From the first moment we arrived, we knew we had come to a truly special place. Surrounded by nothing but mountains, water and bush, this is what it means to get away from it all. There is nothing the staff can't do for you, and their own love for the lodge, their local area and its wildlife and natural habitat is clear to see. We ate like Queens - the food is incredible, and so plentiful! - had so many wonderful outings into the bush and on the river with our wonderful guide Wallace and spotter Peter, and relaxed like we never have before in our beautiful lodge and the comfortable, well designed communal areas. This is a place where you can just let the world disappear and truly immerse yourself in nature - the animals are plentiful and all around, quite literally - we had a family of elephants join us when sunbathing around our plunge pool, and a cute hippo who spent all day camped outside our lodge - and the drives out into the two game park areas/outings on the boat down the Zambezi were magnificent in showing us a huge variety of animals in their natural habitat, including lions and leopards. The lodge does a lovely job of providing variety to guests - we had two wonderful communal bush dinners under the stars with our lovely fellow guests, and a night where we were treated to some traditional music - as well as a special floating lunch on the river, which was so magical. As vegetarians, we were catered for exceptionally well, with the chef really going the extra mile to provide us with something different and delicious at every meal. Everything has been thought about at Royal with such care and consideration for guests and their comfort and opportunity to make the most of this glorious part of the world, and I think we probably could have stayed forever. We'll be back!

Such an amazing lodge. Beautiful rooms catering to your every need and more, from bathrobes to personalized water bottles. Traveling as a family of 4 all our needs were met with cots setup in the room, bottles boiled and washed for us . The most friendly and helpful staff who made you feel like family and never made you feel like you were asking for too much. A must is the spa, absolutely incredible massages!!!! And of course all this surrounded by the mighty Zambezi where tiger fishing is a definite and the most incredible bush and wildlife.

This Lodge (Royal Zambezi) must be at the top of your wish list of Lodges to visit on the Lower Zambezi River.
It is exceptionally well run by a brilliant team of friendly people who will make sure your visit is a one of a lifetime trips.
All the rooms are extremely comfortable, overlooking the magnificent Zambezi River with herds of Elephants and hippo and more grazing on the plains in front.
They have the most divine beds with lovely crisp linen and comfortable pillows.
Each room has got it’s own private plunge pool to cool off in after your morning or afternoon activities.
You won’t go hungry, endless delicious meals enough to feed an army with all your dietary requirements provided for.
This lodge is the best value for money around.
To be HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Very luxurious. Each room is a small cabin with a huge comfortable bed and full bathroom with rainfall shower head. Shelves and safe are supplied. No formal locks on doors but monkey proof locks are there. The bed looked out onto the Zambezi River. There is a restaurant on site. Spa on site. Had a massage there and it was OK. You get there by chartered flight to their airstrip. Next to Lower Zambezi National Park. Many activities. Game drives, fishing, canoeing, and walks. Friendly staff. There's no air conditioning but there is a fan and it cools off at night.

This is my sixth trip to Royal Zambezi Lodge and every time I am blown away by the quality of care, food, bedding, guides and overall experience.
Being a local farmer I have the choice of many lodges but we keep returning. That should say a lot!
Although this is the rainy season and its hard to find some animals in the thick bush, Leo our guide showed us many overlooked creatures and flora, The bird life was prolific this time of year.
With much enthusiasm and perseverance he also managed to find one of the Brutal Boys (male lion) which was thrilling.
Coming upon a big Bull Elephant in our path and in full Musth set the adrenaline racing, but once again Leo steered us safely past with experience and determination.
The lodge staff are so welcoming and available without being overbearing.
The rooms, which have recently been refurbished are heavenly with have wonderful linen. Our room was supplied with Yoga mats, umbrellas, dressing gowns, locally made toiletries and mosi spray and everything we might need and more.
Each room has its own private splash pool which is much needed after a muggy game drive. Views over the mighty Zambezi River with resident Buffalo and Elis for entertainment while we relaxed on our own veranda between game drives and meals.
We will be back. Thank you Natalie and staff for another wonderful stay.

Is exactly what we experienced during our 7 nights at The Royal Zambezi Lodge. Our rooms were beautiful and stylish with the most exquisite view of the river. The management team and staff looked after our every need and were always on hand to answer our questions and ensure we were comfortable. Mornings were spent online schooling, bird watching from the deck and reading. Afternoons and evenings were filled with fishing and game drives both of which resulted in some great catches and game sightings. We were thoroughly spoilt with delicious meals and the afternoon tea was never missed by our three children! The bush spa is the perfect place to pamper yourself with a range of treatments on offer.....the massages are phenomenal! We left feeling relaxed and will treasure the memories of our week together doing school in the bush!

We do not really know were to start as this place is so very special!!! Starting with a very helpful and caring booking support, the flight to the lodge and then the lodge itself were just perfect. We could not have ask for more. Our room was spacious, very clean and tidy. The view to the river is just spectacular and as far as we could see all rooms have direct view of the river and the banks in front.
And this is were the real excitement starts. We were so lucky and could see Elephants, Hippos, Buffalos, Crocs and lots of birds right out of our own pool which every room has. Of course you can also go to the little bigger infinity pool with the bar to enjoy the wildlife or use the rowing machine placed there for a little activity. The food was really good and plenty and little snacks were available in the afternoon.
We got a little special as the lodge treaded us with a river cruise lunch were we were having food on a boat in front of an elephant and crocs.
Additionally to that you have two activities per day included were you can choose between various options of Safari (Boat, Car, Walking, ...) as well as Spa treatments or fishing for the famous Tigerfish. The Guide are exceptional and take every bit of care possible. Our guides Leo and Kelvin were super knowledgable and egger to show us as much as they could. Of course there is always a little luck involved with wildlife but damn this was awesome. Our first game drive and we could see 4 of the big 5 (only the Rhino was missing because it is not at home in Lower Zambezi). Still for the next rides out the guides did not stop or slow down with there support to give us the best possible experience!!!

I do not know what else to say, this place is absolutely special and even though expensive worth every penny spend. Absolutely loved that place. It is great for families, couples or whatever, i think everyone with some love for wildlife will immediately fall in love with this lodge.

Day 1 was fantastic. World class canoe safari. Day 2 was horrible. I spent 8 hours violently emptying my stomach and my intestines overnight. The next morning they refused to offer any gesture for this awful experience. "We are barely breaking even" is the line I got! Please explain how that is relevant? I suggest they reduce our drinks bill by $50, since I know they purchased these drinks for less than a third of that. Should be an easy home run. For $20 they keep a customer happy. Or why not offer a free activity, or free bottle of wine to take home...any gesture. They wouldn't budge. Felt short sighted given that there is a real likelihood I caught something or ate something while in their care that caused me to be so sick.

If you are looking for a touch of luxury in the Zambian bush, then this is the place to choose. It's worth the long bumpy drive down from Lusaka just to walk through the main reception area and be faced with the stunning Zambezi river.
The rooms are beautifully clean and comfortable, with a private plunge pool and decking overlooking the river. Top quality mosquito nets are provided, along with bug sprays. The are also good quality toiletries.
The staff are truly wonderful, so friendly and helpful. Thank you Billy and Martin for our great welcome and to Alex who looked after our room. But thank you also to all the staff who presented my husband with a birthday cake and fantastic singing and dancing!
Staff are conscious of your safety at all times, accompanying you between chalets and the main reception area (in case you meet hippos or elephants)
We had a lovely sunset cruise along the river and the best game drive I've ever had the next morning. True we only saw lion paw prints and not the lions themselves, but there were impala, waterbuck and warriors aplenty, plus beautiful families of elephants. Our two and five year old grandchildren were entranced and kept entertained by all they saw, over four hours.
The food here is excellent. The very best gluten free bread and cakes (made on the premises) that I have had. Marvellous choice of meals and generous proportions: don't come here to lose weight!
We will definitely make Royal Zambezi a highlight next time we come to Zambia.

Sending our biggest “thank you” for a wonderful stay at Royal Zambezi. We were very properly spoiled!

Just too many highlights to mention, surprises we won’t reveal, romantic dinner set up and any and all lovely personal touches the staff had in mind. It was great to see the staff going out of their way to make us comfortable and truly taken care off. And not just we, with a busy lodge, all guests were being spoiled as if they were the only people there!

The extremely flexible arrangements for PRIVATE activities and meal times made the experience even more special and all our wishes seemed to have been thought off in advance.

Huge compliments to the entire team! From the gardeners, the o so pleasant night watchman, to Jonathan in the restaurant and Richard in front of house.

We had a fantastic time and will surely return. We cannot recommend enough!

THANK YOU

You will go on game drives starting around 6 AM and finishing 9:30 - 10 and then a second drive in the late afternoon or an afternoon boat ride on the Zambesi River. The middle of the day is free and you will probably nap. Pay attention to the season as the lodge has NO air conditioning and at the wrong time of the year, you are going to sweat a lot. The staff and the drives are wonderful.

Hi Ibrahim, 1 night is definitely not worth it and two nights isn't ideal either (although this is our minimum booking period). We actually recommend a minimum 3-4-night stay as this is not your typical safari destination with just land-based activities. Being based on the Zambezi River offers water activities too so there is an array of activities to choose from. 1-2 nights will feel too rushed and won't give you the opportunity to really immerse yourself in the whole experience. I hope this helps but please don't hesitate to visit our website and contact us directly if you require any further information. We hope to welcome you to the Royal family in 2020. :-)
