Travellers' Choice
Bumi Hills Safari Lodge and Spa boasts one of Africa’s finest wilderness locations with an elevated position on a range of remote hills overlooking the vastness of Lake Kariba. Bumi is situated near the North Eastern border of the Matusdona National Park and is easily accessible by light aircraft and boat, allowing you to be swiftly transported into paradise without the stress of a long journey. The safari lodge has a total of 10 rooms, all with views over Lake Kariba. All rooms are premium rooms with balconies and uninhibited views over Lake Kariba. There are garden rooms available too, reserved for guides and tour leaders, with slated terraces, set a little way back behind and on a level above the premium rooms. Taking centre stage is the beautiful infinity pool that seems to blend endlessly into the lake horizon. The pool is surrounded by intimate wine and dining terraces on different levels. The lodge interiors have been beautifully finished in a fusion of contemporary western and African styles. Bumi Hills Safari Lodge is situated on an extensive wildlife conservation area. Bumi Hills is home to lion, leopard, big herds of elephant and buffalo, as well as a multitude of different plains game. Guests can indulge in superb fishing in the lake waters surrounding the safari lodge with bream and the fighting tiger fish in abundance. Birding and cultural experiences (with the rich local Tonga culture) also abound. Bumi Hills Safari Lodge is a dream wedding destination – an incredible setting for a small, intimate event (maximum of 46 pax) whilst enjoying special time with family and friends surrounded by Lake Kariba and a myriad of wildlife!

Bumi Hills was the last stop on our trip...and this is a very beautiful luxury lodge overlooking the lake with stunning views. As we had done a lot of game viewing in Mana Pools we all opted to do the water based activities that were on offer. The fishing was a lot of fun with great results. Watching the birds and the Elephants on the shore line whilst drinking G&T's cant be beaten. The staff and guides were outstanding and nothing was ever too much trouble. We all need to support these lodges who have been hard hit by covid, yet still manage to put so much back into the community., African Bush camps really do a fantastic job.

We stayed 3 nights in Bumi Hills. This was supposed to be a luxurious respite between two more rustic camp experiences. As it happened, we spent the 2 previous nights in luxury in Livingstone, Zambia, waiting for covid clearance before crossing the border into Zimbabwe. So we did not expect more luxury and pampering. In addition to the luxury, we did get a good safari experience. Our guide Nick took us in many directions, looking for lions. Although we did not find lions, there was a good variety of animals and especially birds, since the property overlooks Lake Kariba. We drove along the Lake, and also took a boat ride along the lake shore, followed by fishing. Every time Eddie casted for us, we caught a fish. Some were big enough to eat, and the chef prepared them as an appetizer. The first night we were really pampered as we were the only guests. The food was excellent, with several choices. If I had a complaint, it was that there was too much food: breakfast, snack, lunch, tea, snack, dinner, all delicious. And one day there was a special picnic lunch by the lake, while watching a nearby crocodile. Rooms were large and beautifully decorated. Unusual for this part of the world, they were air conditioned. All rooms are high on a hill, with a balcony overlooking the lake.

My husband and i had an amazing stay at Bumi whilst celebrating his 40th birthday...from the moment we stepped on the soils of Bumi we felt like we were on a little haven on earth...experiencing the adventure far from the madding crowd .....everything was breathtaking!!! All the staff on the camp were a pleasure to be around, very courteous and paid attention to detail, not forgetting the personalised service we would receive daily. Special mentions goes out to the camp manager, Nick our game guide; kudos to you for going the extra mile all the time, Shepherd the man who constantly checked on us making sure that we were happy with everything , Gorden together with the chef, the men who made sure that we were deliciously fed through out the duration of our stay catering to our specific needs...We will definitely be coming back to Bumi for another do!

I was a guest for three nights and really enjoyed my stay. The grounds are attractively landscaped and well maintained. The staff were very attentive and went to great lengths to ensure that I was having a pleasant stay. There are many activities to participate in including game walks, game drives, sunset boat cruises and fishing, among others. I did all of this and more during my stay and was sad to have to leave. Special thanks to my game guide Nick, who did his best to show me all that Bumi Hills has to offer!
