Experience the ultimate in wild luxury at Zambia’s premier safari camp. Situated on a sweeping curve of the Luangwa River, Time + Tide Chinzombo brings style and sophistication to the Luangwa Valley. This wildly luxurious camp retains its bush authenticity with grass and canvas walls and spacious living areas that melt into the exquisitely tranquil riverside setting. Its six spacious luxury safari tents (including a two-bedroom, two-bathroom family tent) rest beneath ancient msikizi trees. Each has a private pool and soaking tub with panoramic views over the river and its abundant wildlife. Down a winding path, the main lodge beckons. Lounge on the riverfront sun deck with a book from the open-air library. Enjoy dinner under the stars, made with produce we grow ourselves. Sip a drink at the bar while browsing through old books and photos or around the fire pit suspended high atop the river bank. This is one of the most game-rich areas of South Luangwa National Park. Take a boat across the river with our experienced guides for a game drive, safari walk or boat cruise (seasonal) to catch sight of lions, leopards and other predator action.

Webster's describes "stunning" with the following synonyms: amazing, astonishing, astounding, blindsiding, dumbfounding, eye-opening,flabbergasting, etc....BUT he left out one important word: CHINZOMBO!!

This place is indescribable. It's not only a camp but it's a lifestyle experience. Imagine Ralf Lauren Home meets the bush. Posh to even detail imaginable; from the private plunge pool in your villa to the rustic buckles hanging in the bathroom (even the perfectly fitting bathrobes!), to the Veuve Cliequot on the hood of an open air Land Rover safari vehicle, to a bubble bath with monkeys!! Ok I'm kidding about the monkeys :-)

Chinzombo is a masterpiece in every sense. The game drives with master park ranger, Shaddy, are something people usually fantasize about. He is an amazing man and make sure you ask for him specifically. Katie, the manager, is a doll and the epitome of hospitality. She takes time to dine with every guest which is a special touch. The staff is superbly attentive, the food is superbly delicious! Do not for one second consider anything else!

Complete and total bliss!!!

Perhaps the best way to describe Chinzombo is "simply grand and grandly simple"

Feel free to contact me with any questions because I am passionate about this place!

Last time we stayed at Chinzombo was almost 14 years ago, in June 2000. In fact we had not been to "the valley" since then. This year we decided it was time to go back and see if South Luangwa Valley was just as wonderful as we remembered. It was! Definitely! We had booked a chalet at Kapani Lodge, another famous Normann Car lodge, which we knew from as far back as 1988. When we met with our travel agent, Voyagers, in Lusaka during our stop-over, we were told that we had been moved to Chinzombo in stead, not the old Chinzombo from 2000 as it had been washed away by the mighty Luangwa River, but the new one. We liked the old Chinzombo but must admit that the new one is a great improvement and utter luxury, meant to spoil people. Where else in Zambia would you find a remote wildlife lodge with your own swimming pool, with free view from the shower in the bathroom to hippos in the river, and to antelopes, elephants and other game, even a stray leopard, on the other side of the river. After the first night we moved to a bush camp far from Mfuwe and on return should have stayed at Kapani the last two nights of our trip, but after having been "exposed" to the luxury we quickly changed our booking and came back to Chinzombo. This we did not regret. We had a fantastic week in the valley. We have been to many parks all over Southern Africa and in our view South Luangwa Valley is the very best. And Chinzombo top of the league. We will be back.

We stayed at the beginning of April, so the end of what is known as the Green or Emerald season. The place was quiet, although we had the company of the directors in & around camp, we never felt they intruded on our experience. We stayed at Chinzombo at the end of a 12 day trip to Lake Malawi & South Luangwe. It was absolutely the perfect place to end a trip, to finish with a flourish and on an all time high. We definitely didn't want to leave, in fact two weeks on & we're already plotting our return.
Our time at Chinzombo was utterly perfect, I apologise now as I may run out of superlatives to describe our incredible time.
If you're looking for a rustic bush camp experience then don't book Chinzombo. However, if you're looking for something sassy, stylish & more then a little bit different, then its the place for you. The rooms are exquisitely furnished & equipped with everything you could desire & more (if you think of something else I'm sure the staff would be more then willing to supply it if they could). The "cool breeze" air cooled bed makes sleeping a pleasure and is incredibly quiet & un-invasive for an air-conditioning system, something I would normally avoid in the bush because of the noise, but I am now a convert. The rooms are well spaced so you have privacy without total isolation. The private plunge pool was lovely & something we made use of everyday, as was our own private outdoor lounge area where we could spot the wildlife on the river, sometimes at close proximity, like the hippo that came to graze our lawn in the evening. The main-lounge area has lots of beautiful "spaces" to enjoy & experience too.
The guiding quality is exceptional, I have worked in the lodge industry in South Africa & travelled extensively throughout Southern & East Africa and our guide Abraham is amongst the best that I have encountered. It was a privilege to be in the company of such a knowledgable guide who showed a deep passion for not only his industry but also the beautiful Luangwa Valley and the flora & fauna that call it home.
The food at Chinzombo is delicious! My only criticism is that you are guaranteed to eat far too much. The thai fish cakes at lunch & the beautiful array of side salads at least made me feel healthy in my indulgence. Dinner was a delight, an array of delicate flavours & presentation that certainly wouldn't be out of place in a top London restaurant.
The staff had that perfect balance you would expect of a luxury establishment, attentive but discrete. Katie, the host and manager, was always on hand, nothing was too much trouble & her bubbly enthusiasm for both the camp (which she has been involved with since it's conception) the company & indeed the Luangwa Valley is completely infectious.
From the moment Abraham collected us to the moment we left, we felt utterly relaxed & cocooned by people who took pride in their work & always went the extra mile to make us comfortable & welcome. Actually beyond our departure this feeling remained, as Katie was thoughtful enough to send us off with a packed snack for our layover in Lusaka, which was very welcome because when we arrived at the airport late on a Sunday evening for a 5 hour layover, everything was shut and we were unable to check-in for 4 hours.
Would we return…Definitely….Would we recommend to our friends & family…without hesitation. It's one of those "once in a lifetime" places that is so fantastic you know that just once will never be enough.

In August 2013, I was lucky enough to stay at the Chinzombo resort. The setting was fantastic and the rooms were luxurious to say the least. As for the staff, it is difficult to fit everyone in on one review as to a man, they were all fantastic. A special mention though is reserved for Fin and Wendy who looked after us from start to finish with complete professionalism.

If you are looking for a 4 star safari experience then Chinzombo is not for you. This is 5 star luxury no question.

Having just arrived home from a wonderful 11 night safari through Zambia, completing my 7th trip there, all I can say is Chinzombo has renewed the love I have for being in Zambia.

Chinzombo somehow perfectly combines the basic essence of a bush-safari experience with outstanding guides, namely Abes while taking the basics of a bush safari camp and making it into a refined, comfortable experience. The warmth of Finn and Wendy were extraoridinary. Everyone within the camp went above and beyond.

It's hard to describe Chinzombo in that many aspects of the camp are quite like that of any other bush camp. It's the small things that stand out. LIke when Afax takes your dinner order...and actually having a choice for my dinner. An enhanced bar beverage selection (although NC could do a little bit better here. Perhaps a few nice single malts and cognacs to smoke while enjoying the complimentary cigars?). An espresso machine. And fleece ponchos on-board the really, really nice new Land Rovers.

The rooms are extraordinary in design and comfort, but again rings to the heart of a bush camp. Perhaps the most enigmatic issue is WiFi. Whilst most people enjoy the secluded nature of a trip to the Zambian bush, myself at the top of the list, the problem always arose as to the operations of my bank. It's very difficult to up and walk away from a large business for 2 whole weeks. Wifi actually allowed me to fully relax, by carving out just an hour each day to cover the albsolute basics and make sure no crisis has began to unfold.

The bush experience with Abes truly has reinvigorated my desire to return time and time again. The most incredible moment occured when, during a walking-drive, we encountered 15 lions on foot. Truly, a Zambian experience.

This camp is extraoridinary in every respect and I believe will become (if it hasn't already) become the gold standard upon which every other camp will be held to.

This was our family's first safari experience to celebrate our 20 year anniversary. We took our kids - ages 13, 12 and 9 - to celebrate and could not have been happier with our stay at Chinzombo. We consider ourselves most lucky to have happened upon Chinzombo as our first camp during our first days in Africa. The only downside to this was that each camp and house that followed in our 2 week trip was compared to Chinzombo's staff and setting. Wendy, Fin, Shaddy, Phillip, Jospehat, Afax and all the others at this camp became like family to us and we continued to long for their company throughout our stay in Zambia.

As far as specifics, the camp is absolutely stunning as the pictures depict ... they didn't even need to embellish these photos, it's that beautiful! From the villas to the dining and socializing areas, the accommodations are luxurious yet surprisingly comfortable. The bar area was so inviting and we all felt comfortable lounging around, playing games, and enjoying fireside chat with the staff in the evenings. The villas are spacious yet still have a camp-like feel with the tasteful and rustic furniture. The kids loved the small private pools under the backdrop of the bush. And we all enjoyed the cleanliness that rivals a 5-star hotel despite being thick in the bush.

The food is outstanding and they obviously observed our preferences to adjust as the days passed - vodka tonics for sundowners when we didn't even ask, scrambled eggs for my son before he inquired, plain bread for my picky daughter, etc. The service and attentiveness from the staff is outstanding at Chinzombo!

Our game drives were lively and now that we've been to other parts of Zambia we appreciate how abundant the game is around Chinzombo. We saw elephant cross the river daily and giraffes came frequently to drink. Our guide, Shaddy, is extremely experienced and impressively knowledgeable. He seems to have a sixth sense when it comes to finding game. And, we all appreciated how well he adjusted his discussions to accommodate our "first-timer" safari status and for our kids to make it more fun and educational.

Finally, Wendy and Fin were the best hosts and we have all commented on how much we have missed them since we said good bye. They are fun, easy going, and very down to earth. What makes them special and stood out to us was there genuine interest in you to ensure you are having the best possible experience. While this may be their first camp they've managed in Africa, their experience in hospitality shows with the special touches they infused - from scheduling a surprise private anniversary dinner on our villa deck for my husband and I while they entertained the kids to arranging a special trip to Chipembele, it was these unique touches that made our experience memorable.

Got to spend three lovely nights at the brand new & divine Chinzombo. Arrived via dubai's direct flight to Lusaka, then to Mfuwe, past boys playing football as the sun was setting, families preparing for dinner, an hour drive later, arrived at South luangwa park and took the short boat crossing to chinzombo.

I have many fond & memorable arrival experiences but arriving under a blanket of stars while crossing a river full of hippos and crocodiles and then being warmly welcomed "home" by the very sweet, abercrombie & fitch looking assistant camp managers Finlay Hunter and his wife Wendy from Glasgow would be one of my top ones.

Of the 6 villas, 5 were ready but it was just myself and a couple that were there for the same time period. We called it the Finlay house party.

Chinzombo is fabulous, all the villas face the serene Luangwa river, each stylish villa comes with beautiful recycled composite timber decks, wifi, standalone bathtub, writing desk, huge bathroom, outdoor lounge area and plunge pool. The place defintely looks like it should be featured in a home decor magazine and yet you are in the bush, ie at night the hippos and elephants visit, I definitely heard them as the elephants drank out of the plunge pool, and the hippos make so much noise you feel like they are in bed with you.

Meals were mostly delicious and home made, lunches were the best as I tend to prefer more vegetarian meals, but breakfast cooked inches away from the Luangwa river via an open fire over sunrise while surrounded by wildlife was a great way to start the day, and dinner was a slightly more formal affair with a variety of choices for the three course meal, always beautifully presented, & accompanied by plenty of stories and decent wine.

Yet only a short one minute boat ride took us into the heart of Luangwa park where we did a combination of jeep rides and walking safaris, at times feeling like we had the park all to ourselves, though for people obsessed with seeing cats, not sure South Luangwa is the place to see them as we didn't see any, though I got to see plenty of my other fav animals. "Uncle" Shaddy our guide knew Norman Carr since he was a toddler and obviously knew his stuff, the man is a walking encyclopedia, his parents also worked for Norman Carr and his daughter is also working at Chinzombo.

In sum, a great choice for safari and rest, I don't think I've ever slept in a nicer "tent" (except for the Oberoi in Jaipur & Ranthambore.... But that would be an apple vs oranges comparison ).

The staff made sure that’s the kids had everything they needed including games, activities, food and even a packed lunch when we left.

Our guide Byron was so friendly, engaging and informative making sure the kids enjoyed the drives and that we were able to have fantastic sightings.

Thank you to Chibasa and all of the staff, we had the most amazing stay.

my husband and I just spent 4 nights at your lodge for our honeymoon. Everything was incredible; the rooms are so beautiful, the food is delicious and the sightings were amazing. But what really stood out what your staff. From the time we arrived to the moment we left, we felt so taken care of and nothing was too much to ask. I want to call out Chibesa- everything is so well run and a well oiled machine. I always think the best managers are the ones who look like they are doing nothing, cause they have made everything run so well behind the scenes.

Then Friday was amazing and always had a smile on his face and the warmest energy. He really is a huge asset to your team. We loved our time on the vehicle with Byron and he is so incredibly knowledgeable. Chanda and Elijah were also amazing and so friendly. Although to be honest, every single staff member was magnificent.

Thank you so much and we really hope to be back soon. We could not have asked for a better start to our trip.
