Can’t rave enough about Big Cave Camp and the incredible hospitality, food and experiences we had. The setting, atop a massive rock outcrop is amazing. Essentially the lodge is built amongst all the boulders that make up the vast landscape. There are even bush paintings on site. The manager, Lin Goodwin, was a wonderful hostess. Ask her about the leopard in the lodge story! Our guides were fabulous- friendly, knowledgeable and fun! The food was excellent. We wanted for nothing. They arranged a thrilling rhino viewing, cave tours and awesome hikes. We visited local schools and homes, which we highly recommend. Life there is juuuust a little different than what you may be experiencing. This is not the place where you’ll safari like in Kruger or Hwange. More desert-like…
What a wonderful and surprising lodge! It is built directly into the hills and gigantic boulders of the region. The rooms are very comfortable with nice working showers. Dining is delicious and it is fun to meet other guests in the dining room or around the nightly bonfire. There are multiple tours you can elect to participate in for an added fee. We did the Rhino Tracking Tour, World's View and Cave Painting Tour, and the sundowner safari and hike. All were worth the fee and added so much to the trip. Stay here for the beautiful views and the extreme uniqueness of staying amongst the boulders!
The view from this camp is breath taking. From our leopard chalet (family chalet) we could look out on the rocks in front of it or on the the opposite side. We will never forget the evening walk with Sherpard, which was very informative and sort of adventurous. The Matobo National Park nearby has a lot to see.
Located on the edge of the matobo national park, a jewel in the southern Africa landscape. The Big Cave is a wonderful location and the experience is enhanced by great service, good wholesome food and one of the best guiding teams we have met.
