I recently went to Kafunta at the end of May with two good friends. We had an incredible trip- the lodge was gorgeous, the rooms were comfy, the staff was lovely. The most incredible part of the lodge is that it overlooks the flood plain, so we watched elephants, baboons, giraffes, and antelope while we dined, sipped champagne, swam in the infinity pool, and soaked in the hot tub. I cannot recommend this place enough. Our safari guide, Paul, was extremely knowledgable about all of the animals and plants we saw. He also knew the best places to find the animals- we saw wild dogs, multiple leopards, and 6 lions! Thanks Kafunta! Hope to see you again soon. -Maggie and friends <3
Heavenly location, perfect scenery for the Yoga retreat. Lovely to have the animals in view from the various decks, natural hot tub, pool and our room. The rooms were large with loads of natural light. Only thing missing was coffee/tea making amenities. The meals were delicious and served on time. Missing in the general area were the coffee/tea making facilities with the accompany rusks or cookies, although coffee was readily available on request. Enjoyed the game drive (although cooler box with refreshments was missing) and tours to the local artisan stores. Would definitely go again.
Kafunta hosted a wonderful yoga retreat that promoted healthy juices, vegetarian meals (meat option for those who may not be able to survive without meat) and great service. Kafunta had so many wonderful deck spaces to practice yoga that looked out over the valley. We would be in our tree pose looking at giraffes and later in mountain pose viewing the elephants. It was pure bliss. The Artisan tour was very nice to see what local businesses are doing to help the conservation of the South Luangwa Valley and the local people. Anelle and TJ were awesome, Jabes was a great game driver and the staff was terrific! Will be going back for sure for another yoga retreat!
Kafunta was a very good experience for us. The lodge has a nice, stylish touch to it and the room was very pretty. Our game drive guide Martin was highly knowledgeable and managed to show us a lot of animals and nature despite the green and bushy time of the year (early April). The scenery in South Luangwa was just beautiful. We really enjoyed the hot spring and pool at the lodge while watching hippoes and crocodiles swim right in front of us. The massages were very relaxing, too. Our request for vegetarian food was respected and well accommodated. Thank you for a wonderful holiday!
Staying at Kafunta River Lodge was truly a wonderful experience even more than I would have dreamed of, The check in was expertly handled and the welcome was very warm. The spacious chalet was very comfortable with a wonderful view of a lagoon which was never short of activity from munching hippos to Herons and Impala. The first night I was woken up to observe two lions right in front of my balcony. The game drives, meals and snacks were all expertly executed and the 6 game drives I went on were an experience that will stay with me forever. The Managers were engaging and ensured that every need was attended to with reasonable flexibility which added to the experience.
