Experience the ultimate in wild luxury at Zambia’s premier safari camp. Situated on a sweeping curve of the Luangwa River, Time + Tide Chinzombo brings style and sophistication to the Luangwa Valley. This wildly luxurious camp retains its bush authenticity with grass and canvas walls and spacious living areas that melt into the exquisitely tranquil riverside setting. Its six spacious luxury safari tents (including a two-bedroom, two-bathroom family tent) rest beneath ancient msikizi trees. Each has a private pool and soaking tub with panoramic views over the river and its abundant wildlife. Down a winding path, the main lodge beckons. Lounge on the riverfront sun deck with a book from the open-air library. Enjoy dinner under the stars, made with produce we grow ourselves. Sip a drink at the bar while browsing through old books and photos or around the fire pit suspended high atop the river bank. This is one of the most game-rich areas of South Luangwa National Park. Take a boat across the river with our experienced guides for a game drive, safari walk or boat cruise (seasonal) to catch sight of lions, leopards and other predator action.

A fantastic lodge and worthy of its status as a luxury getaway. Being a boutique lodge with a maximum capacity of 15 people and 5 enormous chalets, one can expect a secluded experience. Each chalet is given a dedicated guide and safari vehicle so you are always going to have your own space. The lodge is tastefully decorated and everything is inviting, the main area is spacious with lots of places you want to kick back and relax. The rooms are beautiful and vast. A wonderful extra king bed with ample relaxing areas both in the room and on your private deck. A very special space to enjoy the beauty and serenity of the environment around you. Of course all of this would not be worthy of praise if the staff and management were not up to scratch - In this area they excel. The guides are very knowledgable and quickly understand how to tailor their input to meet your interests. The rest of the team are just so friendly and very well trained to make you feel special and while they meet your every requirement, also make sure you have your privacy and space.

Chinzombo is a magical experience and while i am fairly critical, this lodge and its team are top notch and you will not regret choosing it as your holiday destination.

Crossing the river in a small motorised boat we were transported into Nirvana. Just six tented rooms comprise the camp. Each is organised to look directly onto the river where one may while away the time observing the birds and animals, especially the groups of hippos disporting themselves. Indeed the snorting and snuffling of the hippos may qualify as ac”theme tune” for the camp.

The tents/rooms are enormous. The bed is capacious with mosquito nets set down at night. There is a bathroom with free-standing bath and walk-in shower supplied with piping hot water. A separate unit holds the toilet. Two basins complete the sanitation ware. The wardrobe area forms part of the bathroom area.

Outside there is a plunge/small swimming pool. Sun loungers and couches abound which bare under trees. A bush buck wandered idly past as we relaxed. This open area for animals means that that one has to be accompanied to the room at night.

Food is excellent. Breakfast is almost up to you. The local yoghurt is superb being thick and creamy. Pancakes or eggs are offered. Lunch is usually salad with a quiche and hot dish served fresh as a buffet. One selects dinner at tea from a menu of only three courses all delicious.

Drinks are included and may be chosen from a selection inside the room or from a small bar in the main room for the entire camp.

Turning to the safari drives on offer and other options these are at the heart of the camp. The guides are informative, friendly and keen to make the drive as exciting as possible. Giraffe are a special animal here in the park with the Thornicroft or Luangwa sub-species only located here.

The staff were outstanding Emmanuel gave a great news about the history of the camp and the others in the group.

Superb. We shall return

Chinzombo is a remarkable diamond in the rough in South Luangwa, beautiful earth tones of grey and light-brown blended with bright whites (of the floors and ceilings) Chinzombo manages to blend into its environment and yet still stand out. Its Management duo of Emmanuel and Chibesa ensure the smooth and seamless running of this small 6 tented camp. The rooms scream luxury with everything you would need on safari and more, catering to a very specific traveler, equipped with a fully stocked bar, hairdryers, wifi (even in the rooms), yoga mats, evening breeze cooling system in the beds for those warm Luangwa nights, and not to mention private pool, yes you heard right not plunge but actual pools. My colleague and I enjoyed our stay there.

This Lodge is run like a well oiled machine and our 4 night stay was truly memorable. T &T even sent someone from Tours Africa to meet us at check in at Lusaka Airport and to assist us with our bags when we did not expect that service at all. When we touched down at Mfuwe airport, Moses picked us up and he was our guide for the duration of our stay. With his encyclopaedic knowledge of all things relating to the bush and his very personable nature, we had multiple conversations with Moses which we enjoyed. It was an interesting experience to arrive on the other side of the Luangwa River and take a motorised boat to the Lodge which was sited along the river on 60 acres of private land. Such a beautiful property that’s tastefully furnished and respecting nature in all of its splendour. The openness of the Lodge and its villas meant that it was possible to sight wildlife along the river at any time. The entire team at T & T deserve to be commended for their outstanding service in ensuring that guests do not want for anything. Little things like buttoning up a pyjama top before folding it to leave on the bed and boiling a kettle of water at the time the bed is turned down in anticipation of the guest wanting a hot drink are just examples of how exemplary the service is. The game drives were excellent in that Moses knew how to track the wildlife effectively and it was truly a special treat on our last day when a pride of lions appeared. Ours was the only Land Cruiser there to witness the antics of 9 cubs, 3 lionesses and 2 lions as they emerged from the long grasses and lazed around. Thank you to all at T & T who showed us how we could easily get accustomed to such pampering!

I was very fortunate to spend a couple amazing nights at Chinzombo. It is situated on a bend on the Luangwa River with a sweeping view of a beautiful, lively landscape. The villa is very well appointed, immaculate and comfortable. A great place to relax. The staff is wonderfully attentive. Gloria is a gem of a host and Adam was a stellar safari guide. The food, every dish, was incredible. I cannot recommend this place enough. This was a wonderful vacation and I cannot wait to get back.

We loved Chinzombo, beautiful animals, fantastic hospitality and vast luxurious tented accommodation. On safari we had many many great sightings and Godfrey our guide was so experienced and knowledgeable that we often were the only people looking at leopards or lions. Back at camp Gogo and all the team were fantastic. Thanks to everyone for a fabulous week.

This review is based on my general experience and comparison to 14 previous stays in '5Star' Lodges and Camps in 6 African Countries.
The design, structure and layout of the Chinzombo Camp is 5 Star.
The Staff, especially the new manager, Yali, were particularly kind while providing service during my 'illness'.
The Legendary guide Shadi, tried very hard to find game, but I was less than satisfied with the Variety of animals on my 6 game rides. I know that spotting any of the more rare animals is a hit or miss proposition, but in a terrain known as 'the Valley of the Leopards', When we finally found one in a tree, it was in a tree surrounded by 6 vehicles. Allegedly, the maximum is 3 allowed at a time. We never saw this leopard. No Rhinos in This park. Had one other brief Leopard sighting. I would have preferred a 1/2 hour less time observing the ubiquitous Impala, and getting to the start of the sundowner before the Sun actually went down.
NOTE TO PHOTOGRAPHERS: The Vehicles do not go off road as they do in Botswana or the Kruger private reserves. This means that if you see a pride of lions in the distance, bring a long lens. Getting close to any animals is pure chance.
I had my first and only episode of Bacterial Diarrhea ever, (presumably food poisoning) 27 hours after arrival. This resulted in missing 2 Game Rides and continued discomfort for three days. They staff was kind enough to provide an electrolyte replacement drink, some type of medicinal tablets and additional seat cushions for the final rides. I was able to speak to two other British guests, and they also mentioned their 'gastric distress'.
I was not happy with the meal schedule. The general policy is 5:30am wake up,
6am full breakfast( cooked eggs, etc.) Approx. 9:15 coffee and cookie on the AM ride. 11:30 am Brunch, 4pm pre-pm Ride Tea. The traditional sundowner, Dinner at 8:30pm.
I personally do not want a full bkfst. at 6am and then going out for a 4 hour bumpy ride.
My personal preference is where a continental bkfst. Is available at 6am With some fruit, yogurt, or dry cereal available.. A coffee break on the am ride, a full bkfst upon return, if desired, and then A full lunch at 1 pm, tea at 4, Sundowner on the pm drive, and dinner as agreed upon by the vehicle occupants upon their return from the drive.
Management was able to accommodate myself and vehicle mates with a substantial bkfst.
returning from the am ride, the next substantial meal is 9 hours later, with tea time and a Sundowner, being the only small snacks.
In general the quality of the meals was adequate, more of the cook prepared quality, rather than Chef created. Not really 5 star.
Most other 5 🌟 camps have had surprise dinners in the bush and/or Barbecue dinners in a Native Boma around a bonfire. Neither of these experiences are offered here.
I noticed the following, which was corrected after management was informed.
The Front door to my tent had no way to secure from the interior.
Shower soap dispenser, didn't dispense.
Cleaned clothes was returned with no replacement form or pen.
Wet towels left on the floor, we're not replaced, but laid over the tub to dry.(I noticed that a review in Sept.2014 had the same complaint).
In the communal bathroom, there should be individual washcloths or towelettes for drying hands, NOT just one hand towel.
The Staff needs more training and supervision.

I cannot emphasise enough how wonderful the actual accommodation and staying here was. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming, the food was incredible at every meal and the rooms themselves were spectacular - large, spacious, private plunge pool each, wifi, etc.

However, the actual safari itself was a complete shambles. We did only stay here because it was closer to the airport, but were dreading it on arrival because of all the rumours we had heard about it as we travelled around, which all turned out to be true. I understand that it is highly unlikely to be their fault - their unfortunate placing by the main gate means that the park is flooded with self-drives who do not understand basic etiquette at all and there are far too many lodges in such a small area. Consequently, any sighting is surrounded by between 4-8 cars at any one time - and not just exciting sightings - the giraffes, for example, had at least 5 cars every time we saw a group. The night drive was even worse - more headlights than animals.

The guide seemed a little uninspired and unable to tailor his information to his clients. For example, we are very experienced and have been on safari over 15 times, yet he still felt the need to tell us basic information such as "males have antlers, females don't". He was nice enough, but did seem to lack the social skills we've experienced at most other places.

The actual animal sightings, if you can ignore all the cars, are not bad. And again I must emphasise that the actual accommodation is wonderful. However, if you're paying this much to go on safari, there are definitely better places to go. I honestly feel awful for the investors behind this, as if not for the safari it would be perfect, but you do obviously go for the safari... very disappointing.

Dear AnnabelJanyne, Thanks for your review and we are so pleased you liked Chinzombo and our fabulous staff. We as Managers/Owners are incredibly proud of the entire team and think the camp itself is very special. I must apologise on behalf of your guide; guiding is something we pride ourselves on and have won awards for, so when I hear that you felt your guide was less than you expected then that is not acceptable and we will certainly investigate this matter further. As you have said, you're here for safari; we're lucky enough to have great game in the South Luangwa and your guide should enhance that by listening to your requirements. If you're interested in areas with less vehicles, then these can be found without diminishing the game experience
