It was a good and unforgettable experience staying on track and trail. The people working there were extremely friendly and good. The chalet was good and neat with all comforts. the food was also good. We were able to see hippos and crocs and elephants throughout our stay. It was overall a nice trip for us.

They have wonderful campsites under tall Mahagony trees providing good shade; beware of monkeys & baboons - they are everywhere all the time; One must keep eddibles locked up; There are guards on duty to chase them away; Bonus point - a wonderful swimmingpool overlooking the Luangwa river; The ablutions are neat and clean; there are bushbuck roaming around the gardens; next to a mosquito infested pond with a resident hippo, there is an elephant hide' - although in the 3 days we were there, we never saw elephants coming to drink, just some birds & lechwe antelopes; The camp also offers game-drives in open vehicles in South Lunagwa park ( the park entrance is a mere 1 km away from the entrance; ) Gamedrives are quite expensive at 55 US$ for 2-3 hours; But Track & Trail River Camp is a good starting point for gamedrives into the park;

It was amazing. Why was the lodge empty over New Year's when all other places were buzzing, full to the brim, with every single game-viewing vehicle on the road? I couldn't understand it but thought they are bashful and don't like advertising. Management was on leave, but luckily had left guide, attentive staff and chef behind. It is a lovely place, hidden among budget accomms near the Mfuwe Bridge, its chalets comfy and well appointed (there is even a loft for the kids to sleep, and/or for river-viewing from the balcony), though the mozzie net was too small for the bed, with an opening at the foot-end, i.e. difficult to get in and out of, and hanging in my face. But then, the food! It was absolutely terrific. We really hadn't expected such great cuisine in this modest-seeming lodge. As it happened, it was raining and raining while we were there (Dec/Jan IS rainy season after all). The lawns were soggy, the gravelled footpaths full of puddles (my shoes never dried in the 3 days we were there), and the distance from chalets to dining room quite a challenge (my dodgy knees were complaining). But the gameviewing was superb. Esp for spotting spotted cats. Just like us they hate wet feet, and so they hang out on the road or in the open. We even saw painted wolves, a pack dashing among the many cars that had assembled when word went out "DOGS!" (during high holiday the Mfuwe area of South Luangwa suffers from what I call the 'Kenya Syndrome': 12 cars on 2 lions!). We had a wonderful guide, Vic Chulu, who braved rain and cold in his unprotected gameviewer front-seat to tirelessly show us - some of us were newcomers - what the Valley had to offer. The spotter was very valiant too, equally exposed to driving rain. The day before New Year's Eve it was our 55th wedding anniversary; so chef baked a super choc-cake, but oddly it said "Happy Birthday"! I guess he's so used to baking birthday cakes that he was on a roll: anniversary cakes don't feature often. We appreciated it anyway. So thanks again to all.

We camped ourselves on the campsite of T&TRC and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it. The camp is a great base to explore the national park and it was very quiet; we were almost the only campers. The camp attendant was kind very helpful. I loved loved loved the wondering hippo's at night. We also very much appreciated the pool and the G&T's at the bar. Overall, the staff is very friendly and helpful. We also booked 2 game drives at the end of the day; both were equally amazing and the wildlife we saw was out of this word; the guide was a true expert. After staying 2 nights, we left for a 2 night stay at Zungulila bush camp. A very luxurious and remote camp, part of the bush camp company. Although we had a good time at Zungulila, we preferred Track & Trail. Returning to T&T after our stay at Zungilla we decided to stay another 3 nights. We will hopefully back in May of next year!

The camp is just outside of the entrance gate to the park and is frequently visited by elephants, hippo’s and lots of smaller animals. On one night a huge male hippo was standing no more than two meters from the entrance to our cottage. Fortunately the watchmen are around to guide you back and from your room when it gets dark😁. The food is very good. Every single meal we had was delicious and they were very accommodating when it came to dietary requests. What truly made our stay memorable though were the private drives we had with Peter, one of the owners. He is a photographer and you can book him for private tours. He not only has the technical skills to make beautiful pictures, he’s also very good in transferring that knowledge. Combining these skills with his experience in South Luangwa gets you in situations where you can make beautiful pictures and see the animals and landscape in a way no other guides have been able to show us. We have visited various camps during our stay in South Luangwa, most of which very high end and deep in the park, yet the experience we had with Peter easily tops all of them.

Hi Mark, Thanks for a great review and lovely compliment. We have had some great moments in the bush, especially the elephants in dusty clouds. I still need to go through all the pics of the previous month. Cheers P
