We stayed 2 nights at Vingerklip and we thoroughly enjoyed it. The nature around the lodge and the views, both from the lodge/bungalows, and from the Eagle’s Nest restaurant up on the plateau, are in themselves an experience not to miss. Vingerklip Lodge is a destination in itself (see our pictures). The manager in particular was extremely nice and helpful but all staff were very friendly. I simply do not recognise the negative comments a recent reviewer made about the staff, nor the supposedly dire state of the facilities and food. Vingerklip Lodge is a 3-star accommodation and it delivers solidly at that level in a 5-star natural environment. One thing I do agree with is the need to do something about the two pools. They were cleaned thoroughly every morning by the staff but there must be an issue with the filtering system as the water was blurred and I saw no one use them.

This lodge totally took us by surprise and situated in mesmerizing nature scenery. Since the second we arrived the service was just outstanding. I mailed them weeks prior to our arrival for a private room further away from reception and on arrival they didn't disappoint.
The lodge is very well maintained with beautiful gardens and verandahs and 2 swimming pools. The hosts Heinard and Stephany went out of their way to make our stay picture perfect. They are exceptional hosts! They are both an asset to any lodge. We booked the Eagles nest restaurant up on top of the cliff, 8 weeks prior to our arrival and it didn't disappoint. It is an easy 10 minute walk to the top. The restaurant made it very special with an excellent bottle of champagne and a table with a picture perfect view. Thanks Asser for the great service. It's just a pity we didn't book 2 nights or more.

We chose Vingerklip as a stop en route from Etosha to the coast - if we'd known how beautiful the area & the lodge were, we'd have stayed longer, It is isolated, and certainly not on the tourist trail, but if you are looking for amazing scenery, a very tranquil stay and great accommodation, then Vingerkilp is ideal.
By the way,,,,the Eagle's nest restaurant, belonging to the hotel, is perched high above the ground on a cliff top that is only accessible by foot (up a metal stair way that clings to the rock...). Anyone with vertigo (aka me!) should avoid. I made it to the penultimate level and had to opt out:) The food in the restaurant at the lodge on terra firma is lovely, so don't worry if (like me) you don't have a head for heights!!

Absolutely stunning and amazing surroundings. The staff is very friendly, helpful ànd professional." Don' t stand up to get your coffee from the buffet, you will be served with a smile straight away where you are sitting 😊. We were staying only one night 😔.. I could have stayed a month or even more. Unfortunately it didn't rain while we were there. Absolutely necessary for the people living in dry conditions and their livestock and wild animals. . We thought we could bring them the rain.. and the owner promised us one of his bottles of wine 😇. Shame it didn't, so definitely we have to go back.

Hi, thank you for the review, we appreciate it. You are more than welcome to stay a month especially if you have the powers to make it rain. We are still waiting for some, but we are not holding our breath.

We were very confused by all the good reviews of this lodge as unfortunately it was easily the most disappointing of our trip.
Our room felt tired and dated with bulky and mismatched furniture that made the room feel very small. There were lots of paint chips on the walls and furniture and our shower tap had not been properly attached and fell off. It was one of the only places we stayed where there wasn’t a mini fridge in the room (including lodges in equally remote locations). I gather from the lodge's replies to other reviews that they are in the process of updating the rooms, however ours had certainly not been updated. It would have been helpful to have some information provided in a booklet in our rooms (meal times etc) like all the other lodges we stayed in. On the plus side, the room had good air con, a safe and a nice terrace.
The main lodge buildings were well designed with two pools and lots of sitting areas, however again they were very tired with mismatched lounger pillows that didn't fit properly, some with cigarette burns in them. There was an odd "fitness area" with exercise machines that clearly haven't worked in years. Everything just felt quite tired and listless.
Dinner at the Eagle's Nest was fun and the food and service was excellent there. Food in the main lodge was good, but the service was listless and unfriendly at times.
There was not a huge amount to see or do in the area past the walk to Vingerklip - if they manage to bring the lodge up to a higher standard it would potentially be worth a one night stay to break the journey to Etosha, but two nights are wasted here.
Unfortunately this lodge has a lot of work to do to bring it up to the standard of other places we stayed on our trip, which charged a similar price.

I am sorry that you didn't enjoy your stay with us. We are totally off-grid and therefore each electrical appliance is a zero sum game. We would definitely like to have mini-bar fridges and kettles in each room, but then we first need to expand our solar capacity - which will be done in time. I see from your other reviews that you have stay in some super-luxury establishments which are awesome, but you pay also a lot more. That however is not an excuse for paint chips and mismatching lounger pillows, I will ask our maintenance team to sort it out as soon as possible. Thank you for letting us know.

We arrived during the heat of the day at the lodge and were welcomed with cold juice and our baggage brought to our chalet the views from the lodge are spectacular. Dinner was exquisite and the Oryx steak excellent. The second evening we booked dinner at the Eagles Nest restaurant on top of a rock formation next to the lodge. The sunset views are picturesque and again the dinner excellent. The service all over was very friendly and efficient. Thanks very much to Reinhard, Stephanie, Heinz and their teams for an unforgettable experience. Visiting this lodge is highly recommended.

We just loved it. The location is just amazing with its view to the Vingerclip and the eagle nest restaurant where we felt heaven so closed to.
The hotel is a bit older but that is the key why it is so charming. Nothing is rotten. All is in good condition. You find everything there what is needed and even more: two pools (one infinity one and a bigger one), a restaurant and the eagle restaurant on top of the mountain…. And believe it or not a gym with a terrace where you can do yoga while watching the stunning environment including the Vingerclib stone. The managers are very friendly, very good hosts serving nice food and cool drinks. The highlight is definitely the eagle nest restaurant with the best sunset you can imagine. They offer a traditional buffet. Also the breakfast is enjoyable with fresh made omelettes with everything you want.
Even the lodges are very comfortable with a great balcony overseeing the amazing nature. We highly recommend that place. Good price benefit ratio. Just go for it!

We had a wonderful stay at Vingerklip Lodge.
The staff was welcoming and friendly, the room was clean and confortable, overlooking the waterhole with plenty of animals coming to drink the water in the evenings and during the day.
The food was also great, with variety of choice.
Although the Eagle's Nest restaurant was closed as the hotel was short of staff due to Covid, the spot was fully accessible and the views were one of the best (if not the best) in Namibia!

Thank you very much for taking time to review the Vingerklip Lodge. We hope to have the Eagle's Nest up and running again soon, so hopefully the next time you can enjoy not only the sundowner but also a dinner up on the 300 million year old Plateau.

We throughly enjoyed our 2 night stay at this lodge. Surrounded by amazing semidesert scenery with rock formations, the lodge is well designed to blend in with natural rock paths and terraces. The rock gardens are beautifully planted with flowering desert plants from the region. Chalets very comfortable with private patios overlooking the scenery. Two very attractive swimming pools. The entire camp is supplied by solar power including air conditioning. Half board included in the price and considering the remote location the food is excellent - delicious venison both nights. Nice short hikes around the area.

The lodge is located in an absolutely stunning landscape. The whole venue including the bungalows is designed tastefully and integrates nicely in the surroundings. Breakfast and dinner have been delicious. Ist is highly recommended to have dinner at least once in the restaurant on top of the nearby rock, "Eagle's Nest", (reservation needed) which is part of the lodge. Our hosts Stehanie and Reinhard with their team did a great job. Reinhard gave us a lot of very helpful information concerning our ongoing journey based on his extensive knowledge of the country. Highly recommended!

Hi there.
Yes you can. The shorter route would be to drive to Khorixas (C39) and then take the gravel road to Hentiesbaai via Uis (C35). And from there the C34 to Swakopmund. The distance in km is not too long but due to the gravel road it is a good 5-6 hour drive, as you can only drive 80-100 km/h depending on the type of car. You can order lunch packs at the lodge if you'd like. Please let me know if you need more information. Regards, Mareile
