A big Thank You to all at Baines River Camp, Lower Zambezi, on our recent 25th Anniversary trip. Baines is situated along a tranquil stretch of river, & is a very well-run camp with well trained, friendly staff catering to your every need. We enjoyed a personal late afternoon to evening 'sunset boat' trip down river to watch ellies drinking & bathing, listen to the hippo snorting & watch crocodiles cruising upriver. We enjoyed excellent meals overlooking the river, along with a good selection of drinks from the bar. Our Hostess packed us a scrumptious picnic for our 'self-drive' day out into the National Park. Coffee & home backed biscuits watching the game grazing in an ebony grove, followed by cold salads & chicken lunch along with choice of chilled drinks, watching across the open plains gave us a great day out. We then headed back to a relaxing late afternoon in our very comfortable chalet. Our last supper was again delicious, well served & enjoyed with good wine. We certainly relaxed & charged our batteries, even on this short visit. During breakfast on our last day the staff even washed our dusty vehicle - now that's service! Baines River Camp has a great Team, thanks again.

My husband and I joined a group of 7 people who were fishing and watching the wonderful wildlife in this area. We stayed 8 nights at Baines and we absolutely loved it. It is really comfortable and the staff can’t do enough for you. There are 8 suites and a cottage with two bedrooms and a dining and living area. We were allocated the cottage for just the two of us. V lucky! The food was delicious. Different every lunchtime and evening, with lots of fresh meat, veg and fruit. The atmosphere was really relaxed and we were able to be v flexible about what we wanted to do and when. Most of our party fished most days, catching many double-figure tiger fish, as well as other types of fish. I don’t fish but went on some truly memorable game drives, both on land and water, with some friendly and highly knowledgeable guides. We saw everything from elephants to egrets and, on one drive, I counted more than 25 species of animals and birds. We even saw elephants, hippos, baboons and monkeys in the grounds of the lodge, right near to where we were eating and sleeping. On our last evening, we went into the bush for dinner, which I will never forget. The Baines team worked so hard to give us a wonderful meal at a fully laid table, and also built a bonfire for us to sit around. I really can’t praise the lodge and its team more highly. It was the trip of a lifetime and I’d highly recommend Baines to anyone who is lucky enough to visit Zambia.

We had a wonderful week at Baines River Camp. Really luxurious, large, room. The food was very nice indeed - and lots (too much if anything) of it. Very pleasant and helpful management and staff. The guided drives, and walking safaris, were excellent with really good animal sightings. Only suggestion is that the night drives should be taken a bit slower so that there is more chance to see, and photograph, animals.

We had a wonderful time at Baines. The service was fantastic. Stephan and the staff were amazing and took excellent care if us. The rooms are beautiful and spacious. We were lucky enough to see 4 lions on our game drive. We were not so lucky with the fishing though.

My wife and I stayed at Baines River Camp for 3 nights at the end of June, 2023. It was the second camp in an amazing 2-week safari trip To Zambia. In short...this was a great experience! The most luxurious of the camps we stayed at...here are some details. To start, we flew in a 6-seater plane from Lusaka to a small landing strip (Royal “airport”). Normally an 11-seater or larger plane, but this was a fun adventure (I held the refreshments cooler on my lap during the flight. The "airport" is in the “buffer zone” between the Lower Zambezi National Park and people – where elephants were walking on the side of the air strip and the “check-in” person had a desk under a tree (not kidding – so cool). We had a larger plane on the return – about 16 seats. Driving up, Baines immediately makes a great impression (a set of steps down into an oasis of luxury with beautiful views and spaces to sit an relax along the mighty river). Our cabin was #8 (farthest away from the lodge - maybe 250 meters - but some elephants were on the grounds when we arrived, so we set our bags down and took a sunset cruise while we waited for access to our cabin (again, so cool). Mario made us drinks and snacks on the boat. The sunset cruise was SOOOO relaxing (Baines is across the river from Manna Pools National Park and we floated along that shore as seven giraffes walked in and out of view). We got to our cabin - VERY NICE - the private outdoor shower was really nice (there was an indoor option too). After dark, you must be accompanied along the path, and we arranged a time to be picked-up after unpacking and cleaning up. Well, the elephants returned...and were around our cabin (right off our porch - see the pictures). We got to dinner and it was fabulous. We sat by the fire each evening and talked with other people staying from all over the world. We boated to the park for jeep safaris in the mornings (watching the sun rise over the river) and saw a lot of wildlife along the shores and in the park. The leopard in the tree was a highlight. In the afternoons, we tried Tiger fishing and caught one – it’s really a lot like a sunset cruise – just relaxing and drifting while holding a pole (and a beer/wine). During our stay, in addition to the elephants, we were greeted by hippos and a family of warthogs grazing along our cabin and baboons that threw our patio cushions and pillows all over the grounds while we were at lunch. The time of year was perfect (a cool 50 at night and a pleasant 80 during the days). No bugs either (though we did use bug repellant each day). We kept our windows open, to hear the hippos at night, but the cabin had climate control to help with temperature extremes. Very high marks to Stephan and Zena - we enjoyed talking to them each evening along with the other guests. Thanks again...

This is a beautiful ‘camp’ in a beautiful setting on the Zambezi. We stayed in chalets which were spacious and well appointed, with comfortable beds. Game drives were excellent with knowledgeable guides and comfortable jeeps. The sunset cruise on the Zambezi was a lovely experience. Food was plentiful and good with perhaps an over emphasis on meat. The swimming pool was small and shaded for most of the afternoon and didn’t look inviting. Guides escorted us to and from our chalet between 6pm and 6am as the grounds are not fenced off. Monkeys daily threw around the cushions on the verandah. I have stayed in many safari camps and the one thing preventing me from giving 5 stars here was the rather stilted, formal atmosphere
