Big Cave Camp reposes atop an enormous granite whaleback commanding inspirational views across the famous Matobo National Park. Big Cave Camp has a four star lodge with restaurant, as well as a well equipped camp site with adjacent Ndebele village. Sophisticated African architecture incorporates colossal boulders into a luxuriously appointed thatched lodge positioned amidst ancient Khoisan rock art.Retire at a day's end to the natural rock-pool and sundeck, the Leopard`s Lair lounge and bar, a cave-style boma for pre-dinner drinks or the popular lodge library. The seven thatched A-frame lodges, each with en-suite bathroom and private balcony, resonate African creative flair.Find solitude within an intimate retreat as secluded as the original Kalanga grain bins that nestle amongst the rocks.

Big Cave Lodge was a highlight of my trip. The lodge is nestled into it's surroundings giving you the ultimate experience of the mountains with it's rocks, the wildlife, and the most incredible birdlife of the area. The hikes and game drives with the guide was well worth it, making one appreciate the diversity of the culture of the area. It was truly a magical experience and look forward to returning to.

Having read in The Getaway Magazine that the Big Cave Camp is ranked one of the 15 best safari lodges in Africa, I needed to check this out. The magazine is right. It probably is THE best camp in Africa overall, when considering all relevant factors: service, accessability, room standards, food, affordability, nature and wildlife. It is somewhat of a hidden gem, tucked away in an area, the Matopos, not so well known by overseas tourists. I spent an entire week at the Big Cave Camp in mid-2011, and to make a long story short (service, lodging and food was perfect) I would like to focus on the wildlife aspect: The Camp has game - including resident leopards - on its property and can arrange morning or evening game drives with knowledgable guides. Not far away are two fantastic

We were a group of five traveling from Sweden to celebrate a friends birthday with some fun activities. Most of us had done trips before to African destinations over the years, so we had high expectations and they were more than met. Big Cave Lodge is located 40 minutes by car from Bulawayo. We had arranged with the lodge to pick us up in the city. Bulawayo itself is a piece of history and deserves visit. The lodge consists of a main building where meals are served. Guests eat together, this is a fun and easy way to meet interesting people and share stories. This is also the place for the bar. Accomodation is in lodges with twin beds, I only saw three so maybe there are other configurations. Our room had a small balcony with outdoor seating, bathroom and shower. Also daily
