Lion Camp is a hidden gem located in Zambia’s South Luangwa National Park, an animal refuge and pristine protected ecosystem. Easily accessible from Mfuwe Airport, Lion Camp operates between May and October. Sense the magic of Africa in an authentic wilderness, where a diversity of animal and bird species all live off the Luangwa River. Feel the natural tranquillity of the unfenced lodge, offering safaris as they should be, teaming with wildlife and very few vehicles. Elevated above the valley floor, the lodge has a ‘tree house’ feel. Meander along the walkways from the spacious main lodge, where you can unwind at the bar after a refreshing dip in the pool; to the luxury canvas and thatch suites, each with a deck overlooking spectacular views. Embrace the thrill of the safari and take your pick from game drives and special interest safaris to guided walking safaris, bird watching, and stargazing. A definite bucket list safari awaits you!

We loved our stay at Lion Camp, a very special place! It was our most memorable holiday yet. Everything about our visit was wonderful. The camp itself, and all the staff were excellent, well trained, and could not have been more helpful. Fabulous accommodation and a tasteful, plentiful cuisine. The game viewing in this area is superb and drives usually produce some predator activity. The sightings were awesome. The guides were delightful, professional and very customer friendly. Hospitality was fantastic and we appreciated all the individual personalised attention to detail. We hope to be back very soon!

Staying at Lion Camp in October was a pure delight, and I couldn't have asked for a better experience with my colleagues. The lodge itself is absolutely lovely, but what truly made our visit special were the exceptional hosts – Dottie, Vicky, and Wayne. They are the sweetest and most accommodating individuals you could hope for. Wayne's enthusiasm for the bush is infectious, and his wealth of knowledge is truly impressive. He's always eager to ensure that guests are not only comfortable but also engaged with the wonders of the wilderness. One of the highlights of Lion Camp is their two resident wild elephants, Charlie and Scooter. We were fortunate to witness Scooter resting his head on the dining wall, offering us a heartwarming welcome that begged for a photo to capture the moment. The spacious rooms were a haven of comfort, and the food was simply amazing. Vicky's expert wine pairings added an extra layer of indulgence to my colleague's dining experiences. The boardwalk, while quite long, felt like a thrilling adventure in the wild, and it was a unique way to immerse ourselves in the surrounding environment. Lion Camp exceeded our expectations in every way, and I couldn't recommend it more. Thank you to Dottie, Vicky, Wayne, and the entire Lion Camp team for making our stay so unforgettable.

Simply sensational. The moment you arrive at this brilliantly secluded camp you know you are somewhere special. The staff and the guides could not be more helpful. The wildlife is incredible, and every corner is a new experience. If you want to see African wildlife in all its raw glory this is the place. I cannot wait to return

The lodge is lovely, the safaris are great, the people are wonderful, and the food is excellent. We loved our stay. Our hosts, Vicky and Wayne, were attentive and engaging. Two beautiful elephants were surprising camp visitors. The hunting lions, the wild dogs and the leopards were excitingly up close and personal, the giant eagle owl and little chameleon surprising sightings - it was all just great!

The food, service and guides are all top notch. The rooms can't be air conditioned but they have an AC system that delivers a gentle blanket of cool air over the bed. It works really well. The water bottles they give you are insulated and keep the water cold and the ice cubes intact even in the 100+ heat. The camp schedule is keyed into that of the animals. Up at 5 for a quick coffee & porridge, then a game drive before it gets too hot. Back around 10 for a full breakfast, then rest during the heat of the day. Lunch at 2 and back out about 3 for more game in the cooler temps until sunset.

We had the most amazing time at Lion Camp - a hidden gem! The tents are very luxurious, with everything you could wish for. The over the bed 'evening breeze' cooling system was most welcome and meant we got a good night's sleep! Watching the wildlife from our private, peaceful verandah was very special. The whole team were very welcoming and couldn't do enough for us and we felt safe around the camp. The food and wine was just fantastic! Our thanks go to guide Simon (and spotter Kelvin) who made sure we got to see as much game as possible. My highlight was seeing six lions feasting on a kill on a night drive. That and countless other memories from our time at Lion Camp will stay with me for a lifetime. Thank you team Lion Camp!

I don’t normally write reviews but this place needed to be praised! Wayne and Vicky and the team were all amazing! The camp itself was so lovely, really beautiful rooms, really comfortable and incredible views overlooking a river which had too many animals to mention in one post. The food was absolutely delicious, wine pared with everything! All the staff were so helpful and friendly. The Safari guides were all amazing too. Big shout out to Innocent who showed us around. We felt really safe with too. The whole camp had great security. Even with a resident elephant that kept coming to say hello. What a treat! If you’re planning a trip on a safari, don’t look anywhere else. We have stayed in around 15 camps all over Africa and Lion Camp is by far the best. Best food and drink Best chance to see animals (seriously incredible) Best staff Best everything! See you next year!

Family of ten stayed 3 nights. Three generations. Excellent service- Vicki, Wayne, Dottie, Oskar and team are warm, welcoming and attentive . Food was top notch - best on our trip - Vicki navigated our numerous allergies and food preferences with ease. The guides were very knowledgeable and skilled. They provided excellent sightings of a wide variety of animals and were engaging and fun. Lounged by the pool between game drives and gazed out at elephant, puku and warthogs wandering by. Rooms are very comfortable with high quality bedding and great private patios. After dinner we shared stories from the day by the fire before retiring to bed. Fell asleep to the sound of the lions calling to each other in the night. Magical place. Hard to say goodbye - we will be back..
