This lodge is priced for what you get offered. The tents are really spacious and very well kitted out and maintained. We did not eat there (we just slept the night there as we were stranded at short notice) but the staff were very friendly and the setting is lovely. In comparison to their overpriced sister lodge Polentswa up north, I would rather come back to Rooputs for a full service. The situation is very well placed to see decent game on drives.

We were fortunate to be invited to Rooiputs lodge and spent a few hours being shown the various amenities they had to offer. We enjoyed drinks on the gorgeous deck overlooking the water hole and experienced amazing sightings of lions.

Leon also accompanied us on a game drive and we were again spoilt with lion sightings.

Beautiful lodge and gracious and welcoming staff.

Loved it

In general, I enjoyed my stay at Rooiputs. I even managed to see a leopard come to the waterhole in the evening.

I only have one complaint and it is that the tents became too cold both at night and during the daytime. There needs to be better insulation.

I've seen bad reviews of Rooiputs by people who wanted air con, ceiling fans and a full swimming pool at all times amongst other things. This is ridiculous. Rooiputs is in the middle of the Kgalagadi with solar electricity supplemented by a geyser and while that's enough for light and warm showers it obviously can't supply air con and so on. The water is purified from a very salty borehole and is in short supply which is why the tiny plunge pool is often empty. If you want city luxury don't go to the bush.

The cabins are beautifully appointied with nice bathrooms and an outside shower - good linen and towel. Drinking water is supplied in the rooms. The views are lovely so it is nice to just sit and look out.

Mercy, the manager goes out of her way to be friendly and helpful. The chef manages on the supplies sent all the way from Gaberone really well and made an effort to make gluten free food for me. The rest of the staff were just lovely both Rooiputs and Polentswa are very special places.

I wouldn't be writing a review if it wasn't for the fact that our experience was a complete waste on money. I felt like it was only fair to warn anyone else who is thinking of booking. I also don't believe the rest of the reviews on google are by genuine guests. While the staff were friendly it seemed that every other guest was having the same experience as us on the trip or even worse. Other guests were left stranded on their game vehicle when it broke down as the guide left them there and caught a lift back to the lodge with no plan to get them back at all. The food was horrendous (almost inedible) accompanied by almost every other guest either not eating their food or sending it back (think pap, canned food and the toughest unidentifiable piece of meat you've ever encountered). Our guide did nothing but drive us around on the same roads we'd driven ourselves, he was more of a driver than a guide. There are no lodge roads and you just drive the same main route up and down with all the other tourists which makes the game drives nothing special at all especially because the guide doesn't actually guide or spot at all. We really didn't enjoy our stay and if you are looking for an honest review to make up your mind please just don't waste your money. It's abundantly clear that the lodge owner takes all the money and has no care for the staff and equipping them with any kind of resource to run this lodge properly (not even uniforms or decent food). As we left we had a long conversation with guests visiting from Botswana who were fuming as they've never experienced anything this bad in their home country. There was also a group from the UK who were constantly complaining and I could see they were so uncomfortable about having to complain all the time and this experience was ruining their trip. There is absolutely no way I would ever recommend this place and I wish we had spent our last 2 nights camping, eating properly and not being completely ripped off along with all the other guests.

Appalling service. Not worth the money. Only go there if you can’t find somewhere else to stay. Don’t expect much. Constant problems with hot water not working. Maintenance all very poor. Food very average. Game drives dull.. and no sun downer drinks.

Stunning location and lay out . However in dire need of maintenance . Food below average . Staff tried but left hardly any resources to make due . It has the potential to be a jewel in Botswana side of Kgalagadi.

I write this review as i didnt get any response from the management of this lodge who i wrote a personal email.
Positive things : The lodge is very nice located in the KTP and the staff was very friendly.
But thats All !
There is a big big lack of management in this nice lodge.
First dinner was just a joke ...
On one of the sundowners our guide was even not able to find the right place where the table and food should be served, on another one were driven to the campsite ( imagine what the campers thought ..)
Game drives were not the standard we expect for this very high price and to be really honest
The guide we had , even he was as well very friendly was miles away from lodges we have visited on our last 9 trips to Africa. If you dont know the difference between a black wildebeest and a blue one , if you cant tell me what the name of an owl we saw is ( even a local guy from Gabarone knew it ) then ...
Even the maintanance of the lodge was very poor.
And finally it is a NO GO that during our stay , the lodge was visited by people who were drunk
who apparently wanted to know the rates but were fooling around !
We were really disappointed because with a good management this lodge could be a jewel in the KTP but for us it was biggest flop on all our trips.

Given the rates and announced services, we had high expectations for this camp. The place is superb, the view magnificent. The tents are quite nice and comfortable. We were so happy & lucky to stay there!
But... the package comes with activities, such as game drives and we were looking forward to them. We were welcomed by a "the ranger is taking a day off"... i.e. you're on your own. No compensation, nothing else to say.
The staff were just OK: they care more about their recurrent, local, customers. If you're an international visitor, they won't do much for you. So it seemed to us, as the other guests had quite a nicer treatment, and a ranger with a car.
There were also several mix-ups with basic requests...
Since this is a highly expensive place, I wouldn't recommend it: not worth the money given our poor experience. Too bad as, again, the location is magnificent.

We were a group of six Camping at Rooiputs. For 5 days in a row we had to listen to the lodge generator until 22h30 each night. The lodge staff were not willing to silence this generator. The manageress was not available to speak to the campers. We reported the issue to the reception at twee rivière and were only given one nights reprieve before the racket started the following morning and evening.
Such a pity that this much sort after camp site is ruined by bad planning on the lodges behalf. The generator was placed on a tyre in the open right outside staff quarters deafening their environment and annoyingly the campers. But nothing can be heard at the lodge of course. No planning for a brick housing for the generator was made. The rangers there had no idea when the problem would be sorted.
