Dramatic vistas, open spaces, unique desert wildlife Damaraland Camp is situated in the Torra Conservancy – an inspirational community partnership – with sensational views of the surrounding desert plains, ancient valleys and distant peaks of the Brandberg Mountains. New technology blends with ancient construction methods to create innovative, eco-friendly luxury in the desert, with the camp’s 10 elevated adobe-styled, thatched units (including a family unit). A spacious, thatched living area is complete with a fireplace, bar, and swimming pool. An open campfire and outdoor 'boma' can be enjoyed during calm evenings. Large game is not concentrated year-round here, with the natural cycle of rainfall dictating the seasonal movement of wildlife along the Huab River, which can be explored from camp.

Our group of 5 travelers stayed at D-camp for 2 nights in 3 different tents. This remote luxurious camp is situated in a beautiful location with mountain vistas and rocky trails to explore right off from the lodge. We arrived by private charter flight into an airstrip 30 minutes from the camp. Upon arrival at the camp, the entire staff gathered and sang a surprise acapella welcome to Damaraland in a way that highlighted their culture, complete with dancing. That was just one of many pleasant surprises they had in store for us. I won't detail all of them so that future travelers can also be surprised. Highlights of the stay included a black rhino safari with the assistance of rhino conservation rangers and also a safari to see up close large herds of desert adapted elephants. Along the way we also saw zebras, giraffes, oryx, springbok and numerous birds. The tent like accommodations were eco-sensitive but also spacious, comfortable and very private feeling. The large porches opened up to a stunning view of desert with layers of mountains beyond. Simply breathtaking. Meals were delicious with both meat and vegetarian options. Tea time snacks were offered daily as well. I can't imagine a better place from which to explore beautiful Damaraland. Highly recommend for anyone happy to disconnect from complex busyness and reconnect with relaxation and simple elegant exploration of phenomenal nature.

Dear sherischrdr, Thank you for your wonderful review and recommendation. Our staff do really enjoy singing and dancing for our guests - this is a big part of their culture and a good way to share stories and customs. We are glad to see you enjoyed this. We are delighted to see how much you enjoyed your stay with us and how many wonderful sightings you enjoyed during your stay - the Oryx are truly a wonderful and underappreciated animal. We hope that you will visit us again soon. Thank you again Wilderness

From the moment we arrived with the team singing a song, nothing was too much trouble. Yes it is a long way and on bumpy roads and it is not going to have the finest for everyone but as a camp it was 10 star. See the photos.

Limbo the guide was great and the whole team catered for everything

I would 250% want to got back for more time

Great location in stunning Damaraland - the camp is a long way from anywhere and that is one of the things that makes it so special. The service and food are great. The staff couldn't be friendlier and more attentive and the bush breakfast at the beginning of a game drive and the barbecue under the stars were real highlights. The scenery is rugged and beautiful: mountains, wide open stretches of sand beloved by ostriches and a surprisingly lush area along a river bed which is home to desert-adapted elephants, giraffes and baboons. It is a bit of a drive from the camp to get to the best game-viewing loactions, but that really didn't matter to us given the quality of our great guide Nicky who is a mine of information on everything from geology, Himba culture and of course the animals themselves.

We stayed at Doro Nawas for 2 nights but would have loved to stay for longer. This is a unique place filled with magnificent sunrises and sunsets, stunning landscape and wonderful hospitality. From the minute you arrive you are greeted with a very warm welcome of songs and drinks to every staff member who makes sure you are treated like royalty. Our guide Mami was very knowledgeable and professional, the chef accomodated our dietary needs and even let us bake with her in the kitchen which was an amazing experience for my kids who love baking and learning new recipes. Chef Francine puts so much love into every dish, she and chef Nathan makes everything from scratch even bake their own bread and make all their deserts. We really had the best time in Doro Nawas.

Wondrously warm welcome in breathtaking scenery. And fully sustained throughout our stay.

As you arrive at the lodge you are greeted by a traditional dance performance by all the staff including the manager and this tone of exceptional service continues throughout the stay

Nothing is too much trouble including flawlessly reorganising the day’s activities to let me meet my partner who was delayed in joining me for our Namibian adventure

Food is deliciously excellent and the dinner outside in the ‘boma’ round a fire is a genuinely one-off must

Well worth including in any Namibia itinerary You won’t be disappointed

Trip Advisor - Damaraland Camp - Namibia
If you want remote, this is the place for you, spent 2 nights here.
Landed at the airstrip for a 1 1/2 hour bone shaking drive to Damaraland…terrible.
Greeted by very friendly staff,Donovan ,Llewellyn and Nicky
Pleasant enough tented room, needed a small fridge or cold drawer and a small heater was needed as the temperature dropped to 6C.
Unfortunately we didn’t have any hot water during our stay so showering in 6C was no fun.lots of excuses from the Maintenance Man , who blatantly lied to me when he said he had tested the water and it was hot….impossible, by their own admission they have a Solar system and as it had been overcast for a while there was no sun. Only after complaining did he make the effort to attach a generator to heat up the water, but too late for us as we left early the next morning.
Only 2 tents occupied during our stay..I can see why.!!
Food was simple but Ok.
The only thing to do there is visit the Unesco Site at Twyfelfontein to see the Bushman Drawings.
Unfortunately its a 1 3/4 hour bone shaking drive there from the camp and of course the same back.
The Bushman Drawings thankfully were wondrous.
Of course friendly staff but not a good stay far too remote ,and we spent nearly 8 hours bone shaking on the drives…terrible…. if our Go2Africa Agent in Capetown had informed us of this remoteness and the long drives we would not have stayed there.

Seeing the desert adapted elephants and black rhino were special.

Be aware, the 6 hour drive from Swakopmund via Uis is horrible as most of the road is in a very bad corrugated state.

The roads in the conservancy are the worse I've seen on any game drive anywhere. The elephant and rhino activities include 4 to 6 hours of being seriously tossed and bumped around on the back of a safari vehicle. If you have back problems you will regret it forever.

The camp, service, staff and room-tent are excellent!

Thank you for your lovely review, we are delighted to see how much you enjoyed your stay with us at camp, and that you enjoyed your fabulous sightings. Desert adapted animals are always wonderful to see. We are sad to see that your experience on the road to our camp was not as expected. The terrain can sometimes cause long and inconvenient drives and are sorry this was the case during your stay. We will be sure to look into this and see if there is anything we can do to make this excursion/journey more comfortable for our guests. Thank you again, Wilderness Safaris

The camp is remote. Access is via a very bumpy road accessible only by 4X4 adding to the sense of this being a real adventure. You are met at the camp by the staff, smiling, singing offering cold drinks and cold towels. The rooms are luxury tents with all amenities, hot water for tea and coffee is available in flasks. There is a small pool. The food is excellent. The views enormous giving a sense of how little significance we are in the big scheme of things. The nights skies are, in themselves, enough to visit this camp for. The game drives with desert elephants up close and personal are excellent.

But it is the staff (mainly recruited locally) who really made this a special place. My husband has mobility problems and he was helped when needed with a tact and discretion which we really appreciated. They were so accommodating and included a visit to the rock paintings at Twyfelfontein at my request.

Damaraland camp takes remote to a new level. Surrounded by dramatic scenery to all points of the compass you sit on the deck and contemplate the enormity of the surroundings and your insignificance in it.
Part of the ethos of this group is to employ staff from the indigenous communities that pepper the landscape. As a result the staff and guides are extremely knowledgeable and are happy to help, and you know that your visit is directly benefitting the community.
The huts are well spaced and appointed. We visited in winter so no need for the mosquito nets which give your room the safari camp look. Your water is heated by the continuous sun throughout the day.
The food is superb with a couple of delicious choices at every meal. Wines from South Africa complete the meal.
From here go on a sun-downer drive and a nature drive - we saw elephant, springbok, giraffe, ostrich, and a multitude of birds

Went back here for the second time and plan to go again. It is so peaceful, the guides are wonderful (know their stuff, very flexible), and the staff is beyond perfection. Our guide (Immanuel), the managers (Helen, Llewyn), cook (Josephine), and wait staff (Emmy, Donovan) plus so many others were ready to provide top-notch service at all times. Every staff member was very gracious in helping my husband (mobility issues) get around. The food was exceptional as were the drinks. Don't miss the evening meal in a "special place" or the loo with the view or one or more sundowner. Can't wait to go back!

Hello, Fully inclusive includes all meals, drinks, laundry services as well as two daily activities. Where as DBB you will need to pay in camp for your lunch, drinks and activities - the rates for which are provided in camp. The guided activities are a wonderful way to explore the area as our guides are very informative and friendly. Hope that helps and enjoy your time with us. Tenneil Zondagh
