Experience the ultimate in wild luxury at Zambia’s premier safari camp. Situated on a sweeping curve of the Luangwa River, Time + Tide Chinzombo brings style and sophistication to the Luangwa Valley. This wildly luxurious camp retains its bush authenticity with grass and canvas walls and spacious living areas that melt into the exquisitely tranquil riverside setting. Its six spacious luxury safari tents (including a two-bedroom, two-bathroom family tent) rest beneath ancient msikizi trees. Each has a private pool and soaking tub with panoramic views over the river and its abundant wildlife. Down a winding path, the main lodge beckons. Lounge on the riverfront sun deck with a book from the open-air library. Enjoy dinner under the stars, made with produce we grow ourselves. Sip a drink at the bar while browsing through old books and photos or around the fire pit suspended high atop the river bank. This is one of the most game-rich areas of South Luangwa National Park. Take a boat across the river with our experienced guides for a game drive, safari walk or boat cruise (seasonal) to catch sight of lions, leopards and other predator action.

We spent 2 nights at Chinzombo after the previous 6 nights at its sister bush camps, Luwi, Nsolo and Mchenja. There is nothing bush about Chinzombo - huge rooms, private plunge pools. AC above the bed, massages, internet....This is a lot more than I need on safari but after 6 days in Botswana and 6 in S Luangwa, it was a nice ending to our safari.
Chinzombo is located near the park entrane and I was concerned about crowds on game drives. Fortunately, we had one of Norman Carr's most experienced guides (Shaddy) and he does not like crowds. He steered us away from from traffic and a probably found more interesting game than anyone else. He is a fantastic guide. We saw 5 leopards with him and 2 genet, one of which was on a kill, probably a mongoose. One other leopard was crouched watching a hare which was about 20 feet away. This was a night sighting which did attract 2 other vehicles and disrupt the stalk.
At the camp on our first afternoon, a herd of 13 giraffe appraoched the river about 150 meters from camp. Great photo opp. All in all, game viewing was quite good due to our excellent guide.
We met David, the president of Norman Carr, who came to Chinzombo for dinner one evening. I enjoyed chattihg with him. He told us about the new camp that Norman Carr is opening in western Zambia and it definitely has my interest.
As at all Norman Carr camps, the staff was friendly and the service was first rate.

The accommodation was top class, made only better by our hosts Wendy and Fin. The staff are more than helpful, especially Josphat, Afax and Surgent our waiters! The food was consistently outstanding and I couldn't fault it at all! I am a wheelchair user (T12, Independent, can transfer, strong upper body, just a little background for other people on wheels) and this was my first time on safari. I would definitely recommend Chinzombo to other wheelchair users who want to get out and experience the thrill of safari! The villas are open plan with spacious toilets which help a lot. Ramps lead up to all the villas and before I arrived at Chinzombo the staff had built a portable ramp to give me access from the bar down to the fire pit! The path from the bar/social area to the villas is gravel which could be quite difficult when I didn't have my FreeWheel attached, especially when your keeping your eyes peeled for any game that has made it's way into camp, but Fin took care of this immediately by driving me to and from in his golf cart. Normally guests access the park by crossing the river on a small boat, which I ended up doing most of the time, with help from my brother and a few of the staff. However the boat is accessed down a set of stairs which I had to be carried down. This can be avoided by driving round to the main entrance to the park and crossing the bridge in the land rovers! Our guides Abe and John were excellent and extremely knowledgeable! This being my first time on safari, I had hundreds of questions which they were able to answer, always with a little more detail or background story than I expected! I cannot rate Chinzombo highly enough! The camp is in a stunning location, its luxurious and the service provided by not only our excellent hosts but all the staff made Chinzombo an experience I will never forget!

What a lovely stay. Chinzombo isn’t cheap, but you certainly get the level of quality that you pay for. We chose this site as our expensive ’treat’ at the end of our less high-end holiday in Zambia. Wow! We felt thoroughly looked after and spoiled. The food is exceptional (ooo that fresh bread!), the room and surrounds exquisite and the staff friendly and attentive, without being over-powering. Faith oversaw everything and is simply wonderful. The game drives weren’t as rewarding (in terms of animal sightings) as they were in the other lodges we visited in South Luangwa, but we absolutely loved our short stay. It feels very exclusive, so perhaps this place might be less good for those looking for a ‘real’ Africa experience- we thought it was a great treat however! Thank you Faith and all your wonderful team!

We stayed 5 nights at Chinzombo. On The very first morning drive we were extremely lucky to see 7 different leopards! Game sightings were great throughout - one superb sighting was a 2 hour drama between a male leopard, a female leopard and and a hyena (all 3 vying for a warthog kill). Saw many many elephants. And of course saw Ginger the lion!
The suites are tented, spacious, each one overlooking the south luwaunga river. So at all times you can see and hear hippos, elephants, baboons from the suite and common areas.
Game vehicles were good, food was good. Hosts Ben and Billy were great, very hospitable.

I have stayed in Many lodges and by far this property has been the best for lots of reasons. Set on the banks of the river with wonderful views , especially at sunrise. The staff cannot be beat, the lodging more than expected and the food wonderful. Billie and Ben are awesome hosts. The tent's are super large with an equally impressive outdoor space with plunge pool. Everything you could want is in the room. There is even air conditioning right above the bed. You take a boat across the river to arrive at lodge and go on drives.. takes just a few moments. There is wifi in the rooms and common area's. A very lovely bar/lounge area with books/pictures/etc. The shopping choices are nice also. Lots of local products. I would stay here again in a heartbeat. I even skipped a drive to enjoy the lodge and I never do that.

While the design of the lodge is very modern - which might put some people off - the location is stunning and the rooms and common area are well laid out. The guiding is top notch, which Comes from the fact, that nearly all the guides used to be Walking safari guides. Landscape is diverse and wildlife is abundant.

Not for Safari traditionalists but for everyone else!

The comanagers Ben and Billie are excellent. Their staff is excellent as well. When everyone knows your name from cook to waiter to guide to security etc, they have been trained well. All rooms have a plunge pool. My only dissatisfaction had to do with the heat. Yes they have an air cool system for over the bed but it can get really hot. The weather is not their fault. I would just not go there in mid September through the end of October. But I would go back at some point.

We stayed for four nights in Chinzombo, and we enjoyed every minute.
The rooms are fabulous. Contemporary design, but inside many 'African style" details. Huge bed, which has a great aircon above it, which provides a very gentle flow of cool air. I'm normally no fan on airconditioning in lodges, but this one I really liked. In the heat of the day, it helped for a good siesta. At noght it cooled down anyhow enough. Bathroom had free-standing bath with a good view of the river, a walk-in shower, double sinks and seperate toilet. Enough space to place our stuff.
On the deck a small private pool, and several seats. Great view of the river, and the hippos in the water. At night they came 'to cut the grass' on the lawns between our room and the river.
Service was excellent, and all staff members did whatever possible to make us happy, starting from the managers (Ben and Billy) to waiters and night guards who escort you to and from your room in the dark.
Food was excellent. Served at seperate tables, quality and presentation was very good. Breakfast was nice, and cooked to order over the fire. Lunch was buffet with lots of good choices. Dinner was three courses, with choices for all three. The house wines were also nice, and served at the right temperature.
Game drives were great. Our guide Abraham was one of the best ones we have met during many years of safari. He recognized our interests quickly, and showed us many nice things, including a leopard kill (where the poor leopard lost its prey to hyenas), great lion sightings, several other leopards, but also lots of birds (97 different species) and other wildlife. We particularly appreciated the fact that Abraham was so relaxed, and did not try to rush from one sighting to another, but also showed us the smaller things.
If I had to name one draw-back of Chinzombo: it is located close to Mfuwe gate. It means that during the game drives you may see more other cars than further noth in the park, allthough we did enjoy the leopard kill with no other cars in sight for about an hour.
So we can strongly recommend Chinzombo. For us one of the better lodges we have seen in all our Africa trips.

Luxurious, well appointed lodge with amazing food, hosts, and attention to detail. Each private "cabin/tent" was beautifully appointed with old world safari desk, comfy chairs, full size king (or 2 twin beds which my kids had in theirs) soaking tub, double vanity shower, and beautiful lighting, the leather and canvas "closet" was perfect. Each "cabin" had its own dipping pool and lounge area for sitting outside to enjoy the views. Ben and Billy were so fun to talk to as were all the staff. Our safari guide Brian was awesome!
