We spent 3 nights at Shinde as part of a trip where also we visited 2 other camps (one in South Africa and one in Botswana).

We thought Shinde was fantastic! The facilities are beautiful, they offer a diversity of activities and the service is spectacular.

From the moment we arrived, we felt pampered at Shinde. They were always warm and friendly and always there to greet you. Service was exceptional!
The main lodge has a spectacular view overlooking the river. There are multiple dining areas, one up above and one down below next to a fire pit. There is a bar located next to the fire pit and there are two separate areas to rest or lounge. The view is beautiful while dining or relaxing at the main lodge. There is Wi-Fi available in the main lodge, but its functionality was spotty during our visit. We could not send or receive emails, texts or perform internet searches but we could contact friends/relatives using Instagram. We heard it was normally better so if you need to be connected hopefully this was an isolated occurrence.

During these Covid times, food was served separately to each party. Each dish/course was brought out in separate dishes, always covered. The food was plentiful and of exceptional quality. Wine was always offered with dinner and they were generous with refills.

The accommodations were nice. There was an extremely comfortable, tented king-sized bed and they brought hot water bottles to keep you warm at night. The room also had a porch with a couple of chairs in the front of the tent. Each morning they would drop off coffee when they awoke you for the morning game drive. The rooms have a both an indoor and outdoor shower. There are plenty of electrical plugs/outlets to charge your phones/batteries.

Our game viewing at Shinde was bit different than at the other camps we visited. There are large grassland areas that can sometimes make game viewing more difficult, so we experienced longer periods without seeing game then we did at some other camps. However, our guide (Chachos) was excellent. Although he was a bit soft-spoken, Chachos was a true professional – an excellent guide, tracker, and fountain of information. We did find large predator (lions, leopards, and cheetahs) sightings more prevalent at this camp and we were treated to a Cheetah kill all expertly tracked by Chachos.

We really enjoyed the opportunity to enjoy other activities at Shinde. They offer boat rides (motor and mokoro), fishing trips, and walking tours, in addition to game drives. Our motorboat ride was very peaceful and going fishing was great fun and a nice change of pace from the twice daily game drives.

I would highly recommend a visit to Shinde. You will be treated to an exceptionally nice lodge, delicious food, spectacular service, a diversity of activities and a very professional game guide.

Botswana was somewhere I was keen to visit having been told it was the best place to safari. From Joburg it is a 90 minute flight to Maun then a 30 min small plane to the camp, but worth the extra travel. Memorable from the first moment coming into land seeing a pride of lions on the edge of the runway. I thought it was perfect but will now be undergoing a refurb. The good thing is Shinde’s access to the water. The motorboat and mokoro trips a must. Walking safari also excellent. The pool area wasn’t large enough to accommodate all guests which ought to be addressed. Enjoyed the communal dining. In December there are lots of baby animals. Would like to go back in the flood season of June. Would say 3 days is a good length of time to stay. Writing this review in a wet UK I wish I was back there now.

Our family aged between 8-80 spend 3 nights at Shinde this month. We loved the setting, the sightings and the hospitality.

The staff: Bee was wonderful at trying to find us animals on our bucket list and we had a magical encounter with a leopard. Math, Priscilla and the team made sure we were well fed and managed our dietary requirements really well compared to other lodges. Everyone was very warm and welcoming.

The room: The family room was comfortable with a shared bathroom. It has recently been redone so everything looked new and tasteful. It is in a canvas tent so gets cold at night but they gave hot water bottles to keep us warm. Liked the yoga mat and dumbbells to allow for stretching after long game drives and outdoor shower for warmer days. It is tented so there isn’t a tea/coffee station or minibar but everything is available in the lodge and they provide a hot drink at wake up. The lodge is unfenced so you can’t walk around unaccompanied at night. We had leopard, lion and buffaloes enter the camp at night while we were there.

The activities: the activities were varied which we liked. As the last camp on our trip we had seen game so we’re happy to be able to fish and cruise on the river, take a nature walk etc (even the kids). The pool was too cold to use but the setting was lovely to relax with a book. The highlight for the kids was having their freshly caught fish cooked up for supper. The rangers know the area and that means being able to focus on areas where specific animals hang out which is nice. We saw a lot.

All in all a lovely experience and we hope to be back someday.

This is a very high quality operation. Friendly and informed staff, who really try to ensure you see and experience the wonder of the Okavango Delta. Our guide was great - spotting many unusual animals and birds and had lots of insight into their behaviour. The tent we stayed in felt like “Out of Africa” - so tasteful and functional. We even had a family of elephants wonder by as we were having morning coffee one morning. The evening meals were all great and we met some interesting fellow travellers over the several days were were staying here.

It was a true "out of Africa" safari adventure getting to Shinde and experiencing the uniqueness of this remote location in the Okavango Delta. We flew from JNB to Maun with Airlink and then internal flight were coordinated thru the operator.
There is an airstrip, where animals must be chased out, which is located within the camp. Upon arrival you are greeted by the most melodic greeting song by the staff. The camp is located within an island with huge mangosteen and ebony trees. The living room, dining room surround the trees and overlook the lagoon and waterways.
Very friendly and welcoming staff. Our ranger was Salani who guided us through marshland, and lots of interesting facts. The morning and evening game drives, walking safaris, and the boma lunch were great experiences. Because of the terrain, there are many drives through water to get to the animals, which is a lot of fun, unless you get stuck. Luckily Salani is an expert driver.
Fishing during late afternoon we were able to catch fish and then the cooks prepared them for dinner. Fresh fish was delicious. We obviously saw many hippos and some crocs. Mokoro canoe experience provide another unique experience. The sunsets from the water level are outstanding.
The tents are beautiful as well as the lounges and dinning areas. The outdoor firepit meeting place was the best to share experiences with other travelers.
Hints: Check the weather prior to traveling. The tents only have two fans so it got very hot during the day. No need to pack much as daily laundry service is included.

We were here for 3 nights in December 2019. Very high-quality lodge. Tents are really comfortable. Pretty big. Nice mattresses and linens. Bathroom spacious and fully functional. Enough electrical outlets to keep any batteries or devices charged. Small safe in the room. For those who can’t disconnect, internet is about the only thing lacking (there is 1 shared terminal that has internet if you really need it).

Service was really exceptional. Very warm and friendly. Neat little touches like putting a dessert wine in the room in the evening, or small service items like the wine glass covers to keep the insects out.

Clean water plentiful. Food quality was really high. Nice selection of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages.

Guides and Game viewing were excellent. 1 morning and 1 afternoon activity. We were there for 3 nights and saw quite a bit. Mix of land and water. Maybe it’s when we were there, but we never saw another vehicle while on the game drives.

This lodge was a great component of our safari and highly recommend it.

I stayed at Shinde for 3 wonderful nights and the service could not have been better. My guide was very knowledgeable and taught me so much about flora, fish, wildlife, trees and culture.
The food at the camp was of very high quality as was the bedroom, eating and relaxing areas.
A visit here is highly recommended to be one in a lifetime! Th

We spent 4 nights in Shinde. While we had an overall ok time because of the personnel, who are super sweet and fantastic, and our game driver, who was superb, I wouldn’t go back. The resort has no air conditioned rooms and the heat in early December was unbearable. I was sweaty all day long. Can’t imagine how it is during summer. On top of that, the room wifi was terrible or not working at all. There is no wifi on common areas either. As a business owner, I need to be connected all the time, so it was a miserable time for me.
Besides the a/c and wifi situation, there are many 5 star safari resort details missing: no snacks or mini bar in your room, food was tasty but a very cheap selection, high tea food was terrible, alcoholic choices are so so, control of flies over food was totally missing, etc.
There is no TV in all of the resort, so we missed all the World Cup games. In between game drives you are bored out of your mind because of no wifi, no tv and you can’t sleep either as the heat is unbearable. I was dying to get out; not my idea of a vacation.
The rooms are big and bed comfortable, but they lack a comfortable seating area. The laundry included was a big and welcome bonus.
Okavango Delta is very beautiful area, but for wildlife viewing, there are much, much better reserves, like Kruger and Masai Mara. If you are a bird watcher, this is your place. But not if you are interested in the Big Five or Magnificent Seven. Still, scenery and sunsets are plain gorgeous.
All in all, I would recommend this place to someone looking for a 3 star or under resort. But never to anyone looking into 4 or 5 star accomodations.

We had three marvelous days at Shinde, which we feel is the minimum stay needed to experience all activities offered in the camp. We had a nice tent overlooking the plains which was very cost, and included such luxuries as WiFi and running hot water. Our guide, Chachos, was very friendly and knowledgeable, plus showed a tremendous amount of flexibility to adapt the program to our wishes and to the weather. We enjoyed a wonderful lunch outside of the camp under trees, a private dinner at the jetty of the camp, and two safaris on the water, exploring its canals on motorboat and on a traditional canoe. The safari cars are comfy, they only fill them with four people.

This was our fifth of six camps, and the first of two Ker & Downey in the Delta. It was our least favorite – it just didn’t have the “magic” the other camps had. The rooms and common areas are certainly very nice, with a lovely view of the lagoon. I like the option of an indoor or outdoor shower. The photos on the camp’s web site are accurate. The landscape was very different, which we wanted to explore; it took longer to find game thus we saw less. On the other hand, we had already enjoyed many game drives and Shinde had other activities available. We had a walking tour one morning - our guide Chachos is a little understated, but he really knows the animals, vegetation and land. We enjoyed fishing with BT one afternoon and brought back fish which the camp cooked for our dinner. We also had a boat cruise with BT another afternoon and probably saw more game from the water.
The menu was interesting and varied. I learned that the camps in the Delta can’t get deliveries as often as other camps, so they do a great job with the ingredients they have. A few hiccoughs at Shinde: The first night we came back from our drive at 7:20 and was told dinner was at 7:30 – we asked for an extra 15 minutes to change. We got to dinner, were the first ones there and the camp wasn’t yet ready to serve anyway. A dinner menu is posted with two mains listed, but a couple is served one of everything on the menu. One couple at dinner doesn’t eat meat at night so asked for two servings of the vegetarian dish and were told they get the same thing everyone else gets and there was no extra of the vegetarian dish. There is always extra food on safari! Breakfast is at 6:30 and drives are at 7:00. The cereals, porridge etc. are pretty much ready at 6:30, but if you want eggs/meat, they don’t take that order until a little later – pretty much makes it impossible to eat, brush your teeth and get to the drive on time at 7:00. Shinde just seemed to have a harder timetable than anywhere else we stayed. The staff took good care of us, but we just didn’t feel the warmth we felt in the other camps. We know this was an updated camp as of 2020 so we are assuming they need some time to work through the rough spots. The camp manager was very pleasant but did not appear as experienced as others we had interacted with. I liked the fact that local crafts were available for purchase but they were unable to ship anything so we could not purchase due to luggage space.
