Detailed Reviews
This motel, formerly 'Mick's Motel', and now "America's Best Value Inn", is possibly one of the worst motels I've ever stayed in. Although the front desk service was friendly, the rooms are marginally acceptable. There are bedbugs in the rooms(woke up with red bites.!!) and when I went to turn in for the night, I pulled down the comforter and sheet and wished I hadn't. The sheets were yellowed and a bit stained and the mattress was stained with brown and black stains (I don't even want to THINK about what these were from.). I'd heard that this motel was supposed to be re-renovated. From what I've seen, they haven't spent ANY money on the rooms at all. Save your money and go to a maybe more $$ but defintely CLEANER motel. Health dept. should check into this place!!

Was up in this area previewing SUNY NEW Paltz!
Convenient for the School Visit
The room was moderately clean, their looked to be a small leak with brown stuff coming out (dried) on one of the walls.
They need a box of tissues in the room!
They need bigger Towels!
They need pillow TICS on the pillows to protect fro soilage and an upgraded pillow would help!
The heat work fine but was very noisy and shut on and off all night.
The cable service was spotty - on and off.
The shower was good.
The breakfast was good.
The WIFI was good.
Good values for the money - certainly not perfect.
Also the hardware in the room and caulking looked to be done by an amateur handyman

First, let me say that I do a lot of traveling so I always stay in cheap hotels to save money. I also have never written a review before but this place was so bad I feel that people should be warned. The pictures they have on their website make it look reasonable but it doesn’t look close to that . They must have one model room they fixed up to take the pictures on their website. The ceiling was coming down in multiple places and every piece of furniture in the room was falling apart and extremely old. I’m pretty sure there was mold in places too since there was obvious water damage all over the ceiling and walls. I was supposed to have a non smoking room which I clearly wasn’t given since there was an ash tray in the room that wasn’t even clean. I also found clear evidence of drug use. There was a needle wrapper in the room as well as a small baggie that I can only imagine what was in it since there was some white powdery residue left in it. There was no sheet on my bed and I couldn’t even take a relaxing shower since the water constantly went from hot to cold even when I wasn’t touching the handle. The entire place was a total dump. It was so bad that I took pictures of everything I have described so if anyone wants to know what it really looks like before you book here feel free to my pics in this review. They moved me to another room my second day there and it was equally as bad as my first room. There weren’t even any towels in my second room. I’m a small guy and the towels weren’t even big enough to go around me and were the cheapest quality you can buy and were super scratchy. There’s not even a phone in the room if you do need something. If you need internet you can forget it. They say they have it but it never works and the rare occasion it does work it is crazy slow. I had work to do and was forced to go somewhere else to use the internet. Once I even got an error message saying they only have 10 licenses available so no more than 10 people can be in their internet at one time. That’s just ridiculous. I wouldn’t stay at this place for $20 a night and they are charging $90 a night for a run down, dirty place where nothing works. This place should not even be allowed to be in business.

This place is disgusting and the man at the office was a complete jerk. We woke up at 4:30 in the morning to find the headboard of the bed infested with dozens of large bedbugs, and one fell out of my girlfriend's hair. I picked up the phone outside of the office to speak with the manager. This guy did not care, nor did he want to even talk to me about it. He told me to come back later. I waited 3 hours and finally he came down to talk to me. He told me he had never seen these things before and it was probably my fault. After I showed him the pictures I had taken he finally agreed to refund my money through Priceline. A few days later I found out that he only offered me a partial refund. This guy insulted me, lied to me, and runs a dirty bedbug infested establishment. Do not ever stay here.

Response from Neil R, Manager at Americas Best Value Inn - HighlandPoughkeepsie
Responded 18 Nov 2011
I am very sorry for the inconvenience you experienced at our hotel. We take complaints of this type seriously, and investigate all claims. The comfort and safety of our guests is our top priority. When you came to the office at 4:30AM you were offered an alternate accommodation, but you opted to leave. The room has since been treated for the problem you encountered. Because it was a Priceline reservation, you were told that you needed to take it up with Priceline, and that they would contact us, which is what happened. When Priceline was asked my General Manager what you wanted as compensation for your troubles, they said you were not asking for anything, just wanted us to know that the problem existed. My General Manager therefore offered the partial refund, and Priceline accepted this. Once again, I am sorry for your troubles, and hope that we can be given a second chance to serve your lodging needs in a more comfortable way. Parbat Khunti, Property Manager

At check- in the manager on duty/owner Yogi was incredibly rude to the family checking in ahead of us. While we were checking in he was on the phone yelling at someone that he doesn't issue refunds. Not the best way to start off our stay. We checked in and went to our room. It smelled very strongly of disinfectant as soon as we walked in. There were only 2 towels and 2 washclothes in a room for a family of 4. My husband went to the front desk and Yogi grumbled but gave him a stack of "towels" which turned out to be bathmats. The room wasn't super cool so my husband checked the AC unit-there was no filter in it and it was clogged with dust. Same story with the exhaust fan in the bathroom. So caked with dust it was blowing it out. There was mold in the corner of the shower as well. Add in some boogers(snot) stuck to the bathroom wall and wall next to the bed and this place is a gem to stay at. The real kicker- a smoke alarm from 1980 w/ no battery in it. My husband notified the desk of the issues and was told nothing could be done. At check-out we told the young kid at the desk of the problems again and he wrote them in a book to "be addressed". I showed him the pictures I took and he just shrugged his shoulders and chuckled. Overall one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever encountered.

BED BUG ALERT! BED BUG ALERT!
I checked in on Friday, August 21, and like I do in all hotels, checked the bed for bugs and found one, immediately. I went back to reception and told them I needed a full refund, which they granted. The attendant did not seem surprised or concerned when I told him about the bedbugs. I will not be going back, but if you do find yourself staying there, DO A FULL CHECK IMMEDIATELY and try to have a back-up location at the ready!

This was by far the worst motel we have ever stayed in. The rooms were disgusting. The sheets were scratchy. The mattresses were old and sagging. The bedspreads were worn and looked like they had burn marks. The bathroom was "remodeled" with a glass shower enclosure. Which wasn't safe, because the water went from burning to freezing with no warning, and you couldn't get out of the stream of water. The toilet seat wasn't the proper size for the toilet, so sitting on it (if brave enough to do so) meant sitting on the porcelain. The biggest spider I have ever seen was waiting under the pillow. And large dogs in the rooms above and next door could be heard barking and scratching the floors late at night and early morning. If any reviews say it is clean, and fine for one night's rest, they are wrong!!! Don't stay here!

I stayed in a non-smoking king bed room.
Bed bug excrement on the fabric headboard. Dried brown muck stuck on the comforter. The bed was hard - and I don't mean firm, like a firm mattress would be - I mean stiff and flat. White powdery dust on the wooden panels on the headboard. Thick layer of dust on all lamps. Each light fixture and lamp only had one working lightbulb instead of both bulbs working. Remote control was dirty and oily. Cobwebs on light fixtures in the bathroom. Shower stall was tiny (like, cruise-ship tiny), which should be switched out for larger shower or shower/bath combo, since the bathroom is so large. Water temperature in the shower was not consistent, it would periodically become unbearably hot, so I had to keep hopping in and out. Toilet seat and cover were flimsy. Leaky faucet. Between the hard bed and the evidence of bed bugs, I hardly slept.
The cherry on top of our stay was that there were two mattresses and two box springs standing in the far corner of the parking lot. Closer inspection revealed bug bed excrement on the tops and bottoms of the items, concentrated in the corners (as bed bugs tend to do). This is no way to discard infested items, leaving them unwrapped.
Thank you, America's Best Value Inn at Highland NY, for a quick, scalding shower in your cramped shower stall, and for the lousy nap in your uncomfotable, dirty bed. And thank you for making me have to inspect every bag and piece of clothing I brought with me, to make sure no critters hitched a ride with me.
The only positives were: 1) the floor was not carpeted, which is just a personal preference. However, I had dirt sticking to my feet. If you have a hard floor, it's easy to keep it barefoot-clean, there's no excuse for the floor to be dirty. 2) The air conditioning was nice and strong, and easy to control. 3) Check-in and check out were quick and easy. 4) My room was a non-smoking room and it didn't smell like smoke at all.
For the free breakfast, when you check in you are given a card that you redeem at the cafe around the corner from the inn office. The card had been reused from a previous guest - it had a different room number and old date on it that were crossed out, which is tacky. If management want to be green (or cheap) and reuse those cards, they shouldn't write anything on them at all. The card is redeemable for a small coffee and a bagel with one topping. I was told the cafe opens at 8am on Sundays, which is late if you're traveling and need to get back on the road.
