Detailed Reviews
We just finished RVing at Blackthorne. Since there were not many reviews on the RV aspect of this resort, I wasn't sure what to expect. We are a family of 4 that frequents many "family campgrounds" but decided to give Blackthorne a try since it was the only place we could find with site memorial weekend. I wouldn't classify this as a family campground by most standards. The area was quaint, a little outdated, but did have a large open field, playground, run down basketball court and pool. The big draw is the 2 Bars on the premises. There seems to be no rules, no map or directions at check in, and not much help offered by the staff except abrupt answers. It felt as though they couldn't be bothered by those not from the area. Our site was OK. We needed to dig in the woods to find the water hook up. There are no fire rings provided, so we just made a fire in a bare spot of grass that there had seemingly been a fire before. There was live music that went on way into the middle of the night all nights. There is no posted speed limit, so golf carts, motorcycles and cars were whipping through at all. When I walked the dog, the paths were littered with emptied bottles, cans and drink containers. The singles stall bathrooms throughout the resort were well maintained, but the bath house and showers were fair at best. If you want to party and not deal with rules this is your place. Isn't someplace that I felt comfortable letting my kids 10/11 hop on their bike and have a little freedom.

The Good: the dining staff was amazing. I only did dinner the first night...not the second, and didn't do breakfast at all. My husband did both dinners, and one breakfast. He said it was all quite good. The dinner was buffet style, and I'm an extremely fussy eater. Having said that though, I have to say one of the choices was the best turkey that I've ever eaten! We were there for a weekend Halloween event, and it was fun. The atmosphere, food, drinks, music, at the bar made for such a fun night time!
The Bad: the parking was horrible. You had to walk way too far to get to the dining hall or bar, and if you took your vehicle, you drove around for an hour waiting for someone else to leave. They also have no map so you don't know where things are located. That is absolutely necessary because the place is quite large.
The Ugly: The beds were the WORST things we've ever slept on! Rock hard..I'm not talking firm...I'm talking HARD. I understand that the rooms are slowly being renovated, but comfort of your guests, and proper mattresses, is maintenance not renovation, IMHO. The second night, my husband and I both slept most of the night on the chairs in the room because we had so much back pain.
Conclusion: We had fun. Would we go back? Possibly, but not during an 'event weekend', and not in the off season.

+1
Planned on staying somewhere for the night to ensure we had a shower, dinner and a place to rest after having fun in the sun. It was exactly what we needed. After breakfast the next morning we were recharged for more adventures. Staff was very helpful from making reservation to checking out. Room was clean and big enough to keep a toddler entertained but safe.

Worst room I ever had.
It was too expensive for what I needed, and it failed to meet any minimum standard.
The owner was inconsiderate and unreasonable.
They felt entitled to my money since they already had it.
My stay was supposed to be 2 nights but the first night had no heat or hot water. I took a cold shower and then went to sleep in a cold room. I left immediately in the morning and obviously did not not stay the second night.
Patty refunded 1/2 my stay but Blackthorne Resort actually gave me nothing of value.
Please go to any other hotel/motel and you will get heat, hot water, and treated like your health and safety matter.

Dirty, run down, and filled with many unsavory bigoted residents. Food is gross, served by a few friendly servers. Strong drinks served - with bad company in a run down biker bar. A great place for an outdoor concert - but owners don’t seem to be reinvesting money back into their business. Sad goats and a peacock stay unkept in their cages. Many RV sites and golf carts whizzing about. There are showers and laundry facilities available if you dare. So much garbage and broken equipment laying around! I’d say don’t stay in the cabins. The water smells, the sheets are dirty, tub is disgusting, the decor run down, it is filthy. One of our rooms was filled with bees! Better for camping, I guess … and I can’t even be so sure about that since the campsites I visited are filled with trash.

We registered for Makers Camp and we’re told that they were completely booked at the Resort but we could stay at their sister property a mile down the road. We were told it was “basic” motel style with beds and bathroom. What they failed to mention is that “basic” doesn’t include a door that works. The louvered glass door was broken so the door could be reached thru and unlocked from the outside. A dark colored hand towel had been tucked in place of the glass. In fact, the door was unlocked when we arrived. Hot water didn’t work in the sink, but at least it appears to be working in the shower. Toilet paper roll was blue on one side. Who knows what liquid it was dropped in. The air conditioner worked well, but the ground prong had been removed from the plug so that it could be use with an old style extension cord. The outlet behind the nightstand was totally broken with no plate over it. Then there was the kibble in the corner under the table. We got here late, we are tired, so we are staying tonight, but the second night we have booked, likely not! In fact, my asthma may be kicking in and I will end up in my car the rest of the night anyway! If I can find my car. Not sure where we were supposed to park. Very little outside light and no parking lot. I don’t know about the main resort area, but if they can allow guests to stay in a place like this? …Just. No.

I bought Sunday day ticket to see my favorite band "The Disco Biscuits" play at your resort . What a blast! I showed up about 1 hour before show time, pre gamed by my car which was only about 150 feet from the entrance to the venue. Great concert! Great people! What a awesome time! Many Disco Biscuits fans are talking on the forums about how accommodating the resort was to the genre known as B4L. We like to get dirty and party but we are a friendly group of people who cause little trouble. Thank you for looking through the rough exterior and treating us as humans who just want to unwind and watch the Biscuits rip it up. Thanks again , this concert will go down in history's good side of the list of how security should be run at Disco Biscuits shows. You run an great place and I hope the Biscuits will be back , perhaps at next years festival!

So.. luckily we are only staying one night to visit family, but as soon as we walked into the hallway, we were greeted with an unvacuumed rug and broken banisters. The ice machine was broken (not that I would trust it anyway) and the rug and walls looked like they were from the 80s. There were slabs of drywall leaning against the walls in the hallway and no one working with them. There was construction and general dirt and grime all over.
Inside the rooms, there is nowhere to hang clothes, and the sink is outside of the bathroom. We did a bedbug check which luckily came out seemingly fine. We haven't even tried the showers yet, but I worry about those after seeing other reviews.
Now we could have dealt with all of that.. but the beds were terrible. I like a firm bed.. but these feel like they are made out of solid wood or concrete. I feel my elbows bruising as I write this. The bedding looks older than the bedding at my grandma's house (the place we were visiting) and she hasn't changed that since my dad was a kid (and he was just about 70).
The lady at the desk seemed nice, and the playground looks cool (if I had kids to enjoy them) but the rooms.. are barely fit for habitation. Oh.. and there was mold in the freezer on the mini fridge.

My family and I recently stayed at the Blackthorn Resort for the Lost Treasure Weekend. We all had such an amazing time! Our kids love playing on the playground, swimming in the pool, running around in the field and checking out the peacock (yep that's right)! The What really makes the Blackthorn special is the people you encounter. From the patrons of the events to the entire staff, we were treated like a part of the family all weekend long. Our kids look forward to visiting Blackthorn each year, and we can't wait to be back!

Bikers were wearing jackets displaying large swastikas and iron crosses in the dining room at this purportedly family resort. These are universally recognized hate symbols including according to the laws of the state of New York. When I confronted the bikers to express my discomfort and pain, the owners of the resort took me aside, challenged and had zero empathy for my feelings and perspective and asked me and my family to leave. Blackthorne resort chooses to harbor hate and allows families to be exposed to hate symbols. Please condemn, and avoid.
