When we arrived we thought it might be closed. But then our host appeared and showed us to our hut (which was basic, but enormous) and to the reception/bar. Beds were very comfortable, and the huts have fans (when the power works). There’s also a swimming pool just behind the restaurant, but unfortunately it was empty during our stay. We appeared to be the only guests but that just added to the atmosphere of solitude. As often happens in Zimbabwe we suffered a couple of lengthy power cuts, but candles were in ready supply. And they managed to prepare beautiful cooked dinners and breakfasts without power, which was most impressive. Our host was very helpful, and went out of his way to make things up when things outside his control went wrong (ie. when the external provider who was booked to take us to watch sunrise at the World’s View was two hours late). He went us far as coming into Bulawayo railway station at our drop off to help us get the tickets we wanted. If you’re looking for all-inclusive luxury lodge accommodation this isn’t it. But for a reasonably priced stay right on the edge of Matopos National Park, with a host that will do all in his power to make you comfortable, I highly recommend.

We stayed with Scott and Annie at the Matobo Ingwe Lodge not long after it had been reopened after many years lying vacant. The rooms were very nice and the service excellent. A nice little bar to enjoy a drink in the evening. The pool has just been refurbished and although we didn't get to see it full - it will be great. The lodge is right in the Matobo Park so it was close to undertake our safari both in a vehicle and on foot. The cave paintings on the property are impressive and well worth the time to go and view. We were privileged to be able to walk up to a group of 4 white rhino as they rested - we were probably 15 mitres away from them - amazing. Ask Annie to take you up to the lodge kitchen so you can see all the Dassie's that live out on the rocks. There were monkeys in the trees and while we didn't get to see them we could hear them! The food was great. I wish Scott and Annie all the best for the future of the lodge - it is well worth taking the time to go and stay there!
