Wonderful camp! - great food and accommodation , lovely atmosphere and game drives were fantastic. Wildlife everywhere - elephants right outside our tent. Our guide Mott was so attentive and knowledgeable and we saw all the game we wanted to and much more! Mott is a gem. We’d love to come back one day.

Where to start other than this place is mystical. An eco-friendly, luxury tented camp in the South Delta. You are right in the thick of things. Elephants walk past your tent, there is a Honey Badger that likes to raid the pantry, and lions are known to visit. Lodge Managers Cyrus and Ema are amazing and inspire a team of professionals second to none. While there is no AC, rooms have fans, super comfy beds, and plenty of hot water. This is true bush lux and my kind of “roughing it” Meals are top notch and dinners are served communally. Game drives are outstanding and my Guide Ben goes on my list of all time best! And the sunsets. Quite possibly the most beautiful I’ve ever seen! Botswana is about relaxing, being informal, and taking the moment in, and this lodge delivers! When I left, I felt a true sense of loss. Gomoti Plains has captured my heart and I will return!

Dear gregfY1101AZ Wow! Your review has truly touched our hearts. We are delighted to hear that our eco-friendly luxury tented camp in the South of the Okovango Delta managed to steal your heart and provide you with a magical experience. It's indeed a unique setting where you're immersed in the wild, with elephants casually passing by, a mischievous Honey Badger making pantry visits, and the occasional presence of lions. We are thrilled Cyrus and Ema as well as our team left a positive impression on you. We are so pleased that you came to appreciate our iconic canvas Machaba-style tents which provide eco-luxurious comfort, taking the surroundings and environment into account. We're especially grateful for your kind words about the game drives, and we're proud to have Ben as part of our team. Being on your list of all-time best guides is a testament to his dedication and expertise. As for the sunsets, they are indeed a breathtaking sight, and we're delighted that you found them among the most beautiful you've ever seen. Botswana is all about embracing relaxation, informality, and living in the moment, and we're thrilled that Gomoti Plains allowed you to fully immerse yourself in this experience. Your sense of loss upon departure only makes us more eager to welcome you back in the future. Thank you for choosing Gomoti Plains, and for sharing your wonderful feedback. We look forward to having the privilege of capturing your heart once more on your return visit. Sincerely The Machaba Safaris Team.

I stayed at the Gomoti Plains Camp in November 2022, had a wonderful and amazing time. As a solo traveler they made me feel very comfortable and welcome. My guide (BD) was excellent, expert knowledge and super friendly. The food was amazing, the service top notch, and the tent was fantastic, a very luxurious tent (private bathroom & shower inside + outdoor shower). I would go back in a heartbeat, would love to go back when the flood waters are in season.

Even more so that our welcoming staff made your stay more memorable since you were experiencing the camp as a solo traveler. The Okavango Delta is amazing in all seasons but as you say to see the Delta in flood is something truly remarkable. We hope you will be back to stay at Gomoti Plains Camp when we have a full flood. Thank you for including Gomoti Plains Camp into your Botswana adventure!

We spent 2 nights mid January 2023. This is a stunning camp set in a great location, overlooking grassland ( The water levels are low in January), had Lion roaring both night, Elephant in camp, Kudu, Lechwe, Impala, Giraffe and Warthog in front of our tent. The game viewing was also excellent, 2 pack of Wild Dog, 2 cheetah and plenty plains game. The concession is stunningly beautiful, open plains studded with palm trees, along the Gomoti River which has permanent water. The food was excellent as was the staff. Ponche, the manager, is warm and bubbly, the prefect host, we loved chatting with her. She also goes out and finds game! Nice touches in the room like an ice bucket, replenished with Ice twice daily. Will certainly return, thank you!

This camp was amazing. It was the best of the 4 sites I visited on my trip. The staff was absolutely wonderful. Our family tent was gorgeous and spacious with 3 king size beds, an indoor and outdoor shower and a magnificent viewing area from our large veranda. Carl was our guide and one of the most talented trackers I have ever encountered. Managers Rachel and Innocent were so attentive and helpful. It was my pleasure to have stayed at such a lovely place!

Little Machaba, their sister camp in Botswana, and not far from Gomoti is far superior than this camp. Their animal sightings were very good and their canoe rides but the food and staff were average at best. As most folks who have been to Africa safaris, the camps are resposible for setting your small plane rides to and from. Well, Gomoti scheduled our departure to leave at 7:45AM to another airport where out next flight was at 7PM! When we questioned these arrangments the night before we were to depart, their staff said "we will look at this, just enjoy the afternoon drive"! Next morning, we discovered that another couple, who had a morning connection at the next airport dictated that we had to leave too. "Only flight out", Gomoti camp representive, Rachael said. Not true!!!!!!!!!!! But they felt, we can kick this other couple out on 1 plane (cost savings) and we do not give a sheeetttttttt that they sit at another bush airport for 8hrs.!!! Our travel agent, is also looking into this. Stay away from this property.

Responded 25 Oct 2022
Dear John D Thank you for your review. We are investigating your feedback regarding your experiences of the food and staff while you were at Gomoti Plains. We are pleased though, that the game viewing and mokoro excursions were very good! Our camp managers have commented that you enjoyed all your activities during your stay. Regarding the light aircraft flights, thank you for your feedback, we are concerned that it is believed that the camps are responsible for setting the light aircraft times. Flight times are out of our camp manager’s hands and are set daily by the light aircraft companies who rely on the information they have from the booking agents. In this instance the agent made the flight bookings direct. Our camps are informed of the timings the day before departure. Flight timings are based on many factors including onward flight or transfer times. We have been in touch with the camp managers and the light aircraft company to thoroughly investigate what exactly occurred and why your timings were as you described them. We look forward to receiving feedback from your agent with regards to this matter. We hope that when reflecting on your time in Africa while armed with increased knowledge of inter-camp flights you will withdraw your assessment of Gomoti Plains and return to stay at one of our other Machaba Safaris camps.

We stayed here 3 nights at the end of September 2022. The camp has 10 (or 12?) tents. The tents are very spacious and have electricity, a fan and a bathroom with indoor and outdoor shower. The stay includes all meals, drinks, laundry and “tours” by open fourwheel drive, traditional kano and normal boat. Wildlife can be seen everywhere. Guides and all other staff are professional, very friendly and helpful. Meals are varied and good but given the fact that you have to get up every morning at 05.00-05.30 the timing of the dinner (20.00-20.30) is far too late. Most of the times we returned from the afternoon tour around 18.30 and it is unclear (and for us disturbing) why there is so much delay before dinner is served. Despite this the wildlife experience is worth the hardship. There is (slow)WiFi in the middle of the camp, including part of the restaurant/seating area.

Dear Amsterdam05, Thank you for your valuable review. We have sent your feedback through to the camp managers and will look into this. We are however, very pleased that the wildlife experience overshadowed the break between your afternoon activities and dinner. We trust that the slow WiFi still enabled you to get images and information through to family but also encouraged you to soak up the African bush, WiFi in the Delta can be fickle and we deliberately created one dedicated area to encourage guests to disconnect. Thank you for including Machaba Safaris in your Botswana experience.

Our three days at Gomoti Plains Camp were the most wonderful, exhilarating, and fantastic game viewing experience you could ever imagine. Our Driver, Oracle, was such a wonderful person and a fantastic driver and guide. Our first drive set the tone for the entire time with him. In that five-hour period, we saw more animals than we saw in 10 other game drives at our other camps combined. Five male lions, three of which were eating a recently killed cape buffalo, elephants crossing the delta, herds of buffalo, zebra, and impalas, bushbuck, red lechwe, hippo’s, crocodiles, giraffes, baboons, warthogs, honey badgers and countless bird sightings. Literally every time he mentioned that we should start to drive back to camp, another amazing sighting would appear before us. The camp itself is more rustic style located on the banks of the Gomoti river. Our tent (number 4) was perfectly located looking out over the river. We did not have to leave our tent to experience the wildlife. It was around us 24 hours a day. Food was fantastic and the staff was warm and welcoming, especially Sego (a do it all manager of the camp). We had an unfortunate situation happened upon arrival at the camp that we believe that the management team and the Gomoti ownership should have handled differently, but it did not takeaway from the incredible game viewing experience we had with Oracle. If you want an incredible location game viewing, this is the place.
