Escape to the exquisite simplicity of a tropical island paradise; experience the raw beauty of an untouched natural sanctuary in the far reaches of the Indian Ocean, leaving behind the impositions of everyday life.

The Alphonse group of atolls are considered as one of of the most pristine, untouched edens of the world, making it a nature lover's paradise. The magnificent island threesome comprising of Alphonse, St Francois and Bijoutier lies in the very heart of the Indian Ocean as part of the Seychelles outer island group.

Seven degrees South of the Equator and 400 kilometers South-West of Mahe, it is blessed with one of the world's healthiest climates, and miles of unblemished shorelines, lagoons and sea flats.

HOTEL:

Alphonse Island features a single exclusive resort comprising beach bungalows and villas built alongside the waters edge, each with spectacular ocean views. The 'Le Lys' central dining and bar area allows guests to socialize alongside the sparkling pool and shoreline, with cuisine offering the very best of traditional Creole creations inspired by the sensuous island atmosphere.

Fresh produce farmed on the island and freshly caught fish are always on the menu, but diversity is key, including Asian inspired dishes and sensational sashimi, complimented by a wine list of distinctive variety.

Freedom of movement around the island on foot or bicycle permits self-discovery of the wonders of this special place. Alphonse Island is a refuge for people looking for an authentic but comfortable island experience.

FLY FISHING:

Considered a fly anglers paradise, the expansive sea flats surrounding the atolls of Alphonse and St Francois provide the fly fishing experience of a lifetime. This spectacular wilderness has ten thousand acres of white sand flats, which provide easy wading and world class site fishing. The atolls are home to incredibly large populations of Bonefish, 3 different types of Triggerfish, Barracuda, Snapper, Grouper, Permit, Parrotfish, 8 species of Trevally (including the Giant Trevally), and the incomparable Milkfish.

This diversity gives anglers the opportunity to target a myriad of different species during their stay. The St Francois fishery caters for just 12 fly anglers at a time to maintain exclusivity and sustainability. To ensure guests the ultimate fishing experience, an international team of knowledgeable guides and qualified managers are on hand to share their passion for this unique fishery and its environment. Anglers are transferred for the short run from Alphonse to St Francois lagoon by the 40' mother ship to where the skiffs are kept anchored.

The fishing is very much tide dependent so the prevailing conditions will dictate which species you will focus on. You are then able to access the vast expanse of flats, lagoons, channels and reefs which spoil anglers in the choice of environment and species for which they would like to hunt. The accommodation at Alphonse is amongst some of the most comfortable you will encounter at any fly fishing destination in the world.

GAME FISHING:

The un-spoilt waters of Alphonse and St Francois Atolls are home to the most incredible variety of blue water fish species, translating into a great destination for offshore fishing. The structure and sheer drop-offs are ideal for attracting a variety of pelagic species that can be caught on fly as well as conventional trawling methods.

Fish like Sailfish, Wahoo, Dogtooth Tuna, Yellowfin Tuna and Dorado can be challenged on any given day. Anglers can choose to either spend a half or full day targeting some of the hard fighting fish on offer. Due to our conservation minded policies, no conventional angling is permitted next to or on the reef that surrounds our majestic paradise, which helps preserve its unique abundance.

From the moment you arrive at the private airstrip, the friendly service and comradery from the other guests is apparent. The hotel and guest cottages are well spaced, extremely welcoming and comfortable. The food was always fresh prepared and the chef and his staff are extremely accommodating. I could go on and on - everything was perfection. When we filled out our exit questionnaire, the only item we could come up with that could be improved was the chains are our bicycles slipped which made riding them at night a bit tricky. We are already planning our return for next year.

Since the first step on Alphonse island I felt warmly welcome. The management team was greeting us when stepping from the plane. We were taken to the main building and given briefing while drinking coconut juice from a coconut. Everyone got a bike and it was so lovely to cycle around the island in a nice warm breeze. In the mornings and afternoons the tortoises were along the roads eating grass and happy to see us. The scuba diving team with the lead of Juho (Dive & Activity Centre Manager) was excellent. Everything was organised tip top and we were taken excellent care of. I finalised my Nitrox e-course with Juho. He was very accurate in his job and made sure I understand and know everything. I felt very safe with him (I have been diving only for two years). Went for beautiful dives, only 15 min boat drive away from the island. The diving and fishing teams work really hard to make your holiday easy and fun. Elle (Ecology and Sustainability Manager) gave interesting and professional presentations of mantas and corals in the evenings. Learned a lot. Do go to listen to the presentations. We had relaxing sundowners at the beach bar and were on surreal flat lunch in the middle of the ocean! You have to experience it to believe and understand what it was like! Room was beautiful, nice little surprises every evening when going to bed. Scott the Manager was very caring of all the guests. The atmosphere among the team and guests was very personal and top class. This place is a gem! Every time I went to the beach I was ALONE or saw someone snorkeling far away! Where can you experience that luxury? You can snorkel from your own beach, lots of turtles and even spent a long time with a curious big permit there. Easy holiday and unforgettable moments every day. Food was excellent. The staff was so happy, friendly and helpful, being there alone, never felt lonesome. Amazing week with A-team! Felt blessed and very thankful to have been able to spend a week on a beautiful remote Alphonse island. Thank you ALL!

Reasons for our visit

[1] Isolation from the rest of the world [2] love nature [3] sea life [4] luxury travel.

Our experience:

[1] we wanted a break from the digital life and that is what we got.
[2] we were surrounded by picturesque sun-kissed palm trees, white beaches, and transparent waters wherever we went on the island. The number of stars in the evenings was also very special.
[3] we felt we were swimming in an aquarium at times
[4] the service was great and the food is exquisite (if you enjoy your seafood you will be in heaven).

Alphonse island is the most magical, private island destination. Pristine natural beauty and seclusion, with world class fly fishing, diving, snorkelling and guided nature walks, The excellent, friendly Alphonse team went all out to make our extended stay a once in a lifetime family experience. We loved the barefoot luxury, dinner under the stars, hatching turtles on the beach, dolphin and manta ray sightings, and fresh delicious food . Truly exceptional.

Stayed for a week with the family in two bungalows. Trip was postponed for two years due to Covid. Finally made it. What a wonderful island and staff. From the moment you arrive , everything is perfect . Food is super fresh, fish caught daily and vegetables and fruit mainly derived from the island garden.

Activities are awesome , highly recommend the blues safari , St. Francois nature trip and snorkelling. We also did a blue sea fishing and snorkelling trip which included a BBQ on board for my birthday . What an amazing experience. The flats lunch (complementary) is amazing and not to be missed.

Massage also wonderful. Resort has a rustic feel to it. Luxury absolutely but down to earth. Staff all super friendly and join in evenings for a drink on occasion.

Deep sea fishing is spectacular. We caught 11 tuna, biggest one well over 20kg. List quite a few to sharks too! Snorkelling wonderful and lost count of the turtles we saw.

Overall an amazing , relaxing stay and we would definitely like to return.

OK. What do I say about Alphonse? This is the eighth year in a row I've been coming back. For me the resort is addictive. It offers everything I enjoy and appreciate at a fishing destination. The bungalows are perfect, the food service is Michelin class, the WiFi is rock solid, and for the type of solitary flats fishing that I enjoy, there's no place else in the world that I'd rather be. It's just the best of the best – and made even better by the most accommodating group of Seychellois folks you will ever meet.

What a treat.. little paradise that delivers on all the idyllic expectations that drew us here for my wife's special birthday.
Staff spoilt us rotten, yet gave us our space. Chefs were amazing and spoilt for choice with 85% of their produce "home grown" and sustainable fish fresh from the ocean - you literally tasted the island in every dish. You could not ask for nicer settings to eat your meals.. which the staff mixed up between main restaurant, on the beach, at the beach bar, at the farm.
You can tailor your vacation with the right amount of activities for you.. and there are plenty to choose from. Snorkelling was amazing; loved the mode of transport (bikes).
Reality check was seeing just how polluted our oceans have become. Despite being in the middle of the Indian Ocean, sad to see occasional PET bottles and flip flops being washed up; but many of the staff and guests participate in a weekly beach clean.
Was lucky enough to come across a giant turtle laying her eggs on the full moon.. Blue Planet in real time:)
Only down side.. having to leave! And a week was definitely not enough!

Thank you so much for your wonderful review! We're thrilled to hear that Alphonse Island provided the perfect escape for your wife's special birthday. It’s fantastic that you enjoyed the personalised touches from our staff and the fresh, sustainable cuisine grown right here on the island – we're proud of our farm-to-table approach. We’re happy to hear you made the most of the varied dining settings, as well as the activities like snorkelling and exploring our paradise on your bicycles. Witnessing a giant turtle laying her eggs sounds is an unforgettable experience – what a magical moment! We share your sentiments about ocean pollution. Despite our efforts, the washed-up debris is a sobering reminder of the global issue. It's encouraging to know that our beach clean-ups are supported by guests like yourself. We hope to welcome you back for a longer stay next time – a week is never quite enough in paradise! Warm regards from Alphonse Island.

Having been fortunate enough to travel to many destinations with my family I can honestly say Alphonse is the best family experience we have had. My daughter (5) and son (8) have never had such freedom to explore on their own. Like all guests on the island they were given personal bicycles for the week we were there - and off they went! The brilliant team at Alphonse showed them the tortoise nursery, the extensive garden producing fresh produce for the guests meals and facilitated hermit crab races on the beach. All this before even getting to the diverse activities on offer - snorkelling, flats wildlife walks, fishing, ice cream making and harvesting from the farm.
The flats flyfishing and blue water fishing is world class, as is the diving and snorkelling. SUP'ing and kayaking is also fantastic and the activities are supported and guided where required by a knowledgeable and friendly team, complimenting the passionate and experienced fishing guides.
We would return in a heartbeat and cannot wait to do so. Thank you to the exceptional team at Alphonse Island and Blue Safari.

We stayed early May 2024, we can't rate this island more highly. We stayed in the one bedroom pool villas, which were beautiful and I especially loved the daily outside shower. The service is relaxed and extremely friends, the activities are are amazing. During the week we snorkelled daily and bus have seen over 200 adult sized turtles, sleeping sting rays, mantas, sharks, octopus, dolphins..... the bone fishing was exceptional and the guides amazing. The fishing trip was also the highlight of our week. One of the favourite activities was cooking class, we had so much fun and the setting go the cookery school is in the herb gardens.
You really do arrive as strangers and leave as friends. A massive thank you to all the staff at Alphonse and to SeyExclusive for booking such a once in a lifetime trip for us.

My husband and I spent 10 days on Alphonse island last March and loved it so much we have just returned from another magical stay in the Alphonse Island Lodge. The staff and the ambience are unparalleled, the food is so delicious and I’m a vegetarian so my needs are well catered for. The expansion of the sensational vegetable garden is amazing and the chefs prepare scrummy dishes. The diving visibility, different fish species and coral life is exceptional. I spent my days walking and cycling and discovering every nook and cranny on the island. Relaxing evenings having dinner under the stars with our feet in the sand was one of the many highlights. We will be back a third time …. It’s just a matter is when 🏝️
