Occasionally, you will stumble across a place and a love every minute of it, this is how we felt about The Guardians. Situated about 4 - 5 km’s out of the town of Elliot at the foothills of the (Southern) Drakensburg, it’s the perfect place to unwind and relax. Our hosts were charming and friendly and we were quickly accommodated and welcomed to the farm.

We stayed in one of the thatched cottages on a bed and breakfast package (although dinner is also available by prior arrangement). The spacious cottage contained a large queen bed, seating area, dining table, large fridge (with tea / coffee facilities) and en-suite bathroom with shower. There is a small outdoor area with seating offering great views towards the mountains.

Breakfast the next morning was just outside the cottage (at a pre-arranged time) with tables and umbrella quickly set up. Breakfast consisted of a continental selection to start and cooked option available.

Be warned, the road to the Guardian’s is rough and not designed for small cars, but once you arrive an oasis awaits you !

A great experience, I shall remember for a long time.

A lovely farm, in a country atmosphere, hidden in the most beautiful mountainous area, situated outside Elliot. A place where one is instantly refreshed after a long days travel. Despite us providing the wrong booking date, Ockert and J.J. went the extra mile to accommodate us in a charming room attached to their beautiful sandstone and thatch house. They opened their home, for us to have a comfortable dining area which has a fantastic view over a picturesque garden and mountain range. This accommodation, after staying there on 5 different occasions, is highly recommended. Dawie and Elmarie Erasmus, Kloof.

Had a wonderful stay in this beautiful getaway just outside of Elliot. It is in a stunning location, and the cottages feel luxurious, but without losing the farm-style charm that The Guardians offers. It makes a perfect stop-over for a long drive, but you'll wish you could stay longer!

Man this is breath taking scenery and affordable accommodation. Situated on a farm outside of Elliot I felt at home. The team of border collies we a treat and seemed to be close at hand doing what dogs do. The accommodation is well appointed and the breakfast served in your room was a nice touch. If you seeking peace a quiet, time for reflection you cannot go wrong here.

The scenery is stunning...beautiful farm, handsome animals, wonderful Border Collies, immaculate property....

I was in a suite/room vs a cottage which was fine as it was just an overnight stay. It seemed like the accommodation was taken over by contractors working in the area.

Unfriendly concrete steps in to the room...with unattractive, bare surrounding, surprising especially considering how beautiful the farm..and the farm house is!

A lovely large room...needs: a fan, wardrobe/somewhere to hang clothes (there is nothing), towel rails and hooks in the bathroom (nowhere to hang the towel or clothes)...the supplies in the kitchen (coffee, rusks, sugar) were all nearly empty/rationed which was unwelcoming, no sharp knife or scissors...breakfast was literally bacon and eggs and toast, no tomato or mushrooms...generous quantity though and nicely served in the room... R60 for breakfast...

R400 for the room...overpriced especially compared to what I received at other places along the way...

Having read some of the previous reviews of a negative nature I believe they couldn't be further from the truth. Considering the accommodation will cost you a mere R350 per person sharing, I am confused as to why previous guests are so blatantly damaging with their words to what is a Stunningly beautiful and well run guesthouse.

The rooms are very comfortable and cold weather is catered for with heaters and electric blankets.

The home style cooking which is prepared by the hostess herself, shows care and dedication to us as her guests. Breakfast and dinner was delicious and served to us in our unit by friendly faced staff.

Over and above the wonderful accommodation and food, the hostess JJ and host Ockert are easily approachable and were always willing to assist us weather it be with luggage or giving us directions to explore the farm.

We were very happy during our stay and will be returning soon !!!

Hi JJ and Ockert.
Thank you for my wonderful week stay on the farm. Such peaceful surroundings with amazing views of the Guardians. I was very comfortable in the lovely cottage, makes it very easy to be away from home with the facilities on offer. Thank you both for taking such good care of Ian and making his stay welcome and comfortable. I will definitely be back and I can highly recommend the Guardians to those that would love the peace and quiet in very comfortable and beautiful surroundings on your working farm.
Much love to both you.
Victoria.

When we spoke to the owner JJ she said there was a gravel road leading to the place, but my Prius should not have any problem. And for most of the road she was correct. However just before we drove in there is a big dip and two large humps which caused the undercarriage to scrape across the rough stones. My sump or exhaust pipe could have been damaged, luckily they only received scratches.
We got to the Farmhouse and were shown about. We were two mature couples and we had the impression that there were en-suite bathrooms to the bedrooms. There were not: only one, rather smelly, and extremely old fashioned room, several metres away from the smaller bedroom. I am at an age where I no longer wish to share a bathroom with anyone but Jill, so it was totally unacceptable.
The living room was a building site, with a massive hole in the wall covered by wooden sheeting. If we had known that the premises was as it was there is no way we would have booked the night's stop. There were other chalets on the farm, but these were taken and this place was all we were offered. JJ offered to refund us, but all communication bounced back, So we are not only out of pocket but disgruntled at the service we were offered
