We stayed over at Club Mak on our way to Likoma Island. The location is great right on the shores of the lake, and it has it's own private landing strip, which is exceptionally convenient for a fly in, which is what we do. Facilities are very well maintained, chalet's well equipped and the service is of typical friendly Malawian hospitality. We are looking forward to be back in September 2019 for a longer stay over.

Makokola Retreat is a fabulous location for a getaway on Lake Malawi. The older rooms are comfortable but basic. There is a new section with stunning modern rooms which is more expensive than the older rooms, and has it's own swimming pool and leisure area. There is also a stunning honeymoon suite in the new section. We have just returned from a wonderful wedding weekend at Makokola - as a wedding venue it ticks all the boxes and they have mastered the art of putting these large events together seamlessly. The food was great, the bar was well stocked, the swimming pools are beautiful, the beach and lake are stunning. Makokola Retreat is not a cheap destination but I would highly recommend it.

We reached in afternoon. We had a good lunch with Italian Pizza.Room was good . We enjoyed beach view from our hotel. The whole property is well maintained and well decorated. Early morning sunrise view was also good. As compare to price though I think room should be more better and at least they should provide Wifi facilities . Swimming pool is very good.

As we had paid lots of money we thought will get a very good hotel but was not to be , we got there about 9pm and was dark were were given rooms which were like old huts and had no towels and no drinking water also , was so hot fans not working so had to call and get more and no communication from room to reception so had to walk lots at night just to get to reception to order and the receptionist didn’t know the hotel telephone number that we can call him from room with our mobile, breakfast was the worst well below standard as we were told that dining room was in construction, had a chat with the owner who is an Italian person very nice and told him all when we were leaving and he was also not happy about what had happened, and very apologetic , also we could not use one of

one night in the brand new lake suites. beautiful new lake suites with excellent decoration and air conditioning. very classy resort. safe and comfortable. great food and drinks. beautiful location and clean. my only concern was the lack of contribution from the senior management team who barely spoke to us during our stay. its seemed like they were far too busy with their own agengas on site.more interaction with guests is needed. waiters and food staff/bar staff were excellent. infinity pool and bar are awesome.
