Mana Pools National Park is situated on the banks of the mighty Zambezi River where you will find John's Camp nestled amongst canopies of Trichelia and Mahogany trees. It is a truly natural wilderness and the only wild walking National Park in Africa. Across the vast floodplain one can walk with the giants - our African Bull elephants, dine amidst herds of buffalo, gaze upon prides of lion, enjoy sundowners with hippos on the banks of the Zambezi River and bird watch over 400 species of birds. The camp comprises of 10 beds, made up of 5 twin or double en-suite Meru style tents, a common dining area and a star gazing sleep-out platform for the more adventurous safari traveller. 5 Meru style canvas tents under a double fly sheet make up the compliment of 10 beds. Each tent has en-suite bathroom facilities with flush loo and overhanging safari-style bucket showers. Inside the tent is a lit changing area complete with a running water basin. With privacy in mind, the tents are generously spaced out along the floodplain adjacent to the Zambezi River. The dining area is centrally located between the tents, positioned in thick shade, and there is a campfire overlooking the floodplain for evening cocktails and snacks before dinner.

We loved this camp - from being met at the landing stage (after a great speedboat trip) by our guides Obert and Derrison, to leaving in the early morning light with a pride of seven lions walking through camp - we had a great experience.
Mana Pools is a lovely park, the park was extremely dry when we were there and we hope that there have been good rains this year.
The team looked after us so well, the food was fantastic and the standard of the guiding excellent.
A real away from it all experience - we love the fact that there isn't WiFi!!

Johns Camp was the perfect way to end our 10 day trip to Zimbabwe. With only 6 guest tents there was an intimate and homely feel to the place. Its a seasonal camp set up every year and has a feel of rustic elegance that we loved. Johns Camp offers both game drives and walks with the latter being highly recommended if you are visiting Mana Pools. The tents were simple but very comfortable, and tastefully and thoughtfully designed and furnished. Food was more homestyle cooking but delicious and satisfying. Evening drinks and dinner with other guests and the guides was a great time to share stories and learn more about Mana Pools and Zimbabwe.

The staff were a highlights of our stay. Everyone did their part to perfection and we enjoyed the casual vibe of the camp. Our guide Richard was quiet and unassuming but was knowledgable, safety conscious and tried hard to find us the animals that we were particularly interested in, as well the right light for photography. The camp manager Tawanda was always around greeting us with a cold towel, a big smile and a warm "welcome back" when returning from a drive. The head guide Mark was a nonstop source of entertainment and made for great dinner conversations.

A highlight of the trip was meeting John Stevens, former park warden after whom the came is named. John was as excited to meet us as we were to meet him and we enjoyed a great campfire conversation about Zimbabwe, wildlife and our shared passion for cricket :)

Mana Pools is a special place. Early morning walks among the albida woodlands among browsing elephants and other herbivores, and watching lions resting by the Zambezi while having sundowners will remain iconic memories. We look forward to returning to Mana Pools and Johns Camp.

Dear Nishan P Thank you so much for sharing your delightful experience at John's Camp on TripAdvisor. We are truly honored to have been a part of your memorable 10-day journey in Zimbabwe. We are thrilled to hear that John's Camp provided the perfect ending to your trip and your endorsement of our game drives and walks, especially in Mana Pools, means a lot to us. Our team is indeed a special part of John's Camp, and your kind words about the staff's dedication and the casual vibe of the camp mean a lot to us. It's heartwarming to know that Richard, Tawanda, and Mark, along with the rest of our team, played their part to perfection and made your stay enjoyable. The hospitality at John's Camp was as warm as the African sun. We picked this tented camp becaue it is small and serene with spectacular views. The tents are very well appointed and very comfortable. The Star Bed added to the adventure of being in a very special place. The cuisine was very good. October is very hot but one of the best times for game viewing and bird watching. Being able to get out of the Cruiser and walk on foot to observe animals at a close but safe distance separates it from most of the great African parks. Tip of the hat to Mark our guide. His 38 years of experience, incredible knowledge of Mana Pools' flora, fauna and natural history made a great experience deeply enriching. Thanks to the wonderful Camp Manager Towanda, Whiskey and Rex who made sure our time at John's Camp was a delight and a place to return to.

John's Camp is the perfect seasonal camp situated on the banks of the Zambezi but within "game drive" distance of Mana's famous four pools and the Mana Main Airstrip.
Named after the legendary Safari Guide and ex Park Warden John Stevens, the camp is now owned and managed by his daughter and son-in-law together with Robin Pope Safaris.
Together with the excellent team managed by Tawana in camp and Mark on the game drives, John's camp offers the perfect degree of comfort and personal touch to make your Mana trip a highlight.

I wish we could go back again and again. The camp at Mana Pools is rather remote, making getting there an adventure by itself. Once we were there, we were made to feel like the most important guests they had all season! The service was more than one would expect at a lodge let alone at a tented camp site! The meals were wonderful and the setting is so beautiful.
We also had outstanding experiences on safari. No guide can guarantee what animals you will see but Richard, our guide, checked with other guides in the park to learn of animal sightings. He also knew the park well and got us to sites where others missed out! He even made learning about the various birds we spotted interesting.
I highly recommend John’s Camp for a great glamping experience. We were there for four days and we really got to disconnect. It was so carefree, I felt like a kid on summer vacation! Kudos to Tawonda (camp manager), Richard (our guide), and all the staff!

My wife and I ended our honeymoon in Mana Pools and spent 4 nights at John's Camp. The team at the camp did a great job making us feel comfortable, greeting us and letting us settle in upon arrival before we did an afternoon drive with Mark, the lead guide at John's Camp. Mark is a gem and has an abundance of knowledge across a wide range of topics.

One of the great things about John's Camp is the ability to do both game drives and walking safaris. Both Mark and Obie were professional and were able to balance educating us and allowing us to take in the beauty of Mana Pools.

The food is fresh and the meals were great. Tawana does a great job managing the camp and everything was perfectly orchestrated from start to finish. We would both highly recommend staying here and hope to be back in the future!

A simply stellar safari experience! From the moment Tawanda, the manager, met us at the airstrip we knew we were in good hands. Our party of 6 adults never wanted for anything. The cuisine was well beyond expectations - how they do it in such a remote area is beyond me. Our guide, Mark, put us on just about every animal we could’ve hoped for. We tracked and saw lion, leopard, painted dog and hyena. On our first night, at dinner, lions came through the camp, having the audacity to interrupt a birthday celebration. A few nights later, hyena decided to join us for our barbecue dinner! And elephants abound and could be around any corner at any time!

This is a true bush camp, where it is disassembled every season. The accommodations were very comfortable and always clean. Be prepared for “bucket” showers and toilet facilities at your tent to be under the stars. But private and clean and really part of the experience. Just like having elephants and hippos walking right past your tent in the middle of the night while grazing on the trees!

John’s camp is a real bush experience.
Luxury style!
The tents are spacious and the bucket showers amazing. We loved the little card in our room. Thankyou.
The stargazing bed experience is a must. In fact it was so hot this was the best place to sleep.
The food was very good and plenty of it.
All the staff are so friendly.
Mr T is an excellent manager. He showed us round the camp and all its facilities and explained how everything gets packed away at the end of the season. What hard work that must be.
You can understand what you are paying for.
October is an extremely hot month to travel and everywhere was dry and dusty.
But game viewing was good.
Thanks to everyone for making our last stop very special!
