are very bious to race. I would recommend every one to rather stay at Lake kariba inns owned by a relation to the management of Lake safari but far more friendly and welcoming. Or else Eagle rest resort is also a better value for money than this horrible nightmare

Lake Safari Lodge is a nice place to stay in Siavonga just on the banks of Lake Kariba. Comfortable stay, clean & spacious rooms, good service, fresh food and a nice bar. A perfect place for an enjoyable stay by the lake side!

My husband and i stayed for two nights at the lodge. We arrived in the night and wondered if the lodge was as depicted on the website because we could not see much. In the morning we were greeted by the lake, the view is just so amazing, better than the pictures. The hotel staff and management were friendly,we really felt at home. The food is amazing, i forgot about my morning sickness, there was just so much to choose from for all 3 meals. Maybe one small thing to take into consideration offering mosquito nets especially for those who wish to travel with young ones. these need not be a permanent feature of the rooms because they may distort the beauty but they can be installed when guests request for them. Our stay was wonderful,we plan to take our son and some friends this year, simply loved it.

We didn't actually stay at lake safari lodge . We'd spent an enjoyable night at eagle rest at the other side of siavonga but decided to move on for a different view of the lake and due to the rather limited menu at eagle rest . First impressions of safari lodge were of a big slick hotel. The restaurant looked nice and overlooked the lake. I asked about rooms and was shown a sample of each type- hence being able to add this review.

I would say there is a big variation in the rooms but with little price difference. (All about $100). The family rooms overlooked the lake but were pretty tatty and in need of a refurb. There were two other types, I can't remember the terminology used , but these were newer but again in need of a lick of paint. There was little privacy in these too as they opened to a patio shared with your neighbours. The thing I remember most is that all the rooms had an enormous ( ie small cinema screen) plasma TV and things like shower cubicles with an in built radio. The hotel obviously prefers to spend money on ostentatious 'nice to haves' rather than focus on getting the basics right . I'd prefer a neat , clean plain room over a rather tatty hi- tech pleasure palace any day! We decided not to stay and went to lake kariba inns instead.

Thank you for your review. We are glad you enjoyed your stay at the other 2 great lodges in Siavonga. We have recently revised the classification of our rooms with current rates shown below. The Exchange rate is approximately: Kr 523 to $100 Our Rates including Breakfast are: Rondavels: Kr250 Single - Kr320 Double Deluxe: Kr400 Single - Kr550 Double Executive: Kr750 Single - Kr900 Double Unfortunately your visit in November was just prior to our considerable refurbishment of 16 rooms finishing just before Christmas in December 2012. In 2013 our plans are to focus on sustainability with the introduction of solar panels reducing our reliance on power from the grid for all our lighting, geysers, and other electrical appliances. I hope this helps, please definitely ask to see the rooms. We are very proud of them and happy to show them off.

I was there for business so my needs were more business needs. The conference facilities were terrible - stuffy; old and worn; etc. The internet connectivity was poor at best and expensive. Cost was about $20 for 100Mb download. This is a couple of skype calls and 1 email download of MS Office. Snacks during the conference were always late; and the quality was inconsistent. Food in general was extremely expensive - everything is $20. So if you want a buffet - it will cost $20. If you want a small side salad and not the buffet - it will cost $20. I had a couple of bad food incidences - including fish that tasted "off". I told the chef and they told me that the bite I had must have been a bad tasting portion.
As for the rooms, the management was obviously trying to save on electricity bills. Rooms had insufficient lighting - which made preparation during the evenings impossible. There were also no mosquito nets (which I got malaria as a result of) - and when the staff were asked if they had mosquito nets at home they replied "of course".
Billing was the biggest issue. Preparation of the bills took several hours. Which delayed our departure by atleast 2.5 hours. Not great when you are trying to return to Lusaka before peak hour traffic hits the city.
I eventually moved hotels; and even though I checked out mid-afternoon; after days of complaining about having no internet and days of being told it would be fixed tomorrow - I still had to pay the room for that evening.
BTW - the gym is under refurbishment. The second pool is empty. And wheel chair access involves the staff picking up your wheel chair and carrying it upstairs - which I am not sure is what is anticipated when someone sees that a location is wheel-chair accessible.

As the Owner and Managing Director of Lake Safari Lodge I was shocked to read that you had a bad experience with us. I thank you for taking the time to write a review and I have listed all your points to give you feedback, express our apologies and also express how we are going to rectify these points of concern. Gym: Complaint: The gym is under refurbishment Reply: I do understand your point of not having a gym available. I did explain that the gym was under construction at the time. We now have a fully refurbished and operational Gym. Internet: Complaint: The internet connectivity was poor at best and expensive. Cost was about $20 for 100Mb download. This is a couple of Skype calls and 1 email download of MS Office. Reply: Our price for internet reflects the costs of internet in Zambia unfortunately. Our connection is cheaper than what you will pay a cell phone company per megabyte of internet, we subsidies the connection for our clients as best we can. We do give free internet coupons on request for business clients staying in our gold wing rooms. Food: Complaint: I had a couple of bad food incidences - including fish that tasted "off". I told the chef and they told me that the bite I had must have been a bad tasting portion. Reply: In regards to the food, guests may choose between a la carte or Buffet if Buffet is available that day. For the full buffet $20 is a bargain as you get 4 different meat dishes (chicken, beef, fish and pork) 4 different carbohydrate dishes (plain rice, spiced rice, nshima, potatoes) ,3 different salads and 3 different puddings. Every meals quality is controlled by me and I take great pride in making sure that the choice, freshness and flavors are exquisite. You would have seen me sampling all the food at every meal to make sure our quality is kept up to standard. Our Fish is always freshly caught, I apologize if you received an off tasting fish, sometimes we receive fish with a slightly muddy taste and we generally take don’t but unfortunately we can’t taste every fish. On the idea that our fish was “off” insinuates it was “Rotten”, I can guarantee you that your cold chain on our food products are kept up to the highest standards. I am very sorry that you had a bad experience with this. Rooms: Complaint: As for the rooms, the management was obviously trying to save on electricity bills. Rooms had insufficient lighting - which made preparation during the evenings impossible. There were also no mosquito nets (which I got malaria as a result of) - and when the staff were asked if they had mosquito nets at home they replied "of course". Reply: I found out thanks to you that the whole block of rooms are not adequately lit. I am addressing this problem. As to the Mosquito Nets.. I am quite confident you didn’t get malaria from Lake Safari Lodge for a number of reasons, one is that we don’t have the type of mosquito that carries malaria around our premises, buy since this can’t be proved, I will look into mosquito netting for our clients. Conference Facilities: Complaint: The conference facilities were terrible - stuffy; old and worn; etc. Reply: I can’t be sure out of our 2 conference centres which one you worked in so I took the time to go and experience the working environment in both Centre and found them both up to standard. I apologies if on the day you were here our standards were a little lower than expected. Billing: Complaint: Billing was the biggest issue. Preparation of the bills took several hours. Which delayed our departure by at least 2.5 hours. Not great when you are trying to return to Lusaka before peak hour traffic hits the city. Reply: I have personally inquired into the late preparation of bills and will rectify this issue. Wheel Chair Access: Complaint: Wheel chair access involves the staff picking up your wheel chair and carrying it upstairs Reply: Although we do have wheelchair friendly rooms, these include rooms with sits-baths specially for people with wheelchairs, we don’t advertise that we are wheelchair accessible as we have stairs up to our restaurant deck. If there is any advert stating we are wheelchair accessible please let me know so I can rectify this. We often accommodate Clients that come in wheelchairs and we are working on a viable solution to get clients up to our restaurant. Thank you again for your review, I will work with my staff to improve the overall customer experience. Thanks for your time to write us a review; any criticism we get is welcome so that we can improve beyond expectations. Best Regards, Maurice Diamond Managing Director Lake Safari Lodge

The Lake Safari Lodge is quite a nice place to stay. I stayed here for three days and found it wonderful. The Kariba lake view is especially beautiful. Getting a glimpse of it every now and then right from your lodge room is quite refreshing. The bar was nice. I spent some great time by the pool and had other entertainments like boat riding at the lake and working out at the gym. I went on the boat rides for twice, for the view was great. Since I had my own vehicle, the free parking lot at this hotel was of great use. The restaurant at this lodge serves hot and freshly prepared delicious foods. One will not regret staying at this hotel.

I spent three unforgettable nights at Lake Safari. I absolutely fell in love with the place. One can spend hours on the lawn or by the lake shore gazing into the distance. The breakfast is one to-die-for. The rooms are comfortable, clean and homey.

We arrived for lunch. Because there are not many possibilites in vicinity, we welcomed the nice lake view. Here the positive balance stops. We orderd food. We were the only guests! After 20 minutes waiter came to tell us that they actually do not have stater which he siad they have had. Then we were waiting another hour! Then they brought the most disgusting, totally dry and apparently long time frozen before, piece of fish and chicken. Waiter almost never showed up during our waiting. Avoid this restaurant.
