#3 of 8 Speciality lodging in Matobo National Park - The Matopos
Big Cave Camp reposes atop an enormous granite whaleback commanding inspirational views across the famous Matobo National Park. Big Cave Camp has a four star lodge with restaurant, as well as a well equipped camp site with adjacent Ndebele village. Sophisticated African architecture incorporates colossal boulders into a luxuriously appointed thatched lodge positioned amidst ancient Khoisan rock art.Retire at a day's end to the natural rock-pool and sundeck, the Leopard`s Lair lounge and bar, a cave-style boma for pre-dinner drinks or the popular lodge library. The seven thatched A-frame lodges, each with en-suite bathroom and private balcony, resonate African creative flair.Find solitude within an intimate retreat as secluded as the original Kalanga grain bins that nestle amongst the rocks.

One of the best camp sites on our Zimbabwe tour. Brown was very helpful and assisted with al that we needed. Clean ablutions with piping hot water, electricity and enough free firewood. Big camp site under large trees with impala visiting every day. Close to Matobo National Park

Thanks so much for the review, and we are thrilled that you had a wonderful stay in the campsite. Brown is our longest serving employee at just under 20 years with Big Cave, so he certainly knows the ropes! Would appreciate it if you could also post onto some of the 4 x 4 blogs! Best Dave Waddy

Booked for a Sunday lunch with 15 people. Ordered two course and asked for a roast and veg. Arrived with SA visitors and got Spaghetti, mince and salad. Food ran out before all 15 served and had to ask if there was more food! What a disappointment. Expected so much more.

Thanks for the review. Can I ask who offered you roast and veg? We do not standardly allow people other than guests to have lunch, this is done on a request basis. What is normally on offer is the standard lunch we offer the other guests in camp. This is a light lunch as guests have roast and veges etc for dinner, so we are never going to repeat that again at lunch. Apologies for your false expectation however I would very much like to know whom offered you this?? Best Regards Dave

We stayed at Big Cave Camp for two nights and enjoyed every minute of it, from the memorable drive up the rock, to the dinners at the big family table and waking up early to track the beautiful rhinos. Lynn and her staff are very kind, professional and warmhearted, the food is delicious and the rooms very comfortable. We hope to return soon and can fully recommend this lodge!

We spent 3 delightful days at Big Cave enjoying the stupendous views of the Matopos Hills, excellent food and guiding by Shepherd. Big Cave is well located to the game reserve and many beautiful caves, hills and walking trails. Throughly recommened.
