I've visited Bilimungwe (Bili) many times and I always refer to it as the "happy camp" because the staff is so very friendly! Year after year I never tire of the great food and perfect location for wildlife viewing. They have added a new "star deck" since my last visit which invites you to dine or just go out and enjoy the dark starry night skies. I personally love the outdoor showers (but each room also offers an indoor shower if you prefer!) The food is outstanding and the breakfast area along the river for sunrise and hippos in the river is the only way to start your day.

Another wonderful, unique camp from the Bushcamp Company. Run by the great host, Alex with her super friendly and efficient team, we had such a fun , enjoyable couple of days at Bili. The rooms are very spacious and comfortable, with lots of beautiful locally sourced wood used for the floors and furniture, and a great outdoor shower as well as an indoor shower. The food was very fresh and tasty , with breakfast served by the river and brunch and dinner served in various locations by the lagoon.
We had the legendary, so knowledgable Manda as our guide and had some great game drives and walks , with some particularly special leopard sightings. We will definitely go back to stay at Bili again!

Bilimungwe camp is just incredible. Manda is an awesome and highly knowledgeable guide who was always willing to share his vast knowledge and help us learn about the bush both on walking and driving safaris. The camp is run by Alex who is fun, caring and runs a great camp. It's quite traditional with thatched huts some overlooking the lagoon with the resident hippos. The food was awesome : breakfast before the morning drive overlooking the river , brunch buffet after, afternoon cake and then 3 course dinner. Hard to believe what amazing food you can get in the bush and all dietary requirements catered for. Plenty of charging points in the lounge and solar lights in the huts. Amazing place!

I stayed here in november in 2018. I am a woman of nature at heart and I can tell you there is no place or hosts more beautiful than with The Bushcamp Company. I believe the surroundings is what contributes towards the feel of this place. Situated amongst trees with monkeys, a deep pond with a resident hippo and an open view of gazelles, baboons, warthogs and wildlife like you name it. The hosts, guides and residents staying were all welcoming, friendly, helpful and knowledgeable. A complete different kettle of fish to where I come from in the south of England. There is never anything too much or too little to ask for. The food was phenomenal. The sights we saw out on the guide tours were breathtaking, and the care and safety practiced on behalf of the wildlife is wiser than Confucius. These guys know what they are doing and I highly reccomend a stay with them.

Away from cell networks and WIFI, the stay was adorned with great wildfile, exquisite dining and spectacular guiding, conversion and expertise. The chalet was large and comfortable with a deck overlooking a lagoon with a resident hippo. Bee Eaters and Pearls Fishing owl were also at home at the bush camp. Great value for money and worth the trying 3 hour journey from base.

One of the best safari trips ever. A very private, intimate setting with only 4 spacious thatched cottages, located in a remote area of the South Luangwa N.P. The guide we had was one of the best and most knowledgeable ever. The bush walk was excellent and not to be missed. On the safari drives we seldom saw another vehicle. The game viewing was spectacular with plenty of lions, elephants, leopards, hippos, etc. We loved this place and the staff, and hope to return.

We stayed 4 nights at Bili then 2 nights at Zungulila in late December 2017.

The good:
- The staff is superb... they go above and beyond (they organized pizza cookout, a very special christmas brunch and dinner, dinner in your chalet, etc.)
- Manda is a WORLD CLASS guide... We really enjoyed our time spent with him. He is so knowledgable and will teach you so much. He is also very patient and for the most part is willing to stay at a siting until you're ready to go.
-During our six nights with bushcamps, we did see three lions (two males, one female) and three leopard (a mom and her subadult daughter, and another female), and a couple of wild dogs (but literally for 30 seconds... they ran across the airport strip in front of us... too fast to even get a picture).

The bad:
- Please, please do not go this time of year... you will be eaten alive by tsetse flies (my husband had at least 30-40 bites). Six weeks later, and he still has red marks from the bites everywhere.
- As soon as it gets dark, the night drive becomes miserable... The bugs (especially spiders) are outrageous — I had a baboon spider land on me on an early morning drive back to Mfuwe, which is perhaps the most terrifying experience I've had in my life. (This was just one of three baboon spiders we saw while staying with Bushcamps.)
- We also had a rat camped out in our room... he would run across the rafters all night... and he literally fell from the ceiling onto my husband one morning as he brushed his teeth. We told the staff and they said it's the rainy season - they are looking for somewhere dry.
- Most importantly, the area you can look for game is very limited. The rains were terrible when we were there, which means some days you cannot cross the river -- which is where the predators were at that time — or go to many other areas because it is too muddy and the vehicle will get stuck. Manda (Bili guide) made the drives as interesting as possible, but our guide at Zungulila seemed very disinterested.. he spent most of the time just chatting with the ranger and only speaking to us if I asked a question. We were the second to last guests of the season at Zungulila (we were the last guests at Bili) - so I think he was just tired and ready for his holiday.
-Because we were there so late in the season, the camps were a bit run down (musty sheets, a couple holes in bed net, etc... nothing awful given that it's the bush, but certainly not what you expect for the price)

Honestly the bushcamps shouldn't be open in late December. I'm sure it's a great company (their dedication to their employees and local community is great) and probably very nice in the dry season, but I'm very bitter that they allowed us to book such an expensive trip for so many nights at such a terrible time of year. They did try to move us to Mfuwe lodge for the last two nights (they knew how miserable we were with the bugs and driving the same loop every morning and night), but there was no availability. And because there's no phone/wifi/anything, once you're there, you're stuck and won't be able to make any alternate arrangements.

The last of our four lodges on our two weeks in Zambia. My lady and I wanted to be in the bush. What a place. Beautifully appointed, HUGE, chalets with indoor and outdoor (YES!!) showers. Comfortable beds. Solar hot water. Solar lighting. Watering holes in front of the chalets and main building where "Harry" the hippo made his home. The staff were wonderful - Julius and his whole team were nothing short of magnificent. Accommodating all our needs. Our last night was also the last night for the camp before the rainy season and we were the only ones in camp. We returned from our final night drive to find dinner had been set for us on our our chalet verandah. So nice, so romantic, so thoughtful.

The camp is in an excellent location, with no shortage of wildlife passing through. Elephants, hippos, birds, a leopard even. Just amazing. Our guide, Manda, was phenomenal And very humble. We didn't know at the time that we was once voted best guide in the world. Nor that he had taken his ten thousand pounds of prize money and given it all back to is village in the form of solar ovens. An interesting, intriguing, well read man who certainly knows his stuff. We had two night drives and a walking safari with Manda - the things we saw were just incredible.

For a true game experience in a wonderful location, Bili cannot be beat.

We did $10 pp/pd for the staff and $15 pp/pd for our guides. Though tipping is not required, it is expected and most definitely deserved.
