The archetypal Okavango game-viewing destination. Raised on decks on a beautiful tree island in the south-east of the Okavango, Chitabe Camp looks out across a Delta floodplain that is transformed during winter from dry rushes to lush oasis, one of only a few distinct habitats in this diverse concession. Back in camp, the thatched dining and lounge area provide beautiful views, while each tent exudes its own personality, aided by superb fine art wildlife photographs. A pool provides cool sanctuary in the heat of the day. Highlights: On this classic safari experience, game drives take in the different habitats - the variety of these ensures that there is an equal diversity of wildlife, including big game such as elephant and buffalo, but also a range of plains game species like wildebeest, tsessebe and lechwe in numbers that support healthy lion, leopard and hyaena numbers, as well as regular visits by wild dog and cheetah. The camp is composed of 8 tents: spacious en-suite Meru-type tents, individually styled; outdoor shower; double vanity basins. Experiences include: day and night game drives • guided walks (on request).

Chitabe Wilderness Lodge is located at the South East edge of the Okavango Delta. As such, in August (the date of our visit) the flood plain is still quite dry. Wildlife is in abundance though and your guides (we had Goodman and Dukes) will try their hardest to deliver the greatest hits. Along the way you will learn about why Leopards lose 80% of their kills and about the diminutive insect that made the whole delta possible! The lodges are comfortable if needing a bit of an upgrade. The service throughout by Joyce and Cleo and the team is also good. The food is OK in comparison to some of the other lodges we have stayed at delivered by Wilderness. A couple of nights is a good time to spend here before moving on to explore other parts of the delta.

I’ve traveled to Botswana over 27 times with my first visit in 1993. I consider Chitabe as one of the best safari camps in Botswana is you are looking for a great all around experience. The staff and guides are all world class. The accommodations are comfortable and the food is excellent. But, the best part of Chitabe in my mind is the quality of the wildlife and the game drives! I will be back again soon. Chitabe is managed by Wilderness Safari’s and they are excellent.

This was my second visit to Chitabe and this occasion was as memorable as the first. The game sightings were plentiful but for me it is as much about the birding and just being in that exquisite environment. I loved the consistent call of the Woodlands Kingfisher at the camp and for a bit of a bird hack, identifying so many new species (with the help of our guide Eebs). The Chitabe team were brilliant at creating special memories - an impromptu meal set up in the bush, sundowner bars and a special performance by the in-house choir. At Chitabe your every every detailed preference or request is not only attended to but welcomed. The camp staff are personal and friendly. It was simply a wonderful time that has left a deeply etched memory for me that will resurface every time I hear that call of the Woodlands Kingfisher.

The most phenomenal couple of days at Chitabe. Friendly and welcoming staff who cater to your every need. We had wonderful breakfasts out in the bush most days with a delicious spread. Sunset drinks and snacks in the bush and/or back from drives were also a highlight. Lodge has the most beautiful setting and the walkway is quite the architectural feature. Wonderful safari / game drives - multiple sightings of leopard (and cub), lion (and cubs) and wild dog and beautiful bird life. Friendly and extremely knowledgeable guide (not to be taken for granted). There is also wifi in the rooms if needed which was helpful. Thanks team for making this a truly memorable experience.

We wanted to have a truly immersive safari experience so spent 5 nights celebrating a special birthday at Chitabe and our expectations were exceeded in every way. Firstly, the diverse habitat on this concession maximizes the opportunity to see the greatest possible variety of wildlife and bird species. The predator sightings were especially outstanding with leopards every day, wild dogs and lions in abundance, and special migratory birds were everywhere, as were my favorite animals elephants. Our safari guide Ebs is one of the best with great communication skills and sense of humor and we enjoyed every minute of our game drives with him. The main lodge is an attractive contemporary African design with several comfortable seating and dining areas overlooking the floodplain for great "Bush TV" viewing. A main feature is the stunning architectural walkway connecting the accommodation tents which are in Classic Safari style. We especially enjoyed the outdoor shower. The food is delicious, creative and healthy and you can work off any extra calorie intake with the workout equipment in your room, at the small gym or swim in the lovely pool... or not! All the staff are wonderful - so attentive and friendly - and they anticipate your every need. Dining highlights were the special birthday song and dance performance with all the staff, the Boma dinner and surprise bush breakfast. We could not have had a better time and are so grateful to the entire Chitabe Team for creating such magic memories for us. Super thanks for everything to everyone at this outstanding safari camp - we can't wait to get back!

Out of many camps, Chitabe Camp (big sister and little sister) tops one of the best camps I have stayed for the guiding, game, lodgings and hospitality. Mamo Jo, Joyce, and Masedi are excellent hosts and managers, and my guides Lesh and Phinley, are top notch guides who make finding once-in a life time sightings look easy. I enjoyed the communal dining atmophere to share the day's experiences with other guests and guides (private dining is also possible.) With thanks to the rest of the staff members who made Chitabe and Chitabe Ledible feel like home and part of the family! Chitabe's icon, the Africa wild dog, is frequently seen here along with researchers in the area studying the dogs. This is definitely a camp that I look forward to returning to in the future!

We stayed at Chitabe for 3 nights in September 2022 and there are no words for how incredible our stay was! This was our first safari and our first trip to Africa, and we have not stopped talking about our stay at Chitabe since we got back; it was truly incredible. The accomodations were fantastic; beautiful rooms and common areas, great food and truly phenomenal staff. This camp had the most incredible wildlife viewings - our first morning, we were awoken early by what we thought was an elephant, but were told that it was a lion who had wandered into camp overnight. The second morning, while we were waiting to be picked up by our guide to leave our tent, there was an elephant literally outside our tent wandering around. These two sightings were just the start of it! The animal sightings while at Chitable were truly remarkable, but what really made it oustanding was the STAFF! Phinley was our guide and he was PHENOMENAL!! He offered to us the first afternoon there that we could skip breakfast at the camp and have it in the bush instead, which got us out early for even more time on the game drives. The second morning we did this, we got to see two male lions roaring out to their pride while the other groups were still at camp having breakfast. Phinley went ABOVE AND BEYOND to make sure we saw everything we could imagine, andd then some and kept us out for 6 hours each morning, which was incredible. The rest of the staff was incredible as well; one of the other groups at camp had mentioned that they only wanted to see a kill, and their guide followed a cheetah for 2 hours to ensure that they saw what they wanted. They all communicated and it seemed like they knew where the animals liked to hang out, because Phinley got us to see everything. We are already talking about going back specifically to Chitabe! We had just an incredible experience at the camp. We loved everything about it, and extra props to Phinley for being a phenomenal guide!!

Everything was 5* plus. The care & friendliness of all the staff was amazing. Our guide Ebs was fantastic & so easy to get on with & his humour was great. The food was fabulous especially as one of us had to have no sugar. The lengths they went to accommodate that was 100%. We will definitely be returning if we can & will request Ebs as our guide. This is our favorite camp, never failing to impress especially since Lediba has recently been renovated. Food and service is always outstanding. The Kgotla {bar-b-que and staff entertainment ) night is one of kind fun evening. The new vehicles were comfortable and the guide ?? was extremely knowledgeable and enjoyable to be with. The game was exceptional and the wild dogs were a rare treat. The lion ( 4 juvenile males & one sister) fight over Mom's leftover carcass made for some great film and photos. We hope to return in the future.
