The archetypal Okavango game-viewing destination. Raised on decks on a beautiful tree island in the south-east of the Okavango, Chitabe Camp looks out across a Delta floodplain that is transformed during winter from dry rushes to lush oasis, one of only a few distinct habitats in this diverse concession. Back in camp, the thatched dining and lounge area provide beautiful views, while each tent exudes its own personality, aided by superb fine art wildlife photographs. A pool provides cool sanctuary in the heat of the day. Highlights: On this classic safari experience, game drives take in the different habitats - the variety of these ensures that there is an equal diversity of wildlife, including big game such as elephant and buffalo, but also a range of plains game species like wildebeest, tsessebe and lechwe in numbers that support healthy lion, leopard and hyaena numbers, as well as regular visits by wild dog and cheetah. The camp is composed of 8 tents: spacious en-suite Meru-type tents, individually styled; outdoor shower; double vanity basins. Experiences include: day and night game drives • guided walks (on request).

When we were on our way to a different Camp in the Delta in our private Cessna 210, we had to do a precautionary landing at Chitabe airstrip due to weather. As the sun set shortly after, and we had only been able to inform Maun tower where we landed, we prepared ourselves for a night in the aircraft. When we saw through the rain headlights nearing on the runway in pitch black African darkness two hours later, it felt like Christmas. The Chitabe team had heard from our situation via the radio network of the various operators and, despite being officially closed since 2019 due to the pandemic, decided to make up rooms for us, pull their guides out of bed and come to the rescue.
Although it was not an official stay and they were obviously only stocked for the skeleton staff still on site, it was a most amazing experiences particularly considering that they had not had guests for the past year. Mama Jo, Aurelike (I think...), took super care of us. Guide and Tracker Ant and AT (?) turned our trip from the airstrip to the lodge and back the next morning into a fantastic game drive.
This is a big thank you to this fantastic team to get ready on short notice. If this is what you can do for last minute surprise guests after 12 months of closure, your fully fledged offering must be mind blowing.

We had our finest game viewing during a one month trip at this lodge. This made our experience at Chitabe very special indeed.

Goodman was an extraordinary guide. He suggested we spend the entire day with him in the wild and that enabled us to have an extraordinary experience with wild dogs, leopards and hyenas, rhinos and interesting bird interchanges. I cannot thank him enough for his devotion, passion and kindness.

The lodge could use refurbishment. It considers itself a luxury lodge but it cannot compete with the many deluxe lodges in Botswana. The furnishings are not artistic.

The food could also use improvement. It is adequate but not noteworthy or even satisfactory.

One comes here for the game viewing which is the most important component of a safari.

The staff is delightful and we always loved our interchanges with them.

Hopefully they will improve on aspects of the camp to make it one of the very finest in Botswana.

We are glad we were able to share such amazing sightings with you and hope you will come back soon to see what other miraculous animal interactions we are lucky enough to experience in this beautiful part of the Delta. We are sorry to hear the food was not as you had desired and will be sure to look into this with our kitchen team. In regards to the feel of the camp, it is thanks to constructive feedback such as yours that we are able to improve our service and overall camp. Glad to hear that over all you had an enjoyable stay with us and we will be sure to pass on your kind words to Goodman and the rest of the team at camp. Wilderness Safaris

The Team at Chitabe took great care in planning our daily game drives, lunches and fine dinners. Experienced staff and super game viewing. Guide knew the name of every bird in the Okavango delta! Planned lunch in field was a real highlight; but frankly, the amount of animals viewed was several multiples of other delta camps.

We wanted to have a truly immersive safari experience so spent 5 nights celebrating a special birthday at Chitabe and our expectations were exceeded in every way. Firstly, the diverse habitat on this concession maximizes the opportunity to see the greatest possible variety of wildlife and bird species. The predator sightings were especially outstanding with leopards every day, wild dogs and lions in abundance, and special migratory birds were everywhere, as were my favorite animals elephants. Our safari guide Ebs is one of the best with great communication skills and sense of humor and we enjoyed every minute of our game drives with him. The main lodge is an attractive contemporary African design with several comfortable seating and dining areas overlooking the floodplain for great "Bush TV" viewing. A main feature is the stunning architectural walkway connecting the accommodation tents which are in Classic Safari style. We especially enjoyed the outdoor shower. The food is delicious, creative and healthy and you can work off any extra calorie intake with the workout equipment in your room, at the small gym or swim in the lovely pool... or not! All the staff are wonderful - so attentive and friendly - and they anticipate your every need. Dining highlights were the special birthday song and dance performance with all the staff, the Boma dinner and surprise bush breakfast. We could not have had a better time and are so grateful to the entire Chitabe Team for creating such magic memories for us. Super thanks for everything to everyone at this outstanding safari camp - we can't wait to get back!

Don't wait to book a trip to Chitabe! We had the stay of a lifetime at Camp Chitabe – and it all started with the amazing staff. The warm welcome of Mama Jo, Se, Gloria and the rest of the team made our 3 night stay at Chitabe incredibly special and the perfect camp in the Okavango Delta to spend our honeymoon.

Our guide Duke was literally the best we have ever come across on any safari. He was intuitive, informative and gracious – and made every drive fun. We had absolutely incredible game viewing and a thirlling journey chasing African Wild Dogs on the hunt for food. It didn't hurt that there were Elephants, Lions, Hippos, Impala, and Cheetahs along the way just to name a few!

Facilities are amazing, beautifully appointed, comfortable, clean and timeless. They perfectly capture the beauty if the Delta. The food was really delicious with tons of vegetarian options.

The staff happily and willingly cared for us. We left with tears of gratitude in our eyes Nothing was too much trouble and we left with a new family. Thank you for the stay of a lifetime, Chitabe!

Dear hjdubbs12 Thank you for your wonderful review, we are delighted to see how much you enjoyed your stay with us and the fabulous Duke. We cannot wait to share your praises with Mama Jo, Se, Gloria, and the rest of the wonderful staff at camp. Chitabe is located in the Chitabe Concession, which covers 22 000 hectares of pristine Okavango Delta wilderness. This unique area harbours a massive variety of habitats within close proximity giving rise to a surprising diversity of species. The mix of Okavango and Kalahari makes for an excellent home to an abundant array of herbivores: giraffe, buffalo, red lechwe, tsessebe, impala, and elephant, which in turn support the larger predators: lion, leopard, spotted hyaena, cheetah, and wild dog. We look forward to welcoming you back to camp soon. Kind regards Wilderness Safaris

We have had the pleasure of visiting many camps in the Okavango Delta but Chitabe is a standout! The common areas are beautiful, well designed and inviting. We loved coming back from our game drives, gathering around the bar area, having a drink and swapping stories. The management team and staff here offer real Botswana hospitality and leaving Mama Jo, Helene and the rest of the team was tough. It is some of the best game viewing we have ever experienced. We stopped counting cats after a while! This is a true Wilderness Safari's experience. We go to "the bush" to experience what Botswana is about, and this is it.

The most phenomenal couple of days at Chitabe. Friendly and welcoming staff who cater to your every need. We had wonderful breakfasts out in the bush most days with a delicious spread. Sunset drinks and snacks in the bush and/or back from drives were also a highlight. Lodge has the most beautiful setting and the walkway is quite the architectural feature. Wonderful safari / game drives - multiple sightings of leopard (and cub), lion (and cubs) and wild dog and beautiful bird life. Friendly and extremely knowledgeable guide (not to be taken for granted). There is also wifi in the rooms if needed which was helpful. Thanks team for making this a truly memorable experience.

This was my second visit to Chitabe and this occasion was as memorable as the first. The game sightings were plentiful but for me it is as much about the birding and just being in that exquisite environment. I loved the consistent call of the Woodlands Kingfisher at the camp and for a bit of a bird hack, identifying so many new species (with the help of our guide Eebs). The Chitabe team were brilliant at creating special memories - an impromptu meal set up in the bush, sundowner bars and a special performance by the in-house choir. At Chitabe your every every detailed preference or request is not only attended to but welcomed. The camp staff are personal and friendly. It was simply a wonderful time that has left a deeply etched memory for me that will resurface every time I hear that call of the Woodlands Kingfisher.

I’ve traveled to Botswana over 27 times with my first visit in 1993. I consider Chitabe as one of the best safari camps in Botswana is you are looking for a great all around experience. The staff and guides are all world class. The accommodations are comfortable and the food is excellent. But, the best part of Chitabe in my mind is the quality of the wildlife and the game drives! I will be back again soon. Chitabe is managed by Wilderness Safari’s and they are excellent.

This is our favorite camp, never failing to impress especially since Lediba has recently been renovated. Food and service is always outstanding. The Kgotla {bar-b-que and staff entertainment ) night is one of kind fun evening. The new vehicles were comfortable and the guide ?? was extremely knowledgeable and enjoyable to be with. The game was exceptional and the wild dogs were a rare treat. The lion ( 4 juvenile males & one sister) fight over Mom's leftover carcass made for some great film and photos. We hope to return in the future.
