Somalisa Tented Camp is set in the heart of Hwange National Park Zimbabwe, and is known as the land of the giants for its big elephant herds. Nestled in a stunning location tucked away on an acacia island along the edge of an ancient seasonal flood plain, Somalisa provides guests with breathtaking views of the savannah plains across the famous Kennedy Vlei line. Recently re-built, Somalisa Tented Camp has upgraded its level of accommodation to that of complete comfort and luxury whilst still maintaining its focus on the guiding and hosting of guests to ensure the ultimate guest experience. Consisting of seven elegantly furnished Sail Tents with gauze sliding doors, a glass wood-burner fireplace for the cold winter nights, and an overhead fan for the hot summer days, each tent has en suite bathroom facilities including flush toilets, an indoor and outdoor shower, as well as a copper slipper-style bathtub. The main decking area includes split level decking with a separate lounge and dining area, as well as a small splash pool for guests overlooking the “Elephant Pool” and a natural waterhole where herds of game congregate to drink and where guests can relax whilst soaking in the African bush. Activities include guided walks lead by qualified and passionate guides who will share their knowledge and love of the bush with you, game drives and night drives. Wildlife sightings include elephant, kudu, sable antelope, zebra, wildebeest, gemsbok, the rare and endangered roan antelope, buffalo, giraffe, lion, leopard, hyena, and many other wildlife species.

My wife and I were finally travelling for our dream honeymoon to Africa for safari all across Southern Africa (Zimbabwe -2 locations, Zambia, and Botswana) and we can't say enough about African Bush Camps (ABC) and the entire staff there. Here we are just reviewing Somalisa, but all of the ABC camps were incredible in their own way (which is what really made the trip for us). At Somalisa (our second stop on the safari) we found the most personalization and interaction with not only our guides, but the entire staff. Here you are situated in "tents" (which is an understatement), where the wildlife can come right up to the rooms. Big shout out to Aiden and Shepherd (our host and guide during our time at Somalisa). Aiden was truly the most attentive and creative of our hosts. He really wanted to get to know us and make our time there memorable. From private lunches on our porch to handmade bracelets (created by himself) and even the chance to bartend for my new wife at night, it is clear he has a talent for hospitality and is a genuine person that we were so happy to have met. Then we had the pleasure of spending our game drives (and even meals), with Shepherd. Getting to know Shepherd was also a pleasure and it was clear that he has a passion for game tracking and showing others the beauty that is Africa. We had the most incredible lion tracking and sightings which anyone would be jealous of and overall just enjoyed the scenery and views that Somalisa offers. In the end I think we would call Somalisa our favorite of all the camps when considering the location, accommodations, the staff, and sightings. But that doesn't mean the others were not incredible as well. Somalisa is a must visit if looking at African Bush Camps (ABC).

Had an amazing 3-night stay at Somalisa Acacia. Dixon - what an amazing guide! Friendly, knowledgable, and made us feel safe throughout. He was great at spotting all of the animals even among the tall grasses. He taught us so much about animal behavior, the topography, and Zimbabwe's people & government. Our host, Star - a true all-star! She was very thoughtful about all of the subtle details to make us feel at home. She even taught us some Shona songs, which made the trip so memorable! Chef Catherine, TK, Present, Ronald, Egania, and Gifford - all assisted us throughout the trip and further contributed to our wonderful experience. (Note - we remembered all of their names because of how great they were) We absolutely loved the safari experience and were thrilled to stay in such a beautiful camp! The rooms, common areas, and meals were all exceptional and we'd definitely recommend to all! The elephant pool was amazing! We got to see elephants drink and cool themselves down from only a couple of feet away!

What an amazing experience we had. We arrived at Hwange Main Camp and were met by our guide Dophas who made our 2 hour transfer into a 4 hour game drive with lunch in the bush. We were met with a view of the tented camp with all he staff on deck singing to us, we were a bit emotional at this point. Dophas had so much knowledge about Animals, Plants and Birds which made our game drives really special. We learnt so much from him. The food was awesome (thanks to Chef Trevor) and the atmosphere in the camp took us back to the safari experiences of yesteryear but with a luxury twist. Egania was our camp host and the after dinner campfire talks with her and Dophas were a highlight. Whilst you come for the Animals you leave with memories of the shared experiences with all the staff. Thanks for everything

Wonderful friendly people, awesome good guide (Clement), fantastic food and lots of sighting directly at the camp but also on several game drives: Lions, Cheetahs, Sables, Gamsbock, Hyenas, Elands, Steenbocks, Impalas and last not least Elephants. We saw lots of birds and learned much about trees and plants. Everybody was very helpful, the bungalows were fantastic and we loved the piece at the camp very much. Visited the camp for the second time, another stunning guide (Godwin) - I am sure I will come again. One of the most impressing camps I've ever been

Upon arrival - greeted by Ronald, who over the days we where there showed quite some skills in dancing (moonwalk, Jerusalema etc) - we felt very welcome. Great camp with great service but yet still a relaxed feeling of home. Animal life around the camp was fantastic and having the waterhole close to our room we had animals all around 24/7. Then the most important for a successful safari : our guide Dophas was excellent and we really enjoyed the game drives - he had this great mix of knowledge, social skills and humour. We had great sightings and a lot of fun. This is a lodge I would love to return to.
