My partner had never been to Africa and I was returning to Botswana, the land of my birth, after many years away. We were looking for something special and could not have wished for a better venue than Delta Camp. Set in a stunning location by Chief's Island, the camp minimises environmental impact through use of local materials and solar power, while still providing great comfort and service. Safaris are done with a local guide, who will take you out on foot or by mokoro (dugout canoe) allowing you to experience the sights, sounds and smells of the bush, observing the wildlife in a way that is just not possible from a motorised vehicle. In between excursions, the wildlife will come to you, with frequent visitors to the river in front of the camp, which you can observe from the deck with a refreshing beverage in hand. Some even come for a cheeky wander around the camp - don't be surprised to encounter an elephant shaking the fruit from a palm tree! What really makes Delta Camp special are the staff, mainly from the nearby village, who are all exceptional - super-friendly and knowledgeable, they helped make our stay truly memorable.

From the moment our 4 seater plane landed we were enchanted by the Delta. We loved the Mokoro journey to the lodge, being poled around elephants and hippos at a very safe distance. FNB, our guide was very knowledgeable and interesting, sharing information on the area, the animals and the history of the Delta and even answering our questions about his family life. Pony, Naledi, KG, Mis. B and the other staff were wonderful and we considered them our friends. We learned so much about the lives of women living in Botswana, the many differences and yet the many similarities. We felt that we were eating in a 5 star restaurant, by both the service and the food. Sleeping in a chalet open to the wild, with a huge tree growing through the ceiling was so unique and we loved every minute of it. I always wondered if a monkey or leopard would join me in the night but other than a very noisy elephant outside my chalet, I slept alone. We will have wonderful memories of Delta Camp and our friends for ever. Troudy and Sigi

The accommodation is a bit rustic, made entirely of wood with electricity and hot water. However, the landscape is magical; we live in the open nature, with no doors, no windows, just a cabin in the woods. The treehouse is incredible and a beautiful experience. Superb observation platform above the waters. The meals were hearty and delicious. Thank you, Gigi. We were fortunate to be the only guests at this superb place and had an absolutely magical stay thanks to Pony, who made sure we lacked nothing. Here, it's no longer about tracking animals and observing them up close. It's about feeling them, walking in their tracks, and understanding the flora and fauna that inhabit the Delta. We went on magnificent hikes, always very secure thanks to the wisdom of KG and Kaene.

Landing at airport luggage taken & first walk is to camp, on the way we saw elephant & beautiful birds. The camp is set on stilts wih water 180o round. Over next few days we saw elephant grazing in water & the camp, breeding herds of hippos & elephant & so many beautiful bird from room & lodge. The sunsets are magical. The slow pace gliding round the delta in mokoro & on foot with our expert guide KG defies words ... so many animals. Pony & her staff look after each client like they are family. The food was fresh & delicious. There is good selection of alcohol if you indulge. The rooms ... lodges are open air, very comfortable and added experience of seeing animals at close safe quarters as they come through camp at night. A truely magical way to experience the delta. Thank you Pony KG MacDonald & all staff.

This trip was ten years in the making, and it was well worth the wait. Liquid Giraffe organised the trip and although we had not originally planned to stay in the Delta Camp, the Oddballs camp was closed, and the water levels and the heat dictated that we could not camp for four nights in the bush as planned. We were fortunate to be upgraded to Delta Camp which is a beautifully designed lodge with the chalets made out of reeds, structured around tree trunks, each separate from the other so there is solitude and peace. Entirely environmentally friendly, there are no machines, no vehicles, no internet, no appliances, just wonderful peace and the noise of the animals and birds. The elephants wander through the camp; the chalets look out over the channel and impala, giraffe, zebra and buffalo wander into view from time to time. The guides are outstanding and we had most exciting bush walks, seeing wild dogs, lions, hyena, even a leopard and a cheetah. FNB and Raps are top-class guides and we felt completely safe with them, always on foot and never carrying a gun. The chalets were open to the breeze and comfortable even in the heat of the day, and the food was excellent and catered for vegetarian and gluten-free diets.

Delta Camp is a small chunk of the paradise that is the Okavango Delta. The camp is very cleverly perched above the floodplain of the Boro River, with the wood and reed "buildings" distributed in the riverine woodland. It is superbly run and managed by staff who are from the local area, who have deep insight into the ecosystem all around. Be clear that the Okavango Delta is not always full of water, whatever your travel agent or web site may wish to tell you. The flood usually starts in May, and then may be full by July. We were there in April; water was at its lowest level, and there was no chance of Mokoro riding. Instead we did the most amazing guided hikes, early morning and late afternoon, with the most amazing and knowledgeable guide.
Our "chalet" was built around a huge "sausage tree" with bathroom open to the skies. It was "walled", in reed, on three sides only, with the open side again looking out onto the floodplain.
If you want to tick off the "big five" as fast as possible from the relative safety of a landrover, then Delta is not for you - you don't get into a vehicle from beginning to end. If you want to truly feel part of nature, to walk with the animals - great and small - and learn something of their life style, habitat and how to track, then go to Delta.
Oh, and the food is plentiful and excellent!

My husband and I were fortunate to spend 7 nights at Delta Camp in October, and although perhaps not the best time of year to go to the Delta, as the water was very low and it was extremely hot, we had the most amazing time, with wonderful accommodation in the Treehouse - a proper treehouse, 39 steps up into a Jackalberry tree!

Although we could only do short mokoro trips on the Boro River because of the low water level, the upside was that the animals grazed on the dry flood plain right in front of the lodge and one could sit on the deck of the Treehouse or the main lodge deck and watch a passing parade of wildlife! Our guide, MD, took us on wonderful walks where we tracked lion and leopard, saw wild dog, buffalo, elephant, many antelope and beautiful birds.

The staff at Delta were wonderfully hospitable. Pony, the manager of the camp and G, the catering manager and MD, our guide, all went out of their way to make our stay special, including a lovely, romantic, surprise dinner on our last night to celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. A cake, champagne and the singing of beautiful Tswana songs was a thoughtful and special addition to our stay. Thank you all at Delta Camp!

I can't say enough good things about Delta Camp. The setting is exquisite, the "rooms" are charming and, best of all, the staff is just about the cheeriest group of people you will ever meet. I may have the spelling of our main contact wrong, but Maledi (sp??) seems to be responsible for pulling together a highly efficient and engaging staff. The cook is extraordinary, but so are all the camp staff, including the guides who take guests out on mokoros and walking safaris. We found the whole experience surprising and completely satisfying in every way.

This is a relatively isolated safari camp in the southern Okavango Delta. Wildlife - hippos, elephants, occasional crocodile, along with antelope such as red lechwe is abundant. The staff led by Naledi is extremely accommodating and gracious. We enjoyed dining with them. Our guide B.K. was exceptional with his knowledge, tracking skills and easy manner. We thoroughly enjoyed him and he took us on a tour of his nearby village. Naledi invited us to stay in the “Treehouse Cabin” which was thrilling with all of the game nearby and passing under the unit. This was an unusual, unique, and pleasant surprise in our Botswana adventure.

This is an extraordinary experience in every aspect. Staff, food, service, mindset, setting, facilities, activities and hospitality! The rooms/lodges are placed out in the wildness and the animals are walking around the area. With the “open walls” in the room we woke up with giraffes a few meters from us. So was the case during the day with elephants. The interior in the room and lounge area is very atmospheric.
If you can choose - choose Delta Camp.
