My partner and I stayed at the Sunset Villa and were blown away by the level of detail, the tastefulness and the luxury we found. We're fairly experienced travellers within Malawi and have seen a number of places the country has to offer. The Makokola retreat, however, has been able to set itself apart with the latest addition of rooms ( Lake Suites and the Stunning Sunset Villa). The interior design clearly was well thought of and is very tasteful in every way. Everything also functions perfectly, from the AC to the mini-fridge to the satellite TV (even the plugs that pop up from the floor!). The Sunset villa with its private pool was absolutely the cherry on top, service was great with friendly bar staff and waiters. We decided we wanted to play tennis at 7pm and the…
The staff are excellent and really friendly. The gardens are beautiful. The rooms that we were in had no air conditioning, the TV did not work. When we asked about the TV we were told the cut the cables when they build the restaurant. When I went to shower there was no hot water. I had to walk to reception to get maintenance to put the geyser on. I then also asked for a bath plug which never arrived. There was only a buffet And no option of a A le cart menu. The buffet was covered with nets to keep the flies off . The flies sat on the nets .There was no option of room service. I really would not call this a three star hotel and not worth the price paid. I did talk to the manager who said he would talk to the owner. I heard nothing after that.
We returned to the Makokola Retreat on a recent tour to Malawi. The new Lake Side Chalets are exclusively appointed and offer stunning views onto the immaculate lake beach. A very trusted place, to return to, with great Malawian hospitality. We'll be back again!
Despite the distance from the reception to the new suites this place is so beautiful 🔥🔥🔥 I would visit over and over again....the food is so delicious & the cocktails are out of this world. Thumbs up club mak!
My father once invited me to spend a weekend here back when it was called Club Makokola and even then, it had paradisical (if that's not a word I am making it a word) qualities about it. A couple of weekends ago my father again invited me to join him there and he was accommodated in the new wing. Again, wow! The rooms are spacious and modern, so different from the old rooms and definitely a first in my Malawi hotel experience. The food, whilst it did not blow my mind away definitely satisfied the important bits and the staff were really helpful especially once they realised I wasn't some nut! All in all, it's a great place with stunning grounds and views and pools! Will definitely go and spend a longer time there.
