This was a very nice resort with pleasant and large bungalows. We had reserved two bungalows for Three persons but actually one had been sufficient. The AC was under upgrading and was closed down certain hours of the day. The room then becam very hot - but this should be a problem that soon is solved. The staff was extremely nice and helpful, especially the manager! The lounge and restaurant area was also pleasant (although VERY hot) and there were other small huts in the environment where you could sit and read or look at the interesting nature as well. Coffee and a cake was available during the afternoon - very nice. The lodge has two restaurants, and we really recommend the walk up to the Eagle's nest restaurant. The walk was not as hard as anticipated and the views from the…
From the outset we would agree with some previous reviewers that Vingerklip is a bit of a throwback and could use some updates/investment. That said, we had a lovely stay over our two nights and would definitely recommend this place. The greatest asset is the surrounding area which is gorgeous and we enjoyed several walks. The staff were lovely and genuinely seemed like they cared about the lodge and the guests. Management on site were clearly invested in ensuring guests were enjoying themselves. The food was solid and on par for what we had during our two weeks in Namibia. They opened up Eagle's Nest for us to have a drink and the views were beautiful - so peaceful. Wifi is only in the reception or pool area but this didn't bother us - it can be nice to have solid time away…
The position of this place overlooking Vingerklip and two incredible members of Staff ( Helena & Vince - the maintenance contractor ) but sadly let down by many, many years of being unloved by previous owner and not maintained for over 20 years has taken its toll Helena is such an asset and her accommodation of requests was exceptional - thank you for providing an additional room as you were not full for the 3rd in our party ! BUT .... ( information provided by staff ) - The main pool is shown as a highlight on all media & pointed out on arrival BUT has a broken filtration system so is now covered in a green / yellow algae that might even be dangerous to swim in ! - Our room 2a/b had no water for two nights - Vince immediately tried to rectify but the electrical elements…
The Vingerklip Lodge was one of our best accommodations in Namibia. The rooms are quite modern, clean and ours had a great view into the plain to a waterhole. Also the meals and the service were really good, so we can totally recommend to stay at this lodge in the fascinating nature of Vingerklip.
Positive: - the views of course. They are breathtaking. - The main lodge is a very nice place to spend some time and have a drink. - Staff is friendly and considerate. Negative: - they cut off the airco at 11pm (as well as between 7 and 9pm) and won’t turn it back on until 10 am, which makes it hard to sleep at night in summer months. If there is no wind it does not cool down. - WiFi is only available in the common area and very unstable. Trying to pay with credit cards can be a long process. - the rooms are outdated. The furniture and screen windows are old, and our bathroom shower was not in good condition. - food choices at dinner and breakfast are limited and the quality is not always great. We had dinner in the restaurant on top. They told us “there is no extra…
great place in Damaraland with a very nice pool area with lots of relaxing posibilites. There is a restaurant on the top of the hill with a fantastic view and a great place to watch the sunset before having a great dinner!
The lodge is certainly outstanding. Since we had the surprising pleasure of staying on top of the plateau in the Heaven's Gate apartment this was even more memorable. Who would have thought that a bunch of baboons would play around the cottage in the morning. The food was good overall. We would have liked a bit more variety of fresh fruit though at breakfast. What we didn't like so much was that the large pool was not well maintained. But overall a really nice and memorable stay.
This remote lodge proved to be an ideal spot to rest and recuperate half way through our trip. We would have been happy with a standard room here but were pleased we opted to pay for the private chalet called heavens gate. It is 15-20 mins climb from the main complex on top of a mesa and so peaceful. You can take self-guided walks around the two mesas and up to the finger to view the surroundings or just chill by either of the two pools or one of the many lounging decks around the bar/reception area. Breakfast and dinner are buffet style and there was a good choice available.
We stayed at the room "Heaven's Gate", which is the only one placed at the top of the mountain: the view was probably the best you can find in the area and you are all alone up there, meaning you have 100% privacy and the feeling you are on the moon... just fantastic! It is definitely NOT a good idea if you are afraid of heights as you need to walk some seriously steep staircase to get to Heaven's Gate (this is no problem at all for all other rooms). The food at the restaurant "Eagle's Nest" was very good and gives you the chance to try out local cuisine. We were very happy! Wi-Fi only works in the common areas. One only comment is that the room starts giving you the feeling of being old, so a renovation in the near future wouldn't be the worst idea... in any case, we can only…
The lodge is easily accessible off the main road. The lodge is a bit outdated but still a wonderful stopover. The detached houses have a direct view over the veranda to a waterhole. We have seen some wild animals. Highlight is a sundowner followed by dinner on the cliff above with unbelievable views. The lodge is recommended. Value for money is at the top
